    Re: the low-mids on rectos -- run the treble higher and the presence lower. As you turn the treble up, it shifts the mid-scoop lower, and vice-versa.

      I own 2 rectifiers ! 1 dual rectifier multi watt made this year in February and 1 Dual rectifier roadster made in 2011. Anyways on my rectifiers I run the presence @ 130-2 o'clock and the treble lower round 11 to noon and they both have perfect attack, no blanket sound and no high end Fizz! both in vintage mode and both boosted with a Fortin 33( side note i prefer the roadster boosted with my KSR Eros).

    15:54 - That's it. There's a reason the lights went dark, you opened the gates of Mordor with that savage tone

  • @vincelupone
    @vincelupone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    10:30 - this is exactly the epiphany you have to have when playing a recto. I can't tell you how many times I tried one of these amps out as a kid and absolutely hated them, until one day somone hearing me play suggested an overdrive in front. Immediately the amp just comes ALIVE with a good boost out front and you get that iconic Recto tone.

    • @SluggerStark
      @SluggerStark 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      My first "real" amp was a revG dual rec. Playing skate punk/hardcore in the late 90's and early 00's that was THE amp to have. I was definitely not blown away.....I think the Mesa tone in my head was more like a Mark series, which is obviously way different to a rec. Yes....putting a boost up front to tighten it and give it a bit more saturation, plus a eq in the loop to remove some of those low-mids, while keeping lows made it into an absolute beast....but I never really liked the fact I had to do all that to get what I wanted out of it.

    • @belligerentamateur
      @belligerentamateur  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Every Mesa I have played seems to react extremely noticeably to boosts out front, in a good way

    • @Hagstrom4ever
      @Hagstrom4ever 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SluggerStark I had many Rectos, now I'm selling my '92 Mark IV to buy again a 2 channel Dual Recto, for one reason. A Mark will never ever have that grunt and sub lows. Love both but think this way. Marshalls like boost pedals, Rectos need boost pedals, Peaveys and many many others do. So it's not a recto prerogative to be boosted to sound right.

    • @SluggerStark
      @SluggerStark 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Hagstrom4ever Oh I agree that Rectos aren't the only amps that benefit from a boost for hard music. For sure guys have boosted 5150's and jcm 800's for years with good results. I am just saying that for me personally, I didn't like what I had to do with my old recto to get it to do what I wanted. Everyone likes different things. An old bandmate is an old schooler: he likes the huge sub lows and growl from old rectos as well as the unhinged top end and harmonics from older Marshalls. He doesn't view the new Badlander (tighter, less sub lows and lows) as a recto or a Friedman BE100 (reigned in top end, less crazy odd order harmonics) as a Marshall. Yet for me, those are two of my favorite amps. To him they don't have the character of the old amps....to me, I love that I get record ready tone without all the work. Sorry for the ramble. :)

    • @Epochstudios
      @Epochstudios 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SluggerStark I still needed a boost for my Badlander, they just don't get to what I need without it...tone is subjective though and everyone likes different stuff which leads to so many awesome tones and diversity 👏

    Kyle I found the multi watt triple running el34s as the best sounding rectifier. After several over the years this one is a keeper. I use a Friedman Golden Pearl as the secret sauce out front to tighten things up. I found that el34s tend to give the amp just a bit more bite and focus. It is subtle but does make the amp feel better to play, to me any way.

    • @Epochstudios
      @Epochstudios 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I loved my badlander with EL34s( also my EVH 5150III EL34 50watt) I really need to put some in my Dual rectifier roadster and Dual Rectifier Multi watt, I think the EL34s still maintain that low end thump everyone loves but is also more aggressive than 6L6s. Really need to get some EL34S for both amps but it's so expensive these days and EL34s are harder to find for my amps than the 6L6GC. Also my Tech says if you drop the EL34S in you still need to change the fixed bias so you can dial it in.( basically if you get mesa 6L6s you can drop them in any mesa rectifier with no issues with the fixed bias bit for some reason if ya switch to EL34s you have to adjust bias, the switch isn't enough with the fixed bias to drop any ol EL34S in.) Idk though...I'm no tech but highly respect my tech amd trust what he says hahha

  • @HighHunting38

    . Toured with both Dual(ractifier, rack mounted head )and Triple 2 channel. The Triple in my opinion are much cleaner and tighter at volume. The Tube Rectifier tubes (switch in back ) gets rid of a bunch of fizz. You have to change presence and highs settings though. All but low tunings can gain from using the tube rectification settings. Boss SD1 cleans up the amp at high gain settings unless you keep bass at 10pm ish or so if you don’t like using a OD pedal. Love my Marshall’s but the Rectifiers are just as great just sit differently in a mix.

  • @LoreAccurateHusky

    I do believe that turning down the treble gives you more mids because that's how the EQ is designed, says so in the manual. Though I've never tried completely roll off the treble, I need to try that. The mid knob also acts kind of funky and doesn't act like a normal "make mids loud or quiet". The more you turn it up the brighter and stiffer your mids are, down makes them fatter and darker.
    The other thing I've noticed is that the Orange and Red channels are voiced slightly different. The orange channel is a little more mid focused and fatter when you set both the orange and red channels the same.
    One interesting tactic is to set the Red channel to Vintage and the Orange to Modern to get a good balance for each channel.
    Though most of this info is for the multi-watt so results may vary for the "solo" heads

    Rectifiers have came stock with a host of different tubes over the years. That alone is about half of why you find them to sound so different from one another. They've used 420(coke bottles and straights), 425, 430, 440, and now str-445. Use the latter for the 3-channel models IMO. Preamp tubes have also been various. Doug's tubes sell a very nice high-gain preamp set that will thicken it a bit compared to running all mesa jjs. Just using aTung-sol or Mullard in v1 and/or v2 helps too.

    From the moment you tuned down the guitar, engaged the boost pedal, the amp came more alive (I really liked without the boost already). This amp is better for lower tunings.
    The Rectifiers are supposed to be THE nu-metal amp. However a lot of HC bands like Comeback Kid, This is Hell, ... use the Recto, and it is perfect for fast / speed riffs as well. For me it stays the ultimate metal amp. And if you choose a decent cabinet, it's so obvious that you can make a good old JCM 800 sound close as a twin to the Recto. Or make the Recto sound as a JCM 800.

    Sweet amp when you push the master up. Really moves some air with all that head room. I always preferred it in solid state rectifier mode and modern mode with the mids cranked and the bass rolled off. You only get those low mids once the master is at an uncomfortable level.

    Also Mesa originally made these to compete against the modded JCM800’s of the late 80’s early 90’s from what they told me directly. Also preamp section is borrowed from the SLO 100 but poweramp section is very different. Mesa screwed up the Triple Rec when they went to the 3 Channel but later fixed it.
