  • Young climate leaders, including Greta Thunberg, Vanessa Nakate, Malala Yousafzai, Tori Tsui, Viviam Villafaña, Daphne Frias, Mya-Rose Craig, Dominique Palmer and Emma Watson, gathered from around the globe for a surprise session at The New York Times Climate Hub. In this session, guest hosted by Ms. Watson, the speakers discussed the need for collective, coalition-led leadership to accomplish the intersectional thinking that the climate challenge requires.

Emma watson is truly one of a kind...
Thank you for bringing light to this situation. It doesn't matter that you worked hard enough to have the life you have, what matters is that you speak time and Time again about issues that we all struggle with and take action against them. You are my inspiration. THANK YOU.

As this video comes to an end and you scroll down to read the the comment section, I implore you not only to indulge in the feeling of being inspired, but also in the words they actually speak. As mentioned by some of the activists, these conferences can be seen and heard but often forgotten soon after. If you felt inspired by this, if you felt defended and your beliefs advocated by this, that is because they are speaking so that those of us with far less influence can also be heard and that is a truly honorable thing. If you didn't feel inspired that's ok, they are standing up for your human right to a comfortable and manageable climate as well. One thing we can all be sure of is that taking ACTION on these words together gives us all more hope and that hope will dismiss our fear of uncertainty as we make progress as a diverse and unified whole.

Maya was nice to listen to and I enjoyed her. I also liked how they emphasized how we need to work together more instead putting so much pressure on individuals. I believe in a lot of the things that the others were saying too, but they can come across a little condescending and loaded. I’m not surprised this vid only has 67K views b/c the audience watching this probably is already on board and taking steps, it’s the people that aren’t watching this that are causing problems and we need to learn how to reach them in a way that is inviting and caring. Some of the people causing problems are unaware of their wrongdoings in some ways and it can be a little combative to see a bunch of people banned together out of the blue to talk about how they’re like, evil. It might create the opposite effect of what these women are after and create more divide amongst people. We need to focus on working towards the ultimate goal of climate change in a way that’s inclusive as well to the ones that are causing the problems

I think, counterintuitively, it is not a large number of people but a single person that can and would make the difference. I mean a real champion who can rally the world to the cause. The type that can spawn a revolution. And it's just dumb luck, if in this critical point in time that person steps forward or doesn't. I have not seen them yet. You will know it when you see them, I think.

If I could add any one thing it would be that if anyone wants to bring about true change in, any of the topics they touch on, they better be ready to roll up their sleeves to make it happen. It will be very worth it but let’s not kid ourselves that it won’t be very hard. Change is not truly change if it doesn’t arrive with sore feet and calloused hands.

The people who could truly save the planet, won’t.
We can talk all we want. Hold meetings. But. The world hasn’t changed for the better. The leaders aren’t doing what they promised.
The every day people who have no money, can’t change the world. It needs to be leaders and rich people. Not us.
    And they won’t.
So. The world will burn. We can’t stop it.

In the same manner we all gotta do our bit.

The actual tanks themselves. NOT the everyday man living on earth buying a plastic spoons for his ice cream. And until the gigantic illegal tanks stop illegally fishing you can try all you want but it’s not your fault. It’s them. The big big big guys. Sitting on all the worlds money. Us? We can’t do much. It’s the entire world. It’s out of control with the weather. Like these ladies say, it’s the leaders that need to step up and do their part and until they do. WHAT do you expect you and your neighbor to be able to do :) ….
I understand it’s a hard subject. We don’t want to look in the face that we can’t change this. But people are so selfish. The people who needed to watch this talk, are not the ones watching. 😂 the people who need to step up are the ones who aren’t doing it.
