I think Hobonichi is always a little kitsch and I love that they always GO THERE. I totally don't like the orange and yellow normally, but I like it cuz Hobonichi did it and the way they did it. I am totally in love with the pamphlet this year! I love the Techo-man. It didn't occur to me that it looked creepy or scary but a lot of people seem to think so.
It seems like Techo-man is polarizing - you either love him or hate him! I feel like he could be in a scary movie, and I don't watch scary movies! I agree about Hobonichi's design. They offer "cutesy" in a grown-up way, which I appreciate. It seems like in the US, if you want something kitsch, you basically have to go with children's things, because the grown-up things are so GROWN-UP. Does that make sense? But Japan loves their cute characters and fun patterns, and I love that!

I'm excited to try the Sterling Ink Daily A5 for my journal. But I still love my Weeks, mostly because of the cute covers! If I love my Sterling Ink journal this year, maybe I'll try the Weeks size next year. What do you like about Sterling Ink?

The edging on that elephant cover is called piping and you’re right it is rare to see piping anymore on covers or other items so many times now it’s just sewn to the edge instead of having piping added
YES! Piping is what the website says. I couldn't think of that. Though I usually think of piping as the little rounded "pipes" on the seams of things, not so much on the outside edges. This is more like bias tape, right? Maybe both - you can use bias tape to make piping?
I didn't order anything hobonichi but I've been watching a few of my favorite content creators do their unboxings. You're the first one to show the plaid zip drawers. It definitely makes things more fun and organized. You got alot of colorful items. I was thinking to get a pencilboard or two to add more color to my TN and other notebooks. It was really interesting to see the pricing difference. No one has done that and I was defintely very curious about that. It does make a big difference.

I had a further snag with cancelling the order that I tried with a local retailer - I phoned after not hearing from them in a few days and found out that the owner was on a European vacation! I did not know about the price change, so thanks for the interesting information!
Yes! It’s still worth it, unless your priority is supporting a local retailer. You get the nice box and the freebies, and you save at least a little - sometimes a lot!

I really wanted the rainbow small drawer pouch( surprisingly- I feel like they’re the most useful size for me), but I held out ordering until they restocked a few items I really wanted and was stuck with the new prices… Even with removing the pouch, all notebooks (2), and a pencil board my order was $57 more than if I had been able to order on launch day. So depressing. I made the same type of chart you did with an area for the percent increase and it was really uneven. The whole thing was really confusing. I really hope I forget about it when I get my package. In the mean time- it’s so much fun to watch everyone open everything.

Lovely haul 🩷 I have the A6 cover. Where did it say not to use a coc please? I've put mine in one, but i could not see on the Hobonichi site where it said not to? Also I think the pen goes with the sushi bow tie design? Last years went well with the cats bow tie.
Thank you! I'm not sure if the website says not to use a CoC, I just wondered if it did. I have had a couple of screen-printed covers before that said because of the way the design was fused to the fabric, it wasn't recommended to use a CoC, because the design could stick to it and peel off. I'm not sure this is the same, I just wondered, since the design inside the cover isn't printed into the fabric, it's sort of bonded to the outside of the fabric. Does that make sense? So you're probably fine - I will likely use a CoC and just try not to leave it in a hot car for an extended period of time!

It depends on your usage - the Emotional Reunion (pink elephant) cover is too big to use a clear cover on cover. So if that's important to you, definitely go with the Yumi Kitagishi cover. If you don't use a cover on cover, I think the Yumi one is super fun!

lol, that's fair! I would honestly go for the Yumi covers even if they weren't popular - I like to call my style "kindergarten chic," haha. I love sweet illustrations and cute animals, and somehow these feel like they are modern but also have a vintage flair. I collect vintage mini ceramic animals and vintage animal planters, so these covers fit right in at my house! I am excited to use the plastic pouches. I haven't started using everything yet, but I will soon!

It just hit me that the girl on the elephant cover is embracing the pink elephant in the room. I don't know if a "pink elephant in the room" has the same meaning in Japan as it does in America. But, here that suggests embracing the thing that affects things but no one wants to discuss or even acknowledge. The girl on the cover is embracing/welcoming/acknowledging that thing. Am I overthinking it? 😂

Kariya-san the elephant has reunited with a young girl and is holding her tightly. This single image expresses a very heartfelt story." So, I don't know what she may have meant! I just think it's precious!
