I fully understand why everybody is upset, but you cannot be upset at the judge. Everybody should be upset with the district attorney who failed miserably and did not charge the right crime.

Poisoning someone is absolutely attempted murder if the end result could have resulted in the victims death. She wasn’t trying to make him sick. She had every intent in putting him in a casket. She just didn’t complete the action.

It SHOULDVE BEEN ATTEMPTED MURDER, but the DA who charges crimes was legally only able to give her the poisoning charge which only hold a max 5 yr sentence. No one said it’s fair, but it’s American law. Deal with it and don’t marry a person you can’t trust because they may try to kill you and only get a five year sentence. lol I’m not sure what you want me to say I didn’t make the laws. This isn’t my fault. I’m just letting you know why it happened like it did. I guess this is your first introduction into how convoluted the American legal system is.

      If you listen to it again the judge said the prosecutor recommended a suspended sentence and the majority of the time that means you’ll get that. But the judge denied that and gave her the max. I’d call that a surprise.

      The state cut deal because that's what they could prove. The fines are just part of the sentence. The judge didn't write the laws. Prison is a bad place, and five years is long long time. Imagine spending the last five years in a state prison. For a 50 year old, that's 10% of their life. That's a long time.

      He did not die. She was not charged BY THE DA with attempted murder because it would have been difficult to prove the charge. The judge does not decide what the defendant is charged with. Why is that so difficult for people to understand?

    I had to replay the video to ensure I had heard right the first time when the judge mentioned concern for her family, including CURRENT HUSBAND. I haven't followed this case enough to know whether or not he was supporting her as being innocent - if he views her as anything other than extremely dangerous, he really needs to wake up. Hearing she was only sentenced to 5 years spiked my blood pressure a bit. Somehow I don't believe any of those mandated prison programs/courses are going to touch the evil behind the crime. All the best to her husband (the intended target, first one - she may have wanted to perfect her skills on the next guy in due course).

      Iowa maximum sentence for her crime she pled to is 5 years. That is the MAXIMUM sentence allowed. This is why it is important who we vote in our state legislature.

      She sentenced her to the maximum available to the court. Go back and listen when she covers the minimum and maximum. 5 years was the longest she could sentence her. This is an issue of who you vote in for your state. Sentencing guidelines are a state issue.

      The judge gave the maximum possible under the plea deal the prosecutors offered. The prosecutors asked her to give only probation, NO time. In this case the fault wasn't with the judge.

    The person who wrote the description for this video should check their information prior to publishing. They have the sentence down as eleven years when it was only five. Five is too little for attempting to disable or possibly murder her husband. Testament to her character so no wonder he told her wanted a divorce.

    Really, defer judgment is saying that it’s not that serious. But she tried to poison and l believe probably to kill her husband. She been found guilty and she should be punished for her crime. I don’t believe she has any mercy on her husband.

    At one time back in 2010, my husband threatened to put those eyedrop’s in my drink. Then I got severely ill and the ambulance had to be called and I told the ambulance workers that my husband said he was going to put eyedrop in my drink, and they never did anything to him. Spent five days in the hospital on NPO.😎 may he RIP

    It’s disgusting to hear the defense ask for deferred adjudication which would mean probation and when done the charges come off the record. If she tried to poison her spouse then she should go to prison. Same goes to anyone else who does that.

      The State requested that the sentence be suspended and she be given probation. This would have been part of the plea deal, but the judge isn't obligated to actually do it.
