State investigates unfair practices at mobile home park

- CBS News Colorado investigator Kati Weis gives the full break down on why the state is investigating after unfair practices were reported inside a mobile home park.
This is happening in North Idaho as well. The land is what they're after.
The Private Equity companies know that the residents of their communities have no other place to go. Unlike apartments where all people own are their possessions, the resident of a MFG home community own their homes but rent the lot. Some have mortgages on their homes others own their homes outright, but most cannot be moved either because there are no places to put them, or it damages the home sometimes beyond repair.
The Private Equity firms basically use manufactured housing communities kind of like a tax free money printing machine. They purchase a park, raise the rents and get the property appraised taking the higher rent into consideration, then borrow that equity out of the park tax free. Then they cut costs to the bone because as long as they can raise the rent, they can borrow more tax free money, and the residents have no choice but pay the higher amount or abandon their homes. There are more pieces to this, but essentially it comes down to a community of people that are paying to live on the private equity firm's estate.
It is Always about the money. Always, unfortunately. Mobile home parks are like dynamite ready to go off eventually. Residents beware. Just saying. God bless us all. Cheers !!
I blame hoa taking away HOMES, our American Dream! Bad Greedy abusive rules of hoa which should not have such power to take away our Sacred Homes!

Moble home parks are a rip off

Go to a cheaper trailer park that treats you better. Your home is a trailer. It moves.
Moving sounds simple. It's a mobile home, after all. But it's not that simple. First, you need to find a community with open space that will allow your home. Many communities have age or size restrictions. The other constraint is the cost. I had to move my double-wide in 2006 because the community was being developed for site built homes. The cost to move my home 6 miles was $10,000. I can't imagine what it would be now.
@@neeterb5584 I didn't call it simple, but it is a solution. And 10k (let's call it 15k with inflation) to move vs. $3800/mo for restrictive rules and 2500 sq ft of dirt? Hey, one of life's choices. Other trailer parks in less fashionable towns are under 1k.
@@CucumberflavoredmustardI understand what you are saying, and it would be great if that's the way things worked, but Its really not a solution for most folks. Some people have lived in these communities for generations. Even if they wanted to move the home. It has been on those blocks for 50 -60 years. Some have attached garages, they have build porches decks, permanent awnings. If they were moved there would be nothing left. If only life were black and white it would be so simple. One or the other. But life is every color and shade. Its the nuances in those tiny shades of empathy that reveal our humanity.
Not everyone has that kind of money to do so. I can't afford to move. I'm terminally ill and I only get 1300.00 a month and Rent is about 800. Doesn't include gas, electric or water. If I had 10,000 I would use it as a down payment on a home. But because of the people migrating here housing has tripled. I can only hope that death comes soon.
