    The whole world must see your video. As a filipino living in thailand (obviously we know a lot of tourist come to thailand) i asked myself why the Philippines isn't as popular as thailand when in fact, i think... Our country is amazing.. Specially the islands.. And i asked some foreign friends why they don't consider visiting Philippines... All of them told me "IT'S NOT SAFE" and they got this perception by how the news perceive the philippines. The whole world must see your video specially this one. It is very nice to watch and know that u appreciate our country and overlooked the physical appearance of some areas which most people perceive as dangerous place. Thank you for visiting our beloved country. 😊

      Nah,Thats not the real reason. PH is geographically isolated country, it surrounded by bodies of water and the only way to visit PH is via Airplane. So for that reason, limited foreigners can visit and instead they visit Thailand where they can conveniently visit other countries such us Malaysiain the South,Myanmar in North,Vietnam in the East and eeven China using car or train.

    • @AFPMPU
      @AFPMPU 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ryanrhea1 I 100% agree. Thailand is landlocked with China, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore Vietnam and Malaysia. It makes sense from an expense standpoint for a Chinese and ASEAN tourist to consider visiting Thailand first than the Philippines. In 2019, the no. of Chinese tourist who visited Thailand is around 11 million add to that number almost 10 million from the ASEAN region. Philippines recorded 8.9 million international tourist arrivals overall from all nationalities with the Chinese only comprising around 1.7 million and insignificant number of tourists coming from the ASEAN region. Our archepelagic location is not doing us any favors from an ease of access to tourists standpoint.

    • @ryanrhea1
      @ryanrhea1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@AFPMPU Well said. I did not know the tourists arrival figures until I read it.For small land area, PH is the 11th populous country in the world next to Mexico. I think it's ok for now on low international tourists arrival in that way it can preserve the nature. Look at Boracay beach,its crowded during holy week. I hope PH has to stop the growing population.

      Why do you go to Manila so often Mr Dawson?

    • @aisumelef211
      @aisumelef211 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My schedule is tight so, in 2017 and 2019, it was back to back with events and activities, meeting family and friends. I had more time in 2010 but, I got sick. My mother burned the garbage outside. It made me sick. By the time I returned to Toronto, I was still coughing. I didn't have a lot of money since I lost my job in 2009. So, I stayed put in the province in my eldest sister's house after attending our youngest sister's wedding in Manila.
      It was good timing, too. My brother-in-law got the travel tax exemption for me in Manila when he went there to get it for his family. My eldest sister's eye surgery took place in Manila then, they stayed overnight in a hotel before returning to Batangas City. It was her doctor's order to not travel immediately following the eye surgery. They rented a van to return so, the following day, I was dropped off at the airport for my flight. The driver of the van stayed with us overnight so, he returned to Manila the next day after dropping me off at the airport. My other sister who lived in Karuhatan, tagged along together with another sister and my mother. I miss those days when it was possible to be with my family. That was the last time we had gathered together minus my husband who was in Toronto.

    Yes Manila can be very intimidating visually but once you interact with the people you realize majority of them are great people. Been there twice my self and was an eye opening experience especially the poverty but it shows you dont need money to be happy!
    I too was warned by people people who live in Manila that they will snatch your cell phone from your hand, but it never happened to me. In fact, when I rode a tricycle my phone fell out of my pocket but the driver told me hey you left your phone!

      It's good kids are out in the streets playing like how it was in the old days in many parts of the country, not anymore in some upper middle class areas. In the rich parts it's always been western style where kids avoid being outside. You'd think those kids don't have devices, true, but not completely so because it is required in higher grade school. That kid-bonding or being social (NOT IN MEDIA) is a real treasure. Also, we normally label people or nations based on how they've been known as, generally. Thanks and no Thanks TH-cam because both the rich and unsightly or negative and positive aspects of any country like the Philippines are all exposed, rich America's Philadelphia included.

    One thing about us Filipinos, that many may not know, is that the more you interact with us, the more welcoming and friendlier we become. So, if you are a tourist in Philippines, be open and engaging with the locals. Doing so will really make your visit more enjoyable. Not only that, but if you ever find yourself in a bind and need help, they will be more than willing to give you a hand. Having said that, you still should be wary of your surroundings. And this applies wherever you go, not just in Philippines.

    I've lived my whole life in the Philippines and I never really knew people even had this view about Manila until like some few years ago. When I was still in school (in Quezon City), classes would always end 9:00 P.M and I would most of the time walk kilometers (often times w/o streetlights in the roads) to get to destinations (because I was trying to save money by not taking transportation), and I have never been attacked, kidnapped, stabbed, robbed or anything, and I was a vulnerable student. My mom, who used to work in Makati, would also always walk long distances at night and she has also never been attacked or anything. Literally any place in the world can be dangerous, no country is spared of criminals and evil deeds, you really just have to be mindful.

    I feel more at ease in the Philippines than here in Toronto. I've felt stalked on two occasions in downtown during the day. That's never happened to me before in the Philippines. Around 1997 or 1998, I was supposed to hitch a ride back to Batangas City with my aunt (mother's first cousin) who was picking up my uncle at the airport. I missed them. I even went to the office of the airline and saw the manifesto that my uncle had landed. I walked underneath the bridge where squatters lived. I was able to contact my aunt (mother's sister-in-law) who lived in Parañaque and ask her to put me up for the night. I shared a taxi ride with a youth who got off ahead of me. That was the first time I had shared a taxi ride. I was crying and upset. The taxi driver made sure that I was safely inside the house before driving off. It was two o'clock in the morning when I reached my aunt's house. She was waiting for me outside the door. I never felt unsafe during this event.
    On the other hand, I am more wary walking along the sidewalk in Toronto. When I first arrived in Canada, I read of how a drunk driver of a pickup truck had hit a couple who were strolling down the sidewalk with their baby. I was shocked that they were killed and their baby made an instant orphan. That's why I'm wary here compared to the Philippines. Another incident in broad daylight in 2018 killed people wherein a van deliberately hit them along Yonge Street north of Toronto. My wariness is justified as this driver wasn't even drunk but, crazy.

    I hate to use the term "swag" but Filipinos have a type of swag / personality that is different from people in other Asian countries. Even just going from Vietnam to the Philippines or Malaysia to the Philippines, you'll notice a big difference in the overall personality of the people. It's overall a good thing IMO, but it can make some Westerners feel like they're in a dangerous area when they're really not because they're not used to Asians who are not so shy/meek

    We do tend to be wary of "slums" area because of the impression we initially have. And tho I wouldn't outright debunk it, but our slums here in the Philippines are relatively safer than in other country. Because it's normally just a condition of living, but Filipinos who live there is just as friendly and kind as Filipinos who live elsewhere. Sure they may be sometimes "rougher" in words, but normal Filipinos all share this "living harmoniously" mantra with others. Unless they're outright crooked, ppl here will befriend you out of good intentions and will be vocal about it. We have this habit of inclusivity.

Thank you for posting this. I kinda miss it sometimes but being in my mid 30s, I'm not into busy cities anymore. Even so, one of these days I'll be visiting again :)

      Brazil is scary, you cannot be walking alone specially with all those gadgets. They don't give a F***k they will take your camera, your watch, your phone, headphones, whatever you have on in public. And people don't help because you're a foreigner. I know because of Brazilian friend. He does not want to bring his family from US to Brazil to visit as Tourists.---too dangerous. Some parts of Europe, beware. I know a guy who went to Europe by himself they robbed him of all his belongings like his luggage and beat him up at the train Station. After he went to the hospital, he just flew back home to US, he did not feel safe traveling alone.

    In my opinion the best way to have a good time in ph is to be friendly and share positive vibes. People know when you act like you are above them but when you interact with no hesitation and just be nice and kind it'll be received well. No place is perfect and crime does exist everywhere just be mindful of your surroundings and you'll definitely enjoy travelling around. 😁

    I personally when I went to the Philippines, I enjoyed this kind of people more on the streets and the institutions where I studied rather than the rich Filipinos, for me they're a bit assholes to be quite honest, not all, but some are.
    But I just keep the good things, however I tell this because of this misconception that Filipinos are just happy and friendly, they sure are, I had the opportunity to know more deeply as the experiences of teachers, some of mine, some of the people, and so on. Maybe I am the one who should have to do a video about it. No problems with this video, but indeed it's good to know all sides of coins, be conscious and keep the good stuff and chill

    Just came across your vlog. Glad to see you have a pleasant experience in the Philippines. In any place around the world, just always practice common sense precautions. Even me, who also grew up in the Philippines, I have learned to be protective of myself when I was still studying in Manila.
    I go back home to Manila depending on family needs or if there is time for a good vacation. And always, it will be my homeland. Of course there will be always petty crimes here and there, but compared to the US right now, it is way too dangerous here in the US, sadly.
    So enjoy your stay and just be mindful as you go around. People are always generally hospitable. As long as you remain respectful of the people and the culture you will be treated cordially. Just be always mindful and sensible when going around.

Actually, almost all Filipinos were all fluent in English because they are educated. Filipinos respect you ad cheer you up and even give you a beer. Since Filipinos work hard in the provinces when they are back to Manila, they just love Msnila and each neighborhood. Filipinos love cooking like putting a small store and keep busy to have small income.

    Manila is a region that consists of 16 Major Cities like Makati, Taguig, Quezon City, Marikina, Pasig City, Mandaluyong, Muntinlupa, and The City of Manila.
    The City of Manila is in Manila. Now Manila is also called Metro Manila.
    During Spanish and American Colonial times there 2 provinces of Manila were omitted, it is San Mateo and Montalban.
    There are many places were so beautiful, clean, and modern.

    Concerns about safety anywhere a traveler would go to is a natural tendency. in fact, the more you tend to let your guards down no matter the country when you travel, the more you are prone to vulnerability. In here, generally, are hospitable, charming and eagerly friendly people as we tend to naturally carry on to make foreigners truly learn differently from the tainted news about our country and honestly show them who we really are - as simple, fun-loving, family-oriented, competitive and resilient people.

    Yes, it is dangerous in a way that some people will take advantage of you like overpriced pedicab rides, taxi fare, and other government related transactions. I study in a college located in Intramuros Manila and I don't personally recommend to anyone not to ride pedicabs there as they ask too expensive fees. If you will be there, it is better to ride the e-jeep instead of pedicab. I saw a lot of foreigners before being victimized by some of these pedicab drivers. Even I was victimized by it. So be careful and better ask people with their families because they can give you the right tips or directions.

      Then be specific, it's not killing. Its scamming.. I studied in Intramuros too and yes you're right abt even locals these pedicab drivers will try to rip you off but its not dangerous as killings. Scammers are everywhere and when you're travelling its no brainer not to be cautious.

    • @sitandchill2897
      @sitandchill2897 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      you consider scamming in tricycles as 'dangerous'? learn the meaning of danger. iraq is dangerous, ukraine is dangerous, manila is not dangerous. scamming even exists in london and new york.. petty scamming is annoying and irritating, its not dangerous. recognize the blessings you have by being in a peaceful, relatively safe place. doesnt matter if its not rich, at least we're not in a war zone or place where stabbings of strangers are common...

    • @paulnicolaparua300
      @paulnicolaparua300 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@amristar736 Haha! You will never know when you didn't study or live in that place for a long time. I'm just warning him so that he won't be victimized. Intramuros is a nice place but there are illegal settlers living inside. It's better to tell the tourists all these bad sides so that they can still enjoy their stay in the Philippines.

    • @paulnicolaparua300
      @paulnicolaparua300 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@eliolovesgaymovies1117 I highly doubt if you'd really studied in Intramuros. Maybe you could afford to pay them for a price of 80 pesos just riding from LRT central station to Intramuros. When I was freshman, I was unaware that the real pedicab fee was only 40 pesos and yet I was asked to pay 80 pesos. After learning these things, I still tried to test if there are still honest among them, but unfortunately, 90% of them don't ask the right price. So if you are aware of this, I would just choose to walk instead of riding the pedicabs. It's better to tell the tourists these negative sides instead of sugarcoating the realities in the area.
