Such a huge talent, it's interesting that she uses matched grip and a double bass setup, a bit unusual for jazz drummers. Although there is a decent age gap and significant style differences, I'm a fan of young rock and roll drummer Yoyoko (10 years old) I'll bet she looks up to Miss Kawaguchi as one of her drumming role models. There's a tremendous amount of talented young Asian female drummers from the East, maybe it's something in the water.
the reason she uses match grip and double bass is mostly due to her teacher kozo suganuma, who is also mostly a match grip user and loves wacky double bass and foot techniques, a lot of her style came from him too

I understand that the traditional grip exists because of marching snare drums, and the way the drum tilts when you play a marching snare dating back all the way to the beginning of the practice. It's the only way you can accurately play it when you're marching, matched grip would not work so that technique still exists today stemming from the original marching drum. I thought that was pretty cool if true, it certainly makes sense. Sometimes you'll see older Jazz trap drummers tilt their snare as if it were a marching drum cause it lends itself to the traditional grip. Sitting down at a drum kit today the snare doesn't have to be tilted so a matched grip works well, it would be extremely difficult to play using a matched grip if you were in a marching band cause of the tilt of the snare as you march. I assume all that is true, no reason not to doubt that origin story. I'm a matched grip guy that started out in school being taught the traditional grip so I can play that way but much prefer matched grip playing. Cheers.
