I would describe this video as:
A class in photographic arts given by a master artist.
These are incredible packed with editing tips. It really outlines that 50% of landscape photography are done in field of collecting the information. The last 50% are done in post processing for “selling” the vision. Excellent stuff - please do more of your editing videos. It is so good!! 🤩

Thanks for the review of all the images Nick. There was certainly a lot of points that will be of value in the future. Mine was the Namibia balloon image. I re-processed it again for about the 10th time to try and get the colours better. I think I achieved that. As for the crop, although I agree that a little bit chopped off is bad I wasn't convinced for this shot. As I needed to straighten the horizon a little I did have a little more in the corner although still some shadow cutoff. I then made 2 variants, one with the suggested crop and lived with them for a couple of days. Upon reflection I will go with the crop even though it changes the story slightly by making the balloon more prominent. So thank you very much for the time and effort that you went to, it is very much appreciated to get this type of feedback.
Looking forward to the next one.

Hey Nick, Thanks for you "words of wisdom" towards my image (3:05) of the green waters of the Athabasca River near Jasper, Alberta.
I do very little editing of my images but this one I will agree was possibly a little "over sharpened".
I also agree on your thoughts on the shutter speed changing the water but I have had creative problems before in similar situations with the floating ice in the calm water in the middle of the frame.
The slow shutter speed causes the moving ice to blur out any reflections and the subtle reflections are what I was trying maintain for this shot.
Also.... I had a shutter speed of 125 to account for the fact that this is hand held and I didn't want any camera movement.
(I know, I know.........Always pack a tripod!!)
Ultimately the reason I took the image was the emerald green of the glacier water.......Always epic!!

Great video Nick! I completely agree with your advice that the milky way should not be the primary subject and that it needs foreground. I believe the reason this happens often is because the milky way is so difficult to capture. It needs to be the right season, no clouds, new moon, no light pollution, etc. A beginner would think their photos are great simply because they actually captured it! They might have tried 10 times before they actually got it and they believe that successfully seeing the milky way = a successful picture.
I think this advice can go one level deeper because this is common with photos that are difficult to get. The sensation of capturing a rare photo overtakes the fact that there might be a better way to compose the image. In wildlife photography someone may get excited because they just so happen to see a bear in the woods and they just so happen to have a telephoto lens with them. Taking a picture of a bear may be a moment of a lifetime for them! In photography though, a regular photo of a bear isn't necessarily special. What makes it special is if he is climbing a tree, or growling, or catching a fish. The advice that I would give is, after you've researched how to put yourself in the right situation to be able to take a rare photograph, don't forget to also research what can take that rare photograph from regular to special.

It would seem that you and Steve Arnold (a British photographer based out of Australia) feel the same way about night shots/milky way shots and the foreground.
the shot at 12.30 is next to a busy road in the Dolomites. The half-lit trees may be from a passing car`s headlight

As you use a Wacom tablet, I have a question for you : I have an Intuos Pro M which I can configure for Lightroom (mine is LR 6.14 running under Windows 10), but then, when trying to use it with LR it seems that the tablet does not recognize that LR is on and running. ExpressKeys - for example - are always reacting as for all/other apps running ! No way to have it react as programmed for LR !!! Could you help ? Thanks in advance.

Hey Nick, awesome insight as always, thanks for posting these vids. You paid mention to 'clicking down' the shutter speed and compensating by 'clicking up' the aperture etc. Is there a video where this operation is elaborated on? If you, or anyone else reading this for that matter, could point me in the right direction I'd be eternally grateful. Cheers in advance. Dan
I feel like i have talked about it in my in the field videos somewhere.. but essentially, its "counting the clicks." if you speed up your shutterspeed by three clicks.. (1 stop) you need to compensate with three clicks of either iso or aperture, or a combo of the two. It sounds more confusing that it is... perhaps I need to make a video on it

When you critique pictures, which is fine, but it would be very helpful if you show the changes you are talking about. Difficult to take your opinion without proof!
You need to watch longer then because I do show the changes
than why you saying it if its not facts? lol
