It's hard to understand how a person that gives that much knowledge for free in such a nice way, doesn't have a million subscribers... Thank you for the great content man!
Probably because he doesn't put a vid out once or twice a week like others just to put out a vid for views. It seems to me he rather put out a higher quality/content vid. Or, quality content over quantity. Hope I said that correctly.
@@thomastuorto9929 Thats pretty much exactly it. Some people strive to be full time TH-camrs... I just put out content when i am inspired to do so.. and I try to make those videos something I am actually proud of. There are a lot of people out there that do it just because they have a squarespace ad contract to uphold.
Watched a lot of tutorials over the years and a lot of blending tutorials. Yours (this video and several others I have watched from you) is by far the best ones. Because you walk that fine line between being thorough and advanced, yet somehow managing to make a 5 year old understand each and every step of the way, without becoming a 3 h tutorial.
This is EXACTLY what I needed to have to help me learn my way around editing my astrophotography stuff. I've struggled so much with blending and editing. Cheers nick 👍
How can I give this video extra thumbs up to counterbalance the three unscrupulous people that gave it a thumbs down? Seriously Nick - this is awesome information! Thank you!
I was spending hours with precision masking never thought of use blending modes and selection techniques. Thank you so much this what exactly i needed to improve my work flow. Cheers from India.
I never get tired of these processing videos. I attended your boot camp with Greg Benz and have consumed endless tutorials, but I feel like I forget more techniques than I remember, particularly when weeks or months pass between editing sessions. Always great to be reminded of the best processes and to pick up a few tips (sky selection). It makes me more confident editing and helps speed up the process when I am not casting about trying to remember how to do something.
I hear you, I get rusty myself when it’s been a while and I go through slump swear I feel like I don’t process anything worth a crap… Just like any creative thing it ebbs and flows, and then when you combine it with how technically can be it’s easy to forget tools and techniques
Thanks for a really great video on your processing techniques. Love your channel and hope you’ll be doing more videos more often. Your Astro photography is very inspiring.
I dont care why they do it, I just like it. Thanks to all you guys that take your time and learn out tips and tricks to neewbies like myself :-) Hats of for you all
Nick, great video; thanks so much for the post-processing tutorial to add to the earlier video of your workflow in the field. You manage to put across potentially complicated concepts is such an accessible, understandable manner. You're a star, man!
Superb as always Nick! I tend to use your techniques in post-processing. Still, having watched your tutorial over and over, I learn something every time. This was no exception. Lots of great tips and insights!! Thanks much.
Wow, outstanding tutorial, thank you so much for your time and sharing this knowledge. Several great tips included such as using 100% saturation while setting the Temperature and the Lighten blend Mode and all very well explained.
Great video. I have struggled with blending milky way images and this video has been extremely helpful. I will put many these techniques into practice. Thanks.
Thanks Nick I have missed these little tutorials over the past year. So today you have inspired me to get out and shot some night scapes with idea of blending. With luck the smoke will clear out over Alberta and Saskatchewan to try these imaging ideas. If not fall is approaching to reduce the number of fires burning. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing your ideas and workflow. I hope we can meet in the future. Howard Koch
I love this video. I lost my interest in landscape photography a little, but this one motivates me again. I think that's the best video I've seen on TH-cam. I know a little bit about Photoshop. But this kind of blending is new to me. The individual steps that you take here are not known to me either. First of all, I don't look at many landscape photographers posting videos here. But I like your very calm character, plus your pictures are, of course, all phenomenal. I want to take another photo of the Milky Way soon and try to get it done in the same way. I saw your other one too. Just beautiful!
Thanks a lot Nick. I use ON1 Photo RAW not Adobe but I think I can translate most of those across. Some aspects are easier in ON1 others a bit harder. The sky mask accuracy was very impressive. Now all I need is some clear skies in my bit of England to actually see/shoot the Milky Way!!
Excellent! This video came at the right time for me to start editing some recent astrophotography. You made the process so easy to understand - much appreciate your teaching style.
Question for you Nick - for general tripod "leveling" for pano's etc, what would you choose 1. A bowl mounted leveling head that you adjust from underneath the tripod apex or 2. A leveling base that go's between the tripod apex and the head itself ?
Great content and super informative video. I always struggle with creating these dynamic night scenes and you've provided some great tips! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and step-by-step process.
Awesome.. I just started astrophotography and today was my 3rd session. And few minutes back I started to explore the raw images in Luminar AI and able to make some good reasonable outcome with my novice editing skills. Your video is like gods gift for me, thanks for the share some details of your experience.👍🏽👍🏽🔥😎
I have always used Lightroom to edit the images first before moving them to Photoshop. I think your way it's better because you can see all of your images stacked on top of each other and you can turn each layer on and off to compare them. I may start doing it your way. I have not used the sky replacement yet. I will try ending that makes the editing process easier and faster.
This is great information! I have a couple astro shots from our trip to Grand Teton last year that I haven't edited yet because I wasn't sure how. Now I'll give it a go and see what I come up with!
Thanks for the inspiration Nick, a superb tutorial! Have not used the select sky option as I've been "cheating" with the sky replacement tool and using the (perfect) mask it creates to adjust my skies. Going to save this to my "to do" folder.
Perfect timing Nick! I have to give a presentation to my camera club for an upcoming Milky Way field trip next weekend. This will be a perfect addition for our members to use when processing. Great video. Thanks Nick!
This is great, thanks Nick, some really interesting tips. There's an old abandoned church close to where I live which is crying out for some astro and light painting, this will really help!
Loads of valuable tips in this video. Thank you. Once you're done blending the layers and you move into the next phase of editing, "clone out satellites, airplanes ..." do you flatten the layers?
Great work. Have you considered using a 35mm f/1.8 or f/2.8 for night landscapes? With a 3 or 6 shot panorama, you can auto stitch it for unlimited composition and much higher resolution without the huge distortion of a ultra wide. Thus, more depth and balance for your compositions. Consider pixel density and how much faster you can shoot with a index rotor head for the pano at night when time is of the essence when shooting the moving milky way. Nevertheless, I've seen your great landscape photos from all over the USA and the world. Keep up the great work.

Nick is absolute photoshop wizard.
Thank you for the information. Going to Lake Powell in Az this coming week and hope to get some night images to try these techniques out on.
What I learned today: Lighten blend mode is your friend. Thank you for that nugget.

I like watching your editing ninja skills. My H.S. photo club advisor told me , 50 years ago, see the image...take the image...make the image.
Very interesting! I was wondering how you did that from the last video so thanks for sharing Nick
