- The soldiers of 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards have undergone one of the toughest inspections in the British Army. Major General Ben Bathurst, who commands the Household Division, not only examined their uniforms and drill but also tested them on their military knowledge. It’s all part of preparations for the Queen’s Birthday parade in June when the Regiment will be Trooping its Colour.

I joined the Coldstream Guards in 1963 when discipline and standards were a lot tougher, we were in Aden from 1964 to 65. Great Regiment, I would re-join today if they need me (don’t suppose they would as I’m 74 now!).

officers will sometimes use paint it’s like basically like patent , they still use polish layers on top of the beeswax

That's fashion to keep your stars from Lt as worn as they are. The top one on a Captain's ceremonial dress is always fresher.

Always wondered if it would be cooler being a Coldstream Guard or a Grenadier ? Being an ex Pioneer TA cook , we were better in the field ...and on the parade ground than you lot ...Do you agree ?

@@kyalebrooks Trooping Colour isn't what it was drill wise, very squiggly lines. Search for it on 1960s 70s & compare it. As a ex squaddie I know.

koc They don’t. Non commissioned ranks hold a rifle with the left hand and swing the right arm, commissioned officers hold a sword in the right hand and swing the left arm. The legs are in time...
Never saw point of Rifle Drill with Assault Rifle for Ceremonial,Bullpup or not.Get 620 SMLE and keep them go this.Not have to develop new drills.I thought plastic sight covers look ,well"plastic",and pretend.

max cas a big royal wedding does not happen every year, trooping the colour is the biggest annual parade in the diary of all the guards regiments
They’re like panda bears- function is to look good. I don’t know how well they shoot. Can they shoot well? Are they like Westminster dogs where obedience and all that jazz is given?
You don't know nothing about them. They're as qualified as elite forces. They may not kill people, but their gunnery skills are much better than ordinary regiments of the British Army.

If you are saying the Guards train the Royal Air Force then I am afraid although we may be the junior service the RAF Regiment does not need training by any brown job, as good as they are.

Points picked up mean 'extras' and extras means a works parade in coveralls being prepared for whatever shit task the guard commander or duty SNCO requests. Bomber Brown: I'll never forget being soaked up to my neck in waste tank oil back in the day..(1980's)...then 30 minutes later having to parade in no.2's at 11pm for final Duty Officer's inspection. Wanker ! :-)

Formed by Charles I to fight for France in the Thirty Years' War, the Scots are the oldest Regiment in the regular Army. During a good-natured argument over seniority with the French Picardie regiment in the seventeenth century, the Scots claimed to be descended from the Roman unit that guarded Jesus' tomb. Not to be bettered, the French replied that had they been on guard instead, Jesus' body would not have gone missing. Thus they gained the nickname 'Pontius Pilate's Bodyguard
