I will say this again and again Alfred Molina is so Underrated and underappreciated he's not mentioned in this or other underrated lists. I saw him most recently in Promising Young Woman and it further cements how criminally underrated more than others in this list.

I honestly think Paul Dano is pretty underrated…he’s done some really unique roles throughout his career!
I first discovered him when he played the Riddler in The Batman this year, and ever since then I've gone down a Paul Dano rabbit hole. Honestly one of the most brilliant actors of our time.

Toni Collette has always been a star to me. I can’t help but think some actors just choose not to do the “fame” thing. Like they don’t live in NY or LA and in between jobs they go out of their way to stay off the scene and just be known for their work. I think she’s one of those people.

Kathryn Hahn was at her comedic best in Step Brothers, the scenes with her and John C. Reilly were epic! She definitely deserved more screen time though.

I fell in love with John C. Reilly when he sang in "Chicago". He was a wonderful voice.
He had also voice Roles in a few films.
He was Axiom Captain in WALL-E.
He was Wreck-It-Ralph.
He was That Ram in Sing (2016).
I love that Bokeem Woodbine and Sanaa Lathan got shout outs on this list. They're both fantastic! They both deserve more recognition.
What I love about Bokeem is that he'll go from acting in an Oscar-winning movie (Ray) to a bit part as a cop on a television show (Life In Pieces - season 1, episode 2).
Linda Cardellini should be on this list.

I love this list, but who should have been on the list, or at the very least an honorable mention is Matthew Lillard. His range and versatility can put him near the top tier of actors, but he always seems to be one of those actors that is always the one no one really thinks about until you mention him, and the response is always like, "who!?" oh, yeah him from scooby doo!" lol.

John Lithgow is by far best known for 3rd Rock. To say that he's best known for a supporting role in Footloose & a voice role in Shrek is bizarre. You didn't mention or show anything from 3rd Rock.

I grew up with John Lithgow and Kevin Kline in the 80s, and followed John Leguizamo and John C. Reilly in the 90s and 2000s. In Hollywood they are legends. I wouldn't say any of those guys are underappreciated. They just graduated from "I'll do anything for a part" to "If it doesn't speak to me, I've got other things I could do" status.
I saw John Lithgow on Broadway with Glenn Close. They were both wonderful.

I really loved Kevin Kline in "The Big Chill". I would have loved seeing him play the starring role in "Privates Of Penzance" in Shakespeare in the park.
For this 90's kid, when I think of John Lithgow I think of Harry and The Hendersons.

This is a great list. To add some of the great roles of some of these actors - John Lithgow on “Dexter” was epic. Judy Grier on “Arrested Development” was hilarious. John Leguizamo was incredible in “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmare.” Jennifer Coolidge was really good in “White Lotus.”

Jennifer Coolidge also played the character of Ms. Charming in the movie "Austenland" which if you haven't seen it yet then you should cause it's *amazing*
She was also the popcorn ball making mom in the criminally underappreciated "Gentlemen Broncos".

I fell in love with Toni Collette when I saw her in Muriel's Wedding back in the '90s, I was so chuffed to see her become in a sense more mainstream and in so many American films and foreign films, but she really doesn't get the credit she deserves. One of the best damn actresses on the planet

Muriel’s Wedding was my intro to Toni Colette. I remember being so excited by her in that role, and have enjoyed her performances many times over the years. She does a large number of projects, but her short piece in The Hours was so memorable as was Unbelievable. I had the pleasure of being on set with her for one scene in Nightmare Alley as an extra, She was only three rows away from me in the cinema scene.

John Lithgow has won numerous Golden Globes, has a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame and is in Theatre Hall of Fame, and has been nominated for several Oscars. Doesn't seem underrated.

John Lithgow is one of those actors who are well respected in the industry. But, not a "star."

Dylan O'Brien was great in (the also underappreciated, haha) "Love and Monsters"! Jennifer Coolidge is a comedy queen. Kevin Kline in "Dave" - one of my all time favorites.
I cannot believe you didn't mention Toni Collette as Tara in the United States of Tara - that role truly demonstrates the woman's talent.
Or Muriel's Wedding, amazing.

Lithgow, Kline, Colette, Leguizamo, and Garfield are weird additions to this category. All are pretty famous, well-credited Hollywood stars in my book and far from under-appreciated. Otherwise, great list!

You forgot the most underrated actor of all: *C. Thomas Howell.* The guy has a career that dates back to the _early 1980s,_ longer than some names on this list put together…and yet pretty much nobody knows or remembers him.
Dylan O’Brien and Andrew Garfield underrated? Sure….if this was 2014 or earlier. You seriously need to get up to date, because you missed quite a lot. LMAO
Cillian Murphy too hasn’t been underrated for well over a decade.
I had the pleasure of meeting Howell at a Comic-Con a few years back, pretty nice guy. Howell’s career took a nosedive after he did a controversial movie (I think it involved him in blackface), but he’s doing pretty well still; he’s the primary voice actor for Reverse-Flash throughout DC animation.

Thank you for mentioning Howell. 😭 I fell in love with him during Kindred: the Embraced and I feel like shows are elevated when he shows up (Criminal Minds, The Blacklist, The Punisher, Animal Kingdom, to name a few).
Sanaa Lathan is amazing on alien verses predator. And I absolutely love Kevin Kline on Dave.
Recently The New York Times made a list of The greatest actors of the 21st century so far, #25 on that list was Gael García Bernal, he is widely acclaimed but I feel not as much with American audiences. Love that John Leguizamo was mentioned 🙌🏼 Even Though Kevin Kline is an acclaimed actor I feel not so much with millennials and beyond, One of my favorite RomComs is French Kiss!

Alan Tudyk should not only be on this list, he should top it. He's hilarious, brilliant, and diverse, with noteworthy performances in TV, movies, and voice acting.

I love cillian when I was 10-11 years old and Ive been watching his stuff ever since. It upsets me that he doesn't get the recognision he deserves until he was in peaky blinders :(

I feel like Jason Schwartzman is under appreciated yes he is known for Wes Anderson roles but people don't see so much of his other roles beside Wes. I loved him in 7 Chinese Brothers, Bored to Death and Listen Up Phillip. He even does good voice acting in Klaus

The fact that Ben Foster is not even mentioned in this list, just goes to show how underappreciated he is.
DYLAN O'BRIEN MAN! I just seen the outfit this weekend in the theater, and he was so fucking great in it and all the other movies he is in I wish he would win an Oscar one day he just has to find the right movie and Man I Loved him so much in Love and Monsters and last year's Flashback and the 10 mins he was in Infinite was better than the whole movie.

Danny Pudi- He played Abed and Community and was always snubbed at the Emmys for his role. he’s such a great actor overall. He’s done some great work recently on the Apple TV series Mythic Quest.
What about Kelly Macdonald? She never gets the recognition she deserves.

Of course we knew Kevin kline, and his wife Phoebe Cates. In and out was a great film. Why is Joan Cusack not in this list? Or the guy from Severance, or the guy from mom instead of Lithgow, Colette, etc?
No question that THE most underappreciated actor is Glenn Close! Wildly talented, fearless, will do any role. AND she sings, too. The fact that she is the most nominated actress without a single win is proof.

I know Hailee Steinfeld for her role as Charlie(?) in Transformers: Bumblebee, and even provided the song "Back to Life" for said film. She's awesome, imo (in my opinion).
She was great in true grit with Jeff bridges.

Personally I think the most under appreciated and underrated actors/actresses are Max Hardwood, James Paxton, Bill Paxton, Tyler Young, Nicholas Gailtzine, John Leguizamo, and Timothee Chalament, Madison Pettis, Kaitlyn Maher, Quvenzhane Walis, Wesley Snipes, and Victoria Justice. Especially the first five, these handsome and talented young men are just not talked about enough, but you know who else isn't also talked about enough? Underrated, unnoticed and talented smaller TH-cam channels, Mrs. Mojo I think that you're next list should be on these under appreciated actors and actresses I just mentioned, a list of Disney's Treasure Planet and a list on underrated but talented TH-camrs, because I can think of many TH-camrs who DESERVE to be talked about more, like HardStopLucas, VerbalAce, Cartoon Connect, Tomas Sanders, ERB, CrazyGregFlims, TheDragonSuperFan, Scribbler Productions, TheLostNarrator, Chanel Willams, and of course my personal favorite who SHOULD BE number one.... Me! LongHairedGIRL2000!!!! I'm definitely not talked about enough anywhere and I think my creation The Teen Gang is AWESOME, so if you guys could SHARE it for me or even mention me in your next list, that would be great.

I always remember coolidge from her appearance as the masseuse on seinfeld, since that was the first time i saw her.
Hank Azaria is another one that comes to mind. He provides a large variety of characters in The Simpsons, plus has a perfect balance in comedic and versatile roles.
Many of these actors have been well-known and respected for years.
Harland Williams Loved Him In Gary and Mike and most recently In Sammy he was ok in Slacker Cats he's a overlooked actor

I think Paul Giamatti is really underrated. He was amazing as John Adams in HBO's miniseries, he was great in Parkland, Saving Mr. Banks, Cinderella Man, etc. He's also been a guest star in many great shows like Downtown Abbey.
#19 Hong Chau started gaining recognition lately. She received an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in The Whale.
Toni Collette has many awards. She's not very well-known because she doesn't court publicity & isn't hot.
Tom Sizemore is one of the most underrated actors in the history of cinema.

What about Andre Braugher, Steve Buscemi, Chris Cooper, Ed Harris, Laura Linney, Amy Madigan, Joe Mantegna, Sam Rockwell, Courtney Vance, Melora Walters, and a long etcetera?
My favorites: James Rebhorn, James Cromwell, Richard Jenkins, John Hawkes, Matthew Goode and yes, Kevin Kline is one of the best.
Some of these I don't think about b/c I am so familiar with them and their work, like Cillian Murphy.

Bill Hader I’ve already listed because he’s still underrated despite “IT Chapter Two” playing Adult Richie, his own show “Barry” and “SNL” that man is still not fully appreciated for his work. Check out a little hidden gem of a movie of his called “The Skeleton Twins” if you’ve never seen or heard of it, it has every single type of emotion going! And another movie called “Maggie’s Plan.”)

I could go on and on but I’d end up writing a trilogy of books.
All these people are amazing performers and even though some have won awards their still underrated especially when you actually look at their body of work they’ve done that’s not that well known. Just because they’re well known for one or two things, they’ve got some secret hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Edit: and the title should say “actresses” as well not just “actors” because female performers are called “actresses” and male performers are called “actors”

Other underappreciated who may be a little older than this list: Giancarolo Esposito, Jeffrey Wright, Audra McDonald, Louis Gossett, Jr (won an Oscar), Michael Beach, Frances McDormand, Joan Cusack, Katherine O'Hara, and the late William Hurt and John Heard, among many more
Kathryn Hahn had her first shot on Crossing Jordan as the lovely and caring Lilly Lebowski, I loved that show. You could have shown that😕.

Some of these I don't know, mostly because they are still quite young. The ones I have to mention are Toni Collette, John C. Riley, and Jennifer Coolidge. But of the entire list I have to mention two. John Lithgow is totally underrated. I see at least one mention of "Dexter'" where he plays a very believable serial killer, but he was also in "The World According to Garp" and also "Third Rock from the Sun". He's very funny. He can do anything. But the most amazing underrated actor on this list is John Leguizamo. He's as completely masculine as a guy could be as an army special forces Captain in Executive Decision, but he can also play completely feminine as he did as Chi-Chi Rodriguez, a NYC drag queen in "Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar". The three actors in this movie spent the entire movie in drag. And Leguizamo was brilliantly believable!
I love how most of this list are some of my favourite actors, and there's only 1 person I've never heard of (haven't seen any of her films).
Add Jeremy Renner, and Vince Vaughn, too. They're BOTH, IN MY OPINION highly underappreciated actors too.
And dude... Jenna Malone in Bastard Out of Carolina was so good. That is a EXTREMELY graphic film. Like EXTREMELY GRAPHIC. But, it's a good movie.
When you think Toni Collette made her big debut in Muriel‘s wedding, That’s when you really get an idea of how consistently good she is.
