    I love GG1’s! There’s two abandoned Amtrak GG1’s near me with lots of old freight cars in Cooperstown Junction, New York. I’ve been inside them. Cool stuff!

    I've done some research on the Tyco power torque engines and they're actually okay Motors the amateurs . Are actually really good they saved money by putting cheaper magnets in them you can upgrade magnets with slot car magnets make a world of difference you'll want to upgrade with Dash magnets Aurora. And the old mu motors. You can get the rare earth magnets at Harbor Freight. Unbelievable difference. Great video when you going to do that red and white Canadian national.

      They're low torque but produce a high rpm so they geared them to turn the speed into torque, this makes them power efficient since motors use very little power at a high rpm. Not a bad choice is cutting costs is your goal.

    Hey Harrison, It's not, By all means polar type as the AHM HO Scale Model!!!! This Tyco GG-1 is very amateur!!!
    Although, AHM came out with a GG-1 Painted up in Great Northern Railroad! You Definitely have to Laugh 😅😂 at that! Only The Pennsylvania Railroad had GG-1!!!!🚂🚃🚃🚃

      @SMTMainline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Without a doubt. They made these things to be cheap to make and easy to sell to beginners and youngsters.

      @@SMTMainline Thank You Harrison for getting back to me on this Tyco GG-1 Electric Locomotives! I Had a Friend that Had a fantastic HO layout and he had a Virginian GE E-44 Electric Locomotive. The thing is He installed a Homemade Overhead wires to power this Electric engine. The Engine won't work on pain track, only the section where there's Overhead wires. He was a pioneer in wiring up a HO Layout!!!

    STOP REMOVING THE GEARS WITH A SCREWDRIVER LIKE THAT. They dont break if you actually take the time to remove them gently with some patience.

    • @SMTMainline
      @SMTMainline  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Calm down Dan, those gears we're not coming off without extra effort, someone had put some kind of lubricant that had completely jammed them in place and once the first one broke off I just decided to replace the whole block.

    • @dirtydanstrains1414

    It's not a GG1. It's a model of the little known BB1 of 1951, which employed a motor generator set to convert 11000V 25Hertz AC to 600V DC to feed traction motors in diesel type trucks. Only one was ever built (PRR Class B = 0-6-0, BB = 0-6-0+0-6-0)

    Super. My railroad still has one Powertorque unit operating, but I restrict it from running outside because of the exposed gears. 💙 T.E.N. Edit: Out of the seven brand new Tyco Powertorque locomotives that I bought, which were operated quite hard, only my RF-16 Sharknose survived without becoming a dummy, and I noticed that the surviving Shark has a slightly different drive unit with three screws holding the cover plate on, not just one like all of the other locos that died, and slightly thicker gears. Just putting that out there for the Tyco operators. 💙 T.E.N.

      Tyco was certainly trying to improve the drive. I saw one which had a factory oil cloth, I think they quickly got rid of it.

    Late to the party. Hope you still have the little Tyco GG1. I suspect the reason it is spinning its' wheels is that the traction tires on the plastic wheels are gone. Maybe look to see if they are there. Nice work!

    SMT - If you want to remove that solder from the armature shaft, take a piece of bare copper wire & put some flux on it. Then hold the wire against the solder on the shaft with the tip of your heated-up soldering iron. The flux will cause the molten solder to " wick away " from the armature shaft & onto the copper wire. Nail Polish Remover will break down CA glue, but keep it away from plastic!

    I recently bought the same (fake) GG1 from Tyco, but in the brown Pennsylvania version. It needs repairs too. Your video is very helpful and I have to repair mine. Keep in mind that the real GG1 has a 2-CC-2 wheel arrangement not a CC like this Tyco that is also shortened and not to scale.

      It's the experimental BB1 of 1951, which used a P5A (modified)/R1/GG1/DD1 style car body to house a motor-generator set to convert 11000 V 25 Hertz AC to 600 V DC to feed traction motors in diesel style three motor/three axle trucks. Only one was ever built, but it lasted until Amtrak
