Big disappointment with my Northstar strobe - and Aviator PPG - ordered it along with two wing
tip strobes before I even had a Paramotor , while I was still in training - put it away in a cupboard
until recently when I felt competent enough to fly at sunset. When I then tried to charge the unit via a mini usb cable the socket you plug it into came away inside leaving me with nothing to plug into - when I contacted Aviator I was told it was out of warranty and hard luck - so I telephoned from the uk (quite expensive) - and was told to fix it myself - I have taken it apart as instructed- but the components are far too minute for me to fix. Since then I have emailed twice but can’t get a reply.
Thank god i didn’t buy their $1300 helmet which I note is shown on their site as only having a **90 day warranty.
Lesson learnt - I will avoid them in future !

Dogs are awesome, but if they're in public off leash you should have better recall than that. Those ladies didn't know what was happening and the dogs could have put themselves at risk of getting hurt, or damaging equipment. Glad it all worked out.

      Hi Roger :)
I agree with what Tucker had to say as well.
I would also add an airbag that attaches to the bottom of your seat.
I remember years ago, when I fist started watching PARAMOTOR vids.,
there seemed to be lots of pilots with them fitted to their seats.
I don't know if they were only fitted to a particular brand of harness, or
if they were an after market accessory, but I like the idea of looking after
your spine if you come down hard on your butt, especially as I already
have an ingeory to my back.
It could be the difference between walking away from a hard butt crash
on concrete or boulder sized rocks, or lying there (God Forbid) paralyzed.
Your Spine is just as important as your Head and I would consider an airbag
to be the equivalent of a helmet for your butt.
      Don from Down Under :)
      P.S.
      Just say'n

When cave diving we have multiple line cutters (something to look into) you want to be able to reach your cutter with either hand at different positions. So I have one on my right wrist and one on my left shoulder strap (for this sport I would probably throw in another one at waist height for good measure)

Agree with your sentiments, however I would dare to add another (that's probably quite obvious). Always have a cell phone or GPS locator (if you're flying where there's no service). Having a way out of the sticks if you have a motor out (or worse) is invaluable.

  • @RealCadde
    @RealCadde 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I will have to add one more "item" to that list.
A reliable weather source. One that gives you all the details of what the air is doing at different altitudes in your location.
And it needs to be with you at all times, possibly strapped to your arm so you can read it easily.
And plan your flights days in advance and keep monitoring that weather. If you are flying every day for a few days then you have watched the weather and what it's doing for at least 3 days before your first flight and then you keep yourself updated throughout. Weather can change in a heartbeat and if you don't get advance warning you will eventually find yourself in a nasty windshear that will throw you to the ground from 300 feet in seconds.

@Tucker Gott. This is a late comment, but in your video you asked for other safety ideas. Here is one from my experience. To me, carrying an Aviation Band radio has been very beneficial to keeping me and others safe. I have a Rexon tied into a Sena via Bluetooth with the radio tuned to the local Unicom frequency. I only fly out of small airports...some of them being grass strips. Despite avoiding flying at pattern altitudes, monitoring the radio has helped me avoid potentially dangerous situations. Ironically the busiest airport I took off from was a small grass strip with a three vintage aircraft flying the pattern. Thankfully all of them were using a radio announcing their intentions in the pattern in and out of touch and goes. For whatever reason a J3 Cub landed downwind head on for me while I was getting ready to take off along the edge of the runway. By hearing them I held short and waited for them to pass by. I announced "Northport Traffic, Paramotor taking off mid field to the northwest and maintaining 300 feet for 2 miles, Northport traffic". This gave me a wide birth of the other plans. Also this season I encountered a medical helicopter 2 miles out headon at the same height, and a loitering Blackhawk heli (another story). I communicated to the medical helicopter and we course corrected. The last one was at a grass strip with a two runways with a T-intersection. He came in crosswind from a blindspot behind the trees and hangers. Again, thankfully he announced and I heard him despite scanning the sky multiple times before takeoff. The lesson for me is that even when flying at these seemingly vacant rural Wisconsin strips there can be surprise traffic at any time of the day from any direction. The Av Band radio has been a very useful tool for me.

Hey Tucker here in Australia we are under the jurisdiction and rules of all aircraft pilots. There are limitations and restrictions in place. Such as how close we fly to people,or hight flying over towns. Further we have to make VHF calls when we are in any airport zone. Unfortunately we deal with Karen's also with Further makes both paramotoring and paragluiding more restricted. However Australia has some amazing areas and sites. Love to see you over here one day. Cheers Tristan Sanders. Enjoying your info.

Best helmet shape is one similar to those worn by a cyclist. The slight peak at the front protect your nose from being broken when you hit a hard flat surface as the peak stick out more than your nose.

  • @donaldrouze1851

First of all, I never knew this was even a thing, until this morning when I woke from a dream where I was harnessing in to a parachute type of body harness and then buckling into what I'm discovering must have been a trike, running parachute cord through them, and clipping in. VERY vivid dream, so I started a search for "parasail air cart". I eventually surfed my way to your videos and have been really enjoying them all day (and a few others on the subject). I am chomping at the bit to try it. I love flying multi-line kites and did a solo sky dive once. (favorite part of the sky dive was sitting under the open chute.) I'm curious about a couple of items that may or may not be available accessories. I noticed in several of your videos that your throttle hand seems captive at all times. Is there a "cruise control" that can be used? another thing that I think I might have seen you using in your "325 miles in one day" was a foot rest of some sort. Also do people get upset when you call the wing a kite?

  • @CrimFerret

It's actually harder in some cases to see distant objects at dusk because the contrast level drops as the light level does, but your eyes don't really adjust for that very well. Anything you can do to remain more visible at that point is a good thing. Obviously as the light level falls further, your strobes will really start standing out.

I personally always have a Garmin inReach with me in case of a bad landing in a remote place with no cell phone coverage. It's great for tracking flights and good to know I can get rescued at the touch of a button. Amongst other things I always have with me: Mirror for fuel check, spark plug and spark plug wrench, a small 1.5dl bottle of motul 800 oil good for 10 litters of gas, Power bank connected to my GoPro for uninterrupted recording, Clear or yellow glasses. Would love to know your 5 non flight related accessories, the 5 accessories you should never buy because they are never going to be useful (I have a few :-D ) and also links to your powerfloats. Thanks for the great videos, always brightens up my mornings to wake up to them. Cheers

Hey Tucker! Love your videos! YOU ROCK!
You always do a great job of sharing your experiences with us and you do your best to be mindful of how your actions will affect and influence others. Thank you! There is however, one safety item that I feel like you have overlooked and are not setting a good example for others to follow, not only endangering yourself but also those that admire and want to emulate you, and that would be eye protection. You made the comment in one of your other videos that you don’t want anything distorting your view. Well being blind would definitely distort your view and would also make it very difficult, if not impossible to do the very thing that you love and provides you the lifestyle that you are afforded. We love watching your videos, they are very entertaining and informative. I eagerly await each episode. I would hate for them to end because you lost your eyesight, that would be tragic. By the way you can pick up a pair of clear safety glasses at Harbor Freight for $1.99. I can tell you from experience they don’t distort my view. Thanks again and keep up the great work! ROCK ON!!!

You mentioned including a helmet. As a doctor, I seriously agree. Question: when I used to ride motorcycles I always wore a helmet, but also fitted with a visor, sometimes a bubble, sometimes straight, or clear, or tinted. I’m an eyeglass wearer but more than that I was concerned about foreign bodies of all sorts banging me in the face and eyes. I even had a small plexiglass windshield for rocks, although I know that’s not one of your big concerns. Comments?

A good counter argument to the reserve chute would be it getting released accidentally. Say right after a launch or whenever. Though that only holds when you're flying a really safe wing that, for example, doesn't lock in a spiral. Either way, I preffer to have one and obviously check it every time to make shure it won't just get released by mistake.

The i-Phone is probably your most used safety tool. You use it for weather, navigation and communications all the time. I would also add that a wrist lanyard or retractable lanyard would be good to have so you don't drop your i-Phone into the abyss.

Like that semi-circular strobe. A point source, even 2 of them, are not very useful for detecting distance and flight path. I don't fly a paramotor (old guys need to avoid hard contacts with solid objects) but sometimes I ride my bike on paved trails at night. Judging distance of a LED headlight, or even 2, is almost impossible until they are very close. Oh yeah, I can testify that helmets are a very good idea.

MY question is can you still instal the flotation device the same way if you plan on a side mount reserve?

    • @EBangtson1
      @EBangtson1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I attach my floats the same way. On shoulder straps. There is also a tie in on the individual floats that I take to the frame above the shoulder straps. My reserve is side mounted. The routing does come through the shoulder straps, whereas Tucker hooks in lap mount reserve to main carabiners (I believe). I am due a repack. You got me thinking it might be wise to throw on my power floats and check interference with reserve. Looking at it and thinking about progression of incident, I don’t think the floats would interfere with proper reserve inflation, but a good item to check.

@@TuckerGott I was like, "oh, $hit!" *Why I fly RC planes in controlled areas, rather than parks.. distraction, damage, liabilities..yikes..really tough to tell folks to leash their dogs temporarily so you can land & secure when exploiting an otherwise perfect LZ.. ..on public use land..🤔 Better landing than taking off though, made a great example! (Dogs must have thought you were off your leash too! Lol) Thank you for another fun to watch informative video, you are giving present and future pilots a fantastic bonus to their training!

Great video as always but just curious about what you have for a strobe ? Any links? And how you attached it? Ran wires?

There are links in this video description as well as a short explanation. The wiring is very simple and it's all just attached with tape.

@tucker gott , I believe you said at one time your reserve is not the steerable type, why is that your choice of reserve? Wouldn't you want a steerable reserve, that would at least give you some options and possibly some control in what is or would be a bad situation? The Beamer 3 or even the KORTEL KRISIS ROGALO II come to mind. Thanks and enjoy the videos.

I've seen Trent Palmer & co carry a little satellite SOS / message device - that seems like it might be a good thing to have especially if adventure/cross country flying. I seem to recall that you had an incident where one of your buddies had an engine out and had no cell signal and he was quite hard to find...

I like the white led lights but it would be really cool if you put red on one side and green on the other side same as aircraft.

I'm not pro-helmet for motorcycles because I had the experience of freedom for decades of riding without one.
    Although...
When I went down on my Goldwing and had 900+lbs land on me from 5 feet in the air, it crushed my helmet.
Just think what the outcome would've been without it...
BTW, I tried lifting it off me and couldn't. Everything went black, then I became paralyzed before passing out.
Two gardeners from O'Neill Landscaping saw what happened and tried to lift it off me, but couldn't. They called 3 more gardeners who were near by. They pulled me out from under it and one of them gave me CPR because my heart stopped.
    Helmets are a good idea!😉👍
A big Thank You to the O'Neill landscape gardeners in Valencia California and the hospital triage unit up there!

I am a 43 year old male. I have been working on my fitness level. I lost 60 lbs. last year and am now working on adding a little muscle back. I have a history of knee troubles but I do alright. I have no experience with anything like this, and may be a little old to start now. I was a Paratrooper in the US Army and have been thinking about checking out skydiving. I know they are two different types of jumping and that's the point. I want something new. I miss being in the air and often wished I had more time up there than you get during a static line jump. I have started watching Tuckers videos again lately and when I saw the recent video involving the trike, I started wondering if paramotoring might be something worth checking out. Anyone have any insight?

Let's say you take off, but while you're flying your LZ gets socked in by fog. Would a GPS/altimeter of some sort be adequate to land at your LZ anyway? What combination of GPS and altimeter would be required?

    • @francisconti9085
      @francisconti9085 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Alternate LZ time if you need to land "NOW" .. need to see to land.. as morning goes on, fog burns off, but winds can blow it in & temporarily obscure.. (anxious to hear "the boss's" response)
