    Great video and review Sootch. I also received this knife via Battlbox but I had seen Matt Graham using it on his TV show before I got mine. I wasn’t a big fan (I ain’t gonna lie but it just looked kind of weird) until I used it in the field. Now it’s my go to bushcraft knife. It handles multiple tasks well and it’s easy on the hand. I haven’t tried it as a skinner yet but I’m betting it’ll work great at skinning as well. It ain’t pretty but it works like a hoss. Thanks for sharing.

    Never thought I'd be a fan of 420 stainless , but after testing this blade (strength - ductility - edge retention ) we were impressed . Very comfortable and wish it was 3/16 - .187 thick .
    Thanks for your video and ATB .

    This knife is the perfect tool for bushcraft-no other cutting tools needed. To be honest, I thought it was kind of gimmicky at first, but after seeing it in action I may have to rethink this...great video!

    I put a hole in the tab and put a 1 foot piece of paracord through it to tie it onto my belt. I’ve used it in the Louisiana Bayou and the Nicaraguan Jungle...it definitely punches above its weight class. Great knife. I carry it in my get home bag.

    First, I'll enjoy watching this even more on your Patreon page. Second, this is a better-sized knife for me than some of the bigger knives. I'm 5'2" so not super short, but some of the bigger knives or longer knives are harder for me to wield. (I'm not giving up though.) I like it! Thanks sootch00 and Matt Graham.

    Great job as always .. looks like a hard working knife .. but I think it needs a sheath with connectivity for your belt .. then again decent sheaths seem to be a problem with a number of big knives .. I have a Cold Steel Smachet .. great knife but I had to have a local guy here in phx area make me a better sheath .. the condor knife looks like a smaller version

    Similar design to mine. I made my first one from a piece of AUS8. My current version is forged using CPM154. I don't sell knives but used to when my forge was up and running. The difference between my blade shape and this knife can be best described by flipping the edge. If the back of the knife was the. Sharp edge it would be exactly like my design. I prefer a long curved cutting edge. My blade has a distal taper that has a 1/4" spine.

    • @SensiblePrepper
      @SensiblePrepper  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Battlbox has yet to disappoint me. There are some items that I may not use but over all, it's been a great resource to build my Preps plus hand out to friends. It's the best Subscription box for Preppers IMHO. I also like the Survival Boxes. They are simple but have a Dehydrated food box that I've been getting for almost 2 years. It's great piece of mine. Thanks Eric.

    Sweet knife, but it isn't the carbon content that allows it to strike a fero rod. A sharp rock or piece of glass will strike a fero rod. Thanks for the review!

    • @SensiblePrepper
      @SensiblePrepper  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, typical Stainless Steel won't work with a firesteel but the High Carbon SS content allows for the Strike capabilities. Thanks Brother!

    • @MutsPub
      @MutsPub 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sootch - Sorry, but that is a misconception.
      1) IA Woodsman - TH-cam Video. Uses Flint, Quartz, Various Steels
      th-cam.com/video/eltjfIeTsxU/w-d-xo.html
      2) BushcraftUSA Article
      bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/ferro-rod-stainless-steel.40647/
      Ferro rod only need: "Something" Harder than rod, Sharp or 90° spine to throw sparks. Doesn't have to be metal i.e. Flint, Quartz. Stainless or Carbon Steel is irrelevant.
      "Flint & Steel" needs High Carbon content. The "chipping" iron oxidizes & creates hot spark.

    With all condor tools, it's a hit or miss on whether or not it'll come with a good edge. But once you put an edge on it they're such great tool, and they're cheap enough that I don't mind beating the crap out of them

  • @lucianodaros
    @lucianodaros 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This looks like a sturdy knife, for heavy jobs, isn't it contradictory to have a "skandi" grind, which is for more precise / delicate cuts?

    • @DepthWave
      @DepthWave 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scandi is one of the toughest grinds because it has so much material just behind the edge. It's all about the angle. If you convex the cutting edge, it's going to be the strongest you can get it. I don't recommend that though, it'll really reduce the carving capabilities. On the other hand you can flat grind or convex grind the shoulder and create a thinner edge, increase the slicing ability.

    • @lucianodaros

    News flash you dont need any carbon to use a ferro rod. A sharp edge of stone or glass will work with ferro rod. That being said high carbon IS needed for use with flint.

  • @outlawgt3045
    @outlawgt3045 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm sure the knife works great. I think most survival knives would work great in a survival situation and that most people are just nit picky. If you gave an Esee cheerleader a $50 Schrade and dropped him off in the wilderness, he would do just as good without his favorite knife. Give a Ka Bar fanboy a Gerber, same thing.. It's not the knife, it's the knowledge. There are guys who wouldn't last a weekend with a $1000 knife..
    With that said, that Condor knife is one of the ugliest, if not the ugliest survival knives I've ever seen.
