As far as the Ausbildung is concerned I would advise you to follow your heart, expertise and interest and then decide your profession. Every profession is great to work in but the best one is in which you are expert !!

Most of the professions ending with "-er" are male professions. Krankenpfleger means "male nurse" so it will be "der Krankenpfleger".
Female professions usually end with "-in" e.g "Krankenpflegerin" so it will be "die Krankenpflegerin" for a female nurse.
