  • As you get older, your brain health may decline due to factors such as shrinking brain volume, reduced blood flow, and inflammation. This can affect your memory, cognition, and mood, and increase your risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia. Fortunately, you can support your brain health by eating a balanced diet that includes foods rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B6, and other nutrients that protect and nourish your brain cells. In this article, we will introduce you to 10 of the best foods for brain health after 50, and explain how they can benefit your brain function and overall well-being.

You can keep blood pressure and cholesterol under control eating grapefruit and/or its juice. In addition, using a light salt like Morton’s LITE Salt (also is iodized), does not raise BP like regular salt (sodium/chloride).
Fatty fish can be substituted with walnuts. If you are watching your cholesterol, eggs are known to raise it.
BTW, MV father and maternal grandmother both died of Alzheimer’s disease. They both drank coffee. I don’t think coffee hurts you much I can’t sleep well, so I avoid drinking much of it.
What impacts the brain is fat from animal foods as this raises cholesterol which is what eggs will do also.
My husband and I eat a vegan diet, ten years for me, seven for him. I am down 80 lbs. he’s still losing weight. Both my grandma and my dad, showed sign of dementia at my age. I do not have it.
Alzheimer’s is also known as Diabetes Type III, the Whole Foods Plant-Based diet when you eat very low-fat, no oils, can reverse type II Diabetes. When one eats high fat, the fat gets into the cells and then the cells will not be able to take blood sugar out of the blood. But it the condition is reversed with diet so long as you make veganism the way you eat all the time. You do not have the expense of having to take prescription drugs. We do not have to take drugs. But we do take D3 and B12, a multiple vitamin with no iron in it, magnesium and potassium, turmeric, I also take a gelatin capsule and biotin for my hair and nails and my skin. And I take an Estroven as my mother and sister both died of breast cancer, so the doctors will not give me HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy). I do eat tofu and edamame soy beans. The soy is a good source of protein as are all other beans.

Good material, but the best food source of sulforaphane is broccoli sprouts, not mature broccoli. But if that's inconvenient, they do sell supplements. Vitamin K in broccoli is not going to be K2; the benefits of K2 are going to be from supplements, or if you are willing to pay the money for food sources, from grass fed animal products.
