Replacing Hard Brake Lines on a 2004 Jeep Wrangler TJ

  • Was stopping at a stop sign when the brake pedal went to the floor and we had absolutely ZERO brakes in the TJ! Thankfully, because it's a manual, it was pretty easy to limp home without brakes. It turned out to be a failure in the hard brake lines. They say if you have a failure in one, the rest are just ticking time bombs, so replace them all. So I did... with stainless steel brake lines from Classic Tube. I also decided to replace the master cylinder and rear brake calipers at the same time. Here is the process, which I did over the course of two days...

Hey. Working on my 01 tj. Dude. You’re like the only video that shows the finagling, which is the part where a first timer like me, needs that confidence. Hands down best tip, going in that corner for that passenger side line. Thank you so much.

Love this. Just completed this last month on my 98 TJ. My passenger line was a bit longer than OEM so it sits a little differently but overall works. Also the plastic clips holding the passenger line to the frame are brittle. Mine broke. Glad to see your clips survived. Great video!

Thanks for the video, my passenger front currently goes over the engine, does a loop and goes down, it’s in the way for installing AC so I have to redo it,

I need a part number for that one block that goes on the rear axle, is the hard soft line that you mentioned

Thank you! Great vid! (Which kit part number did you get? I'm only finding the one with rear drums)

Getting ready to do this job in the next day or two. It appears that if you removed the front driver's side tire it would make life easier. Any thoughts or input from others that have performed this chore.

Hey I’m in the middle of changing my hard brake lines on my 2001 TJ. Did you need to change the master cylinder or just did it since you were changing the lines?

Great video! I'm currently doing the same thing on my 03 Rubicon. The problem I am having is that the brackets at the rear calipers are basically rusted to nothing and I have no clue where to get new ones. Any advice?

Are you ever going to get another Jeep wrangler? Or maybe some other off road vehicle?

I need to talk to you about what’s going on with my vehicle. I seen your video when you did a transmission flush and new filter and cleaning. My transmission went out in July this year a 14 v6 Challenger with about 73843 miles. I was the second owner when I got it with 33000 miles on it. I visited the dealership 3 times within the period before reaching 73843 mileage when the transmission went out and they never serviced the transmission and I can’t service the transmission either because it doesn’t have a dipstick it’s a W5A580 transmission rwd my warranty expired around 66000 miles and my last visit to the dealership while under warranty was at 62000 miles and they claim the car is operating fine but shortly after that visit and my warranty expires my transmission goes out what a coincidence. By my transmission not having a dipstick it’s not serviceable to me only the dealership but when I went in the past I don’t believe they dropped the pan and inspected the oil to see the condition of the transmission because they sure didn’t tell or recommend me to replace filter or do a flush they didn’t provide any status or related info only saying the car is operating as designed they did other services but nothing on the transmission. After my transmission went out in July this summer I been watching a lot of videos and learning a lot about transmission. Especially get the oil change early before the manual even says and changing filter. I didn’t know anything about this stuff before my transmission went out. I knew nothing about the parts on a car I don’t think I even said the word transmission the entire time my car was running but Sorry for the long text but I had to get it out and get your expert analysis.

shouldve put new rotors or had them turned

That’s just surface rust. The rotors were replaced recently. As were the pads.

@@EVERYTHINGcpo I am guessing the area in which you moved to has consistent very high humidity to rust a rotor in a months time, not kind at all to bare metal. Every place around this globe comes with its good and bad when it comes to mother nature. Nice to see there are aftermarket brake line kits like that available for older vehicles that still have lots of life left in them.
