Well thank you Mark. That's very much appreciated. My first camp out in it was the best sleep I've ever had camping and that was in a storm. I'm hopefully out again in it tongiht as found a little woodland in the middle of nowhere yp North where I'm going for a meeting tomorrow. My excuse for saving the company hotel costs 🤣 I will certainly send your feedback to Haven as they will be glad to hear it. BTW someone commented on Facebook when I posted this that its not a game changer and to keep it real, its just a gimmick so and glad you recognise the benefits.of this over other hammocks. 👍
Yeah you could always do a revised version of your review. I’m only slightly shorter than you and the thought of laying on my back all night was just not an option. I also stumbled across the Amock a while ago and still scratched my head before moving on . Yes this is a game changer…. You’ve made me sit up and take notice of something I’d completely dismissed. You’ve sold me this product Mike… yes me… a Hilleberg snob who dines out at Sourton Burger King 🤣 🍔 Can’t wait to see you’re first camp in it… ATB, Mark 😉👍🏻
Awesome hammock! I hadn’t watched this video of yours yet but I’m glad I did. I’ve been avoid this hammock for the initial price but now that I’ve investigated things properly, it’s actually not that expensive as you said Mike, considering all that’s included. An ENO skyloft and comparable sleeping pad is going to cost around 300€ same as this whole kit. This is great for something like bicycle touring where comfort and versatility matters more than pack size. Weight isn’t bad at all tbh, but definetly not for the UL fanatics, and the pack size makes it unlikely to be used for backpacking honestly. I would guess this would appeal more to someone who would also use a trangia storm cooker than to a dehydrated meals type of person. As you said, the pad means you can use it on the ground if you need to go above treeline, or somewhere there aren’t trees (unlike with an underquilt setup). One major problem though is that it can’t be used as a chair for a long time, as opposed to a gathered end hammock, because you’ll get sore under your legs from the fabric that supports the flat shape. Definetly agree with the tarp being too small, I would prefer a longer and wider one, as porch mode is nice to have, and I suspect water would get in, or at least wet the hammock on the head and foot ends.
Cheers Pedro. It is a great set up but I've had some issues if you check my later videos. Resolved admittedly by Haven. You definitely need a bigger tarp though as if it rains you're confined to laying inside the whole time to keep dry. I use the onewind tarp which is excellent. And yes using as a chair cab be painful after a while as it cuts into your legs but I just put a jacket or something under my legs and this stops it 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper yeah I saw these when they first were on the kickstarter and had been keeping an eye on him since just haven't had the money to pull the trigger yet
Thanks mate, I have yet to try mine out, but I’m looking forward to it! I got it about 2 weeks ago but haven’t had a chance to try it. I was wondering about the tarp, and I might buy a bigger one. My Haven XL cost me $549AUD, which right now equates to £307, but I’m in Tasmania, Australia, about as far away from either yourself or the manufacturer as can be! We have a similar climate to the UK in Tassie though, so I think it’ll be perfect. Time, will tell though. I got it from an Australian retailer online and I’m very happy with their service!
The hammock itself is great (although check my later videos as had some issues) but I've swapped the tarp out for a onewind 3 x 4 and it's way better. The Haven is fine for good weather but you just need more cover if raining and need to cook or not be confined to laying in your hammock all the time. 👍
Really great honest review, I hope you get loads of fun with it. I got into hammock camping about 10 years ago now, and still absolutely love camping in them, Especially the aspect of being off the ground with a tarp makes me feel Im in nature. Whereas In a tent it shuts it out. Looking forwards to you using it out and about. This year Im planning to see if any of Dartmoor’s tors have any rocks that just might fit a hammock between them, even if I have to take more rope. 👍
Thanks buddy. You'd need some ingenious mountaineering skills to get a hammock on the tors!! That id love to see! Had my first night in it Wednesday. Weather was horrific. Constant rain and Hugh winds. Worst it could be for my first hammock. And I loved it! So I'm sure I will become obsessed over the coming months as the weather improves. Just need to fund some better places to go 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper Excellent glad it all worked out. Regards Dartmoor, Yep Ive some ‘Rock climbing nuts’ plus a Tensa solo stand so Im hopeful! Hammock camping is addictive lol.
I might have misheard so I'll apologise first, I'm in my tent with the wind going 🎪😂 I think you said you can't lie on your side in an amok hammock, you can I do. Oh and the different orientation is not a problem, you can literally set it off like a rocking chair it's mint lol. Looks a banging hammock.
Defo misheard. Amok and haven I reckon are the only ones where you can side, front and back lay properly. Do like the Amok and the swing would probably be fine just thought it might feel odd. 👍
I set the Tent/ Hammock up and went to then attach the tarp, I found it difficult to unhook the carabiner from the tree strap.... I wonder if taking out the spreader bars might give it all a bit more slack, very happy so far and going over to Beehive Bushcraft for it's first try out!
Thanks singe. I drive past so many forested areas during work thinking, wish I had a hammock as I'd never get my tent in there so fingers crossed they'll be as good as they look. OK regard to weight, totally agree. I was surprise buy if you look at hammock camping in comparison to normal tents, most are hammockers don't seem to hike far and also tend to carry saws and Bushcraft gear so don't seem worried about weight. I won't be hiking far so it's perfect for me. Camped Wednesday and had the best sleep ever. 👍
You don't need a Haven or Amok hammock to get a flat lay. You just need a big enough hammock to be able to lay diagonally. Maybe a 12ft hammock for someone your size. I've always seen these as a bit of a gimmick tbh. Let us know how you get on with it. If you want a decent lightweight tarp to compliment it, check out the DD superlight 👍
Can you roll in your sleep to your side and front though? I slept in this Wednesday in a storm. Best nights sleep I've ever had camping. Amazing how comfy it is and I got all my gear inside as well. 👍
Does look good mate few tweaks and sort that tarp out 😉 and it’s a winner , top company for sending that out to you , very well presented esp the beginning top notch 👌
That looks a great hammock and I totally get why you explain all the costs at the beginning the only thing I don't like is the sides are canny low and you would feel the wind coming through other than that I really like it the tarp I wouldn't use with the hammock but it would be a good tarp for stealth camping atvb jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Well I had it out on Wednesday but with a larger tarp. In a storm as well 😂 was absolutely fine but with the original you wouldn't feel anything if it was tied down against the sofa in storm mode 👍
This video kinda makes me sad I forgot about the kickstarter that I obviously missed out on. At the time they were having some issues with leaking tarps, and typical new production issues. I think it would be nice if they offered each item separately. Like the tarp. I know the tarp with it, and pad etc.. make a sort of perfect kit, but I agree that I’d rather use a tarp I already have, and I would be way more likely to buy one if I didn’t have to pay for a second one. I’ll try out my new DD travel, that also doubles as a tent, and if I don’t like it, I’ll have to remember these guys.
Thanks for the review. For me, these are just too heavy. I think they have so much potential though! If you manage to get your hands on one, I'd be curious as to how you would find a traditional 'flat lay' hammock working just from a diagonal lay. I am mostly a side sleeper and also shift quite a bit, but somehow manage in this style of hammock (Dream Hammock, Hennessey, Warbonnet, Dutchware etc). I have even found that 90% of the flat lay effect is from the length of the ridgeline, which you can add on to even a cheap hammock. Anyway, just food for thought.
I have been sent a hammock from unigear which although feels comfortable isnt really right for me but it has made me think about getting a more standard one to try out. Keep watching and I might be posting something 👍 atb.
To be fair that hammock does look awesome. Cant fault the price either (free 😂). You did seem quite happy with it but I know it cant replace your tent... not many trees on the Tors. Great review Mike 👍👌
No wont be using it on dartmoor. Even where there are trees you're not allowed to hammock camp as the trees are protected so no using them. But I will be finding other woodland spots 😉👍
Looks awesome.... and great value for money... i bought a more convential hammock a few years ago but havent had the chance to use it... maybe this year i hope .... atb Dave Mc
When you you take everything into consideration its not as expensive as it first looks. Plus for a total flay pay with insulated pad it's a pot cheaper than the Amok which is the only other competition. Cheers for watching dave 👍
Mike a great review there pal👌all the points you covered at the start apply to me also except the bad back. The hammock looks a great improvement on banana shape style, however it's really not for me. If I were to use one it would be next to a parked up vehicle containing all my stuff. The price isn't an issue just how much use would I get. Well done getting your hands on one👍 atb Taff 🤠👊
I wonder if you could use trekking poles rather than the spreader bars, to save a bit of weight? One thing I was taught with hammocks was to never sling them higher than you’re prepared to fall :)
Trekking poles wouldn't fit in the holes they have. You could possibly adapt it but I wouldn't want to try. Probably ruin it. Although a friend is designing some carbon versions of those poles once I know the weight difference will decide if its worth it. 👍
You definitely could. It's basically a slightly barrow single bed. I could fit my mid size cockapoo in it. Although hes fat abd wpuod probably throw the weight distribution out 😂 but Audrey would be fine 👍
Now Michael, I’m worried about how your going to put your table in there so you can put you’re coffee or jd on it……….🤣🤣🤣🤣. Lovely piece of kit (the hammock that is 🤭)
Interested to see how this is over a period of time...especially how it copes, with rain when it changes direction a bit. Shame the hammock and accessories aren't in camo too....that would definitely make it more desirable.....I like to blend in as much as possible to my surroundings, even with no tarp
I think when it's in storm mode you'll be pretty well covered. Cant see anywhere rain would get in but only time will tell. Will definitely be using it a lot more over the coming months. Already done two camps in it using this tarp and another and its worked really well 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper I'm guessing if it does, it'll be at the ends. But will be looking out yo see how you get on with it buddy. Keep up the hammock videos, not nearly enough new ones in here and always a joy to watch
Anyone who lives somewhere with mosquitoes will not appreciate the fact that they didn't do double zippers on the mosquito net. There is only one zipper on either side of the nets so you have to open it all the way up. I spent the first night in mine last night, and I had to grab something off the ground underneath my hammock. I had to open half the bug screen up just to get to what I needed and I let in about 30 mosquitoes in the meantime. On any of my Hennessy style hammocks, they are double zippered which allows you to unzip a small portion to reach out and get anything off the ground or outside the hammock. Serious failure right off to get go. It seems like their only concern was the ability to remove the bug screen. Also, with a bit of movement flipping back and forth from your stomach or side, the bug screen zipper will start to work its way down opening a gap. Gnats, no-see ums, and mosquitoes became a problem from that as well. There is a good chance that my brand new hammock will be sold shortly. I waited a long time to buy one of these, very disappointing.
That's a shame. I agree about the zippers though. Haven't found it the best in my usage so far. Also gets very tight to do up sometimes and comes adrift. We get mozzies here too when the weather is right for them and midges which are a nightmare.
@@NoviceWildCamper you are right about them being tight sometimes. I was worried once or twice that I was going to tear something when I was zipping it up.
What happens if it rains heavenly, is it water proof in the ends/connections 😊I see a lot of hammock people having those issues Great review Best regards
The ends are protected from the rain however I habe swapped the standard tarp out for a proper hammock one to give more space otherwise you have nowhere to cook etc. With the small tarp supplied. They have made it so you can now order without a tarp so can save some money and choose a tarp that suits you 👍
Thanks shelley. It's the flextail Pro 2 pump. Not the tiny. Bigger but so much more powerful and very quick to pump up. The tiny pump takes around 2 minutes to pump a standard size mat but the pro takes 20 seconds to pump my large xl mats up plus it has a power bank so can charge phones in an emergency along with the usual light too. 👍
Great video Mike. By any chance do you know the dimensions of the standard sleep pad and the Xl sleep pad? Just wondering if my own winter pad will fit. Cheers!
XL pad is 203cm x 76cm standard model is 189cm x 61cm. I don't think they sell it without a pad though. Although I'd still go for the larger version just for the extra interior space 👍
Is that the USA or Europe site? I can't see the option on the europe site. Great if you can then you can save yourself a bundle of your pad works with it 👍

@@NoviceWildCamper Crikey! Sounds a bit mental. Look forward to seeing the vid then. I haven't had any forest/woods camps since Storm Arwen - most of the places I used to pitch up in got flattened and what's left I wouldn't trust. Hopefully these two latest storms will fell the last of the unsafe trees.
Fwiw mate, a “banana” shaped hammock is a myth and wholly depends on how you actually lie in one: and we’re referring to “gathered end” style hammocks. For a flat lay in a gathered end hammock it would need to be long and wide enough for you to lie on a diagonal. If it’s too short or too narrow you would be unable to lie diagonally, thusly forcing you into the banana position. Just an fyi.
I know, but you can't lay diagonal, then turn on your side, then your front etc. I toss and turn all night so would never work in any standard hammock from all the videos and reviews I've seen. This and the Amok are really the knit true flat lay where its like a bed or tent style flat lay where you can move around like that. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper agreed on the stomach sleeping point, but I’ve found it perfectly doable to lie on my side comfortably in all of my gathered end hammocks (Dutch and Dream Hammock 11 footers).

As much as I appreciate the review and you’ve got a great presence on camera! So great work there. It’s frustrating to see you go from no I can’t get one to highly recommending one which is absolutely going to be influenced by the fact that it’s free to you. Most likely this is jealousy on my part lol but it’s really annoying!! You couldn’t justify the cost yourself but can when you’re essentially paid to? Rant over. No offence intended 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It's not so much that I couldn't afford one but as this is my hobby I have to justify what I spend due to family commitments and to review lots of gear I'd need to buy lots of similar equipment which just isn't justifiable. Luckily I am in a position now where I do get equipment sent to me and although I really wanted to start hammocking I just couldn't justify that amount of money on something I may not like. I know its very frustrating to see people get free gear when you habe to buy it yourself but if they didn't then we wouldn't see as many reviews and of course youtube is open to anyone to try but believe me it's hard work. Even getting free gear sometimes, its a lot of pressure when you try to be fair on your review. Saying all that, if I knew then what I know now I would definitely buy one 👌👍
That's odd. Just tried getting on the European site and it is just glitching. Went on the USA site and it says it doesn't ship to europe though and directed you to Europe site 🤔 odd. Might be a temporary problem.
@@NoviceWildCamper I have been messaging with their Support team (because of the Euro site glitch) - they confirmed that shipments to UK are now from US but they are "working on getting a UK distributor but don't anticipate it actually happening until next year sometime". I will regrettably wait it out as I can't stomach £ 150 on shipping / import fees / service charge.
That's odd. I had it in my basket earlier this year from the European site. Maybe there's an issue with the site and possibly due to what's going on in Ukraine? I'll check with my contact.
They've responded that only as of 3 days ago they had to change it due to warehouse issuesnand brexut problems apparently. They are hoping to get it back up and running in a month or so.
18:55 that noise is bigfoot. Your invading his territory. He come and visit you at night. Thankfully you have a tent that can go high in the trees IF you want to get away from the larger animals like big foot. THO he may throw stones and branches at your tent.
Can't please everyone. And you cant lay properly flat in any other hammock apart from the Amock. I see people do short reviews then get berrated that they don't include enough detail. 🤷🏼♂️ And if you watched it fully you'd see I justify the price with the cost of a winter mat. 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper It's true, we can't always have it all. By the way, I'm about to get into the hammock thing too but, are hammocks naturally used with air mattresses or you just included it 'cos you can? I remember in movies, hammocks are use just like that, people would hop into them without even cloths on, opps! I'm kidding, I mean, without mattresses. How are they used normally?
Virtually no hammocks are.designed for an air mattress but the Haven and the Amok are. Its there for wonter protection, comfort and rigidity of a flay kay hammock. They both come with pads and are designed to be used with pads. If you winter hammock camp then you will need insulation under you as your sleeping bag down will be flattened providing no insulation from the cold. Most hammockers use under quilts then a sleeping bag or another quilt on top. An under quilt can cost anything from £100 to £300 plus depending on the quality and temp levels. If you only summer camp then yes, just hop in a standard hammock and you'll be fine however you won't get a flat lay, can't lay on your side or front where you can with the Haven and Amok. Plus you habe tons of space inside these to put your gear rather than leave it on the floor to get nibbled on by mice or god knows what amd you aren't pinched at the head and foot end like a normal hammock. Hence, gamechanger 👍

You’ve sold me this product Mike… yes me… a Hilleberg snob who dines out at Sourton Burger King 🤣 🍔 Can’t wait to see you’re first camp in it… ATB, Mark 😉👍🏻
@Welsh Mark's Wild Camping cheers Mark. Will be up tomorrow night. 👍
It looks very nice, a bit like a floating house with the tarp over the top. A good all-round review. Thanks Michael.
Thansk Rachel. Had a great night in it Wednesday 👍
And yes using as a chair cab be painful after a while as it cuts into your legs but I just put a jacket or something under my legs and this stops it 👍
very good on Haven tents, I am really interested in their new version and thanks for all you testing.
Thanks Jim. Yes it was really good of them. Hoping to get out again in it tomorrow night 👍
Great review, just ordered one with the discount code ( cheers for that) can't wait to give it a try.
Thanks John. It is an absolutely awesome piece of kit. Can't wait to get out in it again 👍
I'm an avid hammock camper but I would love to try one of these out
It'd a great hammock. Not perfect but close.
@@NoviceWildCamper thanks mate, I’ll give those a look. We get some occasionally wild weather, and not always predictable.
Love to see that 👍
I might have misheard so I'll apologise first, I'm in my tent with the wind going 🎪😂
I think you said you can't lie on your side in an amok hammock, you can I do.
To be honest I've stopped using the tarp. I use a onewind tarp now as it's so much bigger and better than the Haven one 👍
Looks a great bit of kit Mike .
Look forward to seeing you field test it.
Atb Graham
Cheers Graham. Was out Wednesday in a storm. Best sleep I've ever had 👌👍
Looks great!! Hope you have fun hanging around :-) The only problem I fear is finding places you can use it, and maybe the weight? Looks comfy though!
Cheers Col. Yeah bigger tarp would work well 😉 thanks buddy 👍
Looks brilliant, defo on the Christmas list 👌
It's an awesome set up. Adding the onewind tarp helps in certain situations though. 👍
very helpful. thank you! great demo and explanation. i will definitely get one.
Cheese Philip 👍🙏
That looks a great hammock and I totally get why you explain all the costs at the beginning the only thing I don't like is the sides are canny low and you would feel the wind coming through other than that I really like it the tarp I wouldn't use with the hammock but it would be a good tarp for stealth camping atvb jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Well I had it out on Wednesday but with a larger tarp. In a storm as well 😂 was absolutely fine but with the original you wouldn't feel anything if it was tied down against the sofa in storm mode 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper it looks class I suffer with a bad back and knees that's why I ground dwell more 😎😎👍👍
This video kinda makes me sad I forgot about the kickstarter that I obviously missed out on.
True. Ordering separates should be the way forward. Specially if you damage a part and need to order another separately.
@@NoviceWildCamper get your ass up to my woodland in the spring time for a collab hammock camp 👍
Definitely 👍
Cheers taff. I'm loving it so far. Been on a few camps with it now and it's so comfy and all my gear fits inside at night. 👍
I'm no hammock fan, but it looks nice for sure. Enjoy!
First time ever and I'm hooked!!! 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper Thanks! Perhaps the people who make it should consider it in the next version…
I'll have a word 👍
Nice bit of kit - good vid
Well done
Atb 👍🏽
Cheers dave. Cant wait to get it out.... again 👍
@@NoviceWildCamper I could get the dog in that ( Normal hammocks are too tight for the dog !! )

Lovely piece of kit (the hammock that is 🤭)
😂 oi oi. I had the table next to me outside but I'm already designing a.specoal one for hammocks 👍🤫

Great video, I love my haven xl hammock.
What jacket is that you are wearing? Looks really nice.
Greeting from Denmark.
Thanks buddy. Its a mountain equipment jacket. Absolutely awesome jacket for the price. Highly recommend it. 👍
Mine popped out one night, went back ok but they're definitely too tight.
Really like the look of that. Its like a modern version of my Russian army hammock. 👍
I'll have to have a look at that 👍
What happens if it rains heavenly, is it water proof in the ends/connections 😊I see a lot of hammock people having those issues
Great review
Best regards
The ends are protected from the rain however I habe swapped the standard tarp out for a proper hammock one to give more space otherwise you have nowhere to cook etc. With the small tarp supplied. They have made it so you can now order without a tarp so can save some money and choose a tarp that suits you 👍

Nice review, what was the pump you were using?
Thanks shelley. It's the flextail Pro 2 pump. Not the tiny. Bigger but so much more powerful and very quick to pump up. The tiny pump takes around 2 minutes to pump a standard size mat but the pro takes 20 seconds to pump my large xl mats up plus it has a power bank so can charge phones in an emergency along with the usual light too. 👍
Great job
Cheers buddy 👍
Did you ever find out what that noise was?!
No. Nearest I could find was a big cat. The only thing that sounds like that guttural growl.
What is that howling siren sound?
I couldn't work out what it was. Sounded mechanical made but who knows.
@@NoviceWildCamper thanks for that! On the website you can select the pad colour or no pad at all. Can also select no rain fly.

£420 less $20 on your first purchase all in so around £400. They're not cheap bjt that's because of our taxes. Under $300 in the states. Bear in mind you get the pad too.
It does look good but there is no way my pack would fit in there 😂😂 but I do like the idea of this set up😁👍
Maybe 😂 wait till you see the next vid. Be surprised how much space there is with the bag inside. 👍

Ahhhh man!!!! Lol 😆
Import taxes etc roughly £60+
Yeah about that.
Haven have STOPPED taking UK orders from the European site. Instead you must order from the US. Making the XL £ 400+ with shipping and import duty.

Haven calls it a hammock. You bloke's call it a tent.
@mikekupetsky6879 wrong way round. Haven call it a tent. Their company is called 'Haventents' my video is even titled Haven Hammock 🤣
You wish this overpriced thing was a game changer. Your videos are good but, if only you could make them shorter and a lil bit quicker to the point.
