    I don't think I'd ever get into the editing game but I am so glad you put in that part about charging at least $50/hour! It is such an issue of every industry where people accept below what they're worth and it negatively impacts everyone else. Thank you!!! 💕

      Actually, it doesn't. There is a psychological factor, people tend to pay more as we believe we are paying for better quality. And in the case of decent people it is true as we pay money for extra courses to improve our skills, we pay with our time to get experience and we deserve to be paid for our hard work. Smart clients for sure understand it and they are willing to pay as they feel they can trust you with their product, and trust is rare nowadays and paid well.

    Awesome video, and subbed 😊 I’m a graphic designer yet it was still really interesting to me. I have a TH-cam and have the video editing skills and was curious whether to start freelancing in that area as well. Even tho video editing can be so time consuming! Some ppl don’t understand it can take 10-20hrs for one video 😭. I relate to you as I’m also Australian, and my boyfriend is also a musician like yours 😆 I have a slightly unrelated question but how is your bf finding being a musician in Melbourne? the Aus music scene is a struggle at the moment and we’re wondering whether to relocate there at some point. Thank you 💙

    • @scrivspo
      @scrivspo  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Melbourne scene is great in terms of live music, loads of gigs on all the time. In terms of paid cover gigs (like weddings etc) it’s much more seasonal here so it’s not super good atm. DM me or ethan if you need more detail!

It’s seriously so exciting to hear that this can be a viable career path, it honestly sounds like a dream job. Do you have a system for storage? • @scrivspo
      @scrivspo  หลายเดือนก่อน

  • @hannahmattner
    @hannahmattner หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I’ve another question for you! What is the average turnaround time for you to give them a first draft after receiving footage, along with how quickly do your clients to give feedback for those drafts? I’ve a client that takes weeks to get back to me sometimes and it’s so hard to stay motivated to work with them. I need a revised contract for sure, but I’d love to know if those things are also in your contract!

    • @scrivspo
      @scrivspo  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My average turnaround time from receiving the footage can vary, when they send me a link to the footage I tell them when I’m editing it (eg. “I’ve booked you in for Thursday so I’ll send you the first draft then”). I find this a good way to work because they know what to expect. In my info sheet I tell them I can do a 48 hour turnaround time but I prefer not to work this way.
      When it comes to revisions, I have 3 revisions which is in my contract. When it comes to timing of that, I find they never drag it out because it bleeds into their next video for the retainer and they’ll end up losing a video that month. That’s why a monthly retainer is so good.
      I’m sorry to hear you’re stuck in that position 😭😭 definitely implement a retainer if you can, it should mitigate most of those issues

    Thank you so much, this was fascinating! I have another question if you’re interested for your next video: (especially given your love for Chad 😂), do you think AI will ever be capable of editing videos and make your job obsolete? It’s hard to think of future-proof careers in 2024!

    • @scrivspo
      @scrivspo  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey hey! AI can already edit video podcasts (which is insane), the way I hope it will go is it aids editors in speeding up their process, possibly by doing the rough cut for us. But there are so many things you need creative decision making for (which parts to remove, when someone’s waffling on, etc) which I’m not sure if AI will be able to do. Maybe!! We’ll see hahaha

    What would u say if a youtuber wants to pay you less as they are a smaller youtuber and doesn’t make as much money (do u except or not) but also if they are a larger youtuber with let’s say 1M+ subscribers do you charge them more than you normally do bc they would be making more money or just stay at your set price?
    (if that makes sense lol)

    • @DiogoBoinho
      @DiogoBoinho หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Of course, price yourself not only for your skills but for the client and the responsability that comes with it. More people will see the client with 1M subs, more pressure on your shoulders to make it better and not miss. Premium prices for premium clients.

    • @scrivspo
      @scrivspo  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I base my price around the workload not around the client! You never know how much money someone has eg. A small TH-camr might work full time as a lawyer and have a lot of expendable income, equally a large TH-camr might get all their views from shorts and make minimal money from the platform. I try to be as flexible as possible to work within someone’s budget but at the end of the day my price is my price!!
