Seems like to be good at self-employment, you need to have self-respect and self-worth and it's really evident you have a lot!! Your assertiveness and discipline is actually inspiring!
Awww this is so sweet! You definitely have to back yourself when you’re self employed, otherwise you’ll get walked all over lol
@scrivspo it's hard to be assertive but definitely harder to not be able to pay rent lol. Good on you Harriet!
This comment has inspired me ❤
my job is far away from yours. i know nothing about editing. but harriet has a new video - i click.
Same!
what would i do without you guys!?!
I love this video! I’m a full time software engineer but am fascinated what other careers look like. Thank you for sharing with others!
❤️❤️❤️
Full time data engineer checking in! Agreed, I’m such a snoop and so intrigued by everyone’s careers!
Thank you Harriet for sharing your life with us!
Your advice and showing how you work as a freelancer is so interesting and really informative! I really appreciate how your videos are not just entertaining, but also informative and bringing value to us.
aww this is so sweet, i'm so glad you enjoyed!
I think editing is the hardest thing in the world so I respect you for that
Thank you ❤️❤️
I appreciate how you engage with your viewers in the comment section. It shows that you value their thoughts and opinions.
Always!! ❤️❤️
Second this ❤
this is a great video and thank you so much for being honest about how it took 2 years to find that first job
Of course ❤️❤️❤️
This seems like a good set up to have from your process of editing and doing check ins to the boundaries you’ve got so you still get paid but you also don’t have to yell at anyone and having contracts so everyone knows what’s happening. I would try the job out myself but I don’t think I’d be cut out for it haha.
It’s definitely not for everyone!! ❤️❤️
This is such a cool video Harriet! I'm not planning on being a freelancer in the near future, but its soooooo inspiring and interesting to hear a BUSINESS WOMAN explain how she does it
and also........man I wish the US had universal healthcare lol
Omg I wish the US had universal healthcare too 😭😭😭 I feel so bad for you guys
Not an editor, but I am working toward my dream of writing and publishing a book--I totally get needing to create your own routines & boundaries. Thank you for sharing about your career experience!
Omg I’m so so proud of you for writing a book, I’m trying to do the same in my spare time and it’s so fkn hard hahaha
Love the story! I've been editing with Content creators over the past 5 years and your workflow is amazing!
Aw yay!!
Thanks for the realism and honesty. Really helpful video, especially for new youtubers
So so happy you found it helpful!!

This was such an interesting video!! I really enjoy the types of videos you make
yayy this makes me so happy!
Absolutely loved learning more about this part of your life! Definitely inspired me to get back to editing again, I used to love it! x
Yayyyy you should!!!
Great video! I always love learning more about what a career in content creation looks like for different people and just learning about others’ creative jobs and processes. Thanks for sharing, I’m studying graphic and I think there are definitely some things I can apply from this! Hope this video finds more creatives 😊
Aw yay so happy you liked it ❤️❤️❤️

❤️❤️❤️❤️
This video is so good!!! Thank you for sharing
So happy you enjoyed!!!
This was so helpful for me! I love the video editing aspect of TH-cam so much! When I first tried working with people, my first few clients pretty much everything for practically no money. It was very frustrating. I've also had trouble pricing myself in the past. After watching this, I'm tempted to try again :)
Yesss you should! People will always try to take advantage unless you advocate for yourself. You got this!!
hey girl! i've been an editor for a few creators for 3 years now but this video was still sooo helpful! thank you for the wonderful tips :)
Aw yay I’m so happy you found it helpful!!!
This was so helpful! Your editing timeline is goals 😭 My process is ao opposite and honestly probably why it takes me so long. I love that you've found a way to make it so quick!
i'm curious about your process!!!!
wow!! this is an amazing video Harriet! I’m a freelancer too, I do social media for small businesses and I really want to get into freelance editing as well. This video helped me a lot, you are extremely disciplined- which I really need to focus on being too🥺 thank youu for this video🧡
i promise you despite how it may look, i am not very disciplined hahaha. i try my best but just know if you're procrastinating etc you are definitely not alone
This was so inspiring! I've thought about having a career in editing but have felt overwhelmed by it all and always figured I'd need a degree to even get any credible work. Thanks for helping to shift my mindset :)
You have got this!!! ❤️
Thanks! The detail in this was so great! I definitely want to do exactly what you are doing in a few years. I love editing but don't love filming myself as much anymore, so I'm hoping to make the switch at some point 😊
You have got this!!!
Yay new video! 🎉
Yayy hope you enjoy!!
Thank you for this video. I have my own small channel & I always learn something new from your videos. Super appreciate the transparency and realness. 🩷
Awww yay I’m so happy this was helpful!!!
Good morning Harriet happy Tuesday morning and I loved your vlogs and you are amazing Supporter and I'm proud of you
Thanks Edward!!!
loved watching this thank you for sharing more!! I'm in a post production (editing) program for film and tv and I've always thought about doing freelance TH-cam editing when I'm done! :)
You absolutely should!!
Okay this was a FASCINATING video!! I am so into BTS content. Thank you for this!
So happy you enjoyed!!!
as an editor myself I can't ever find any TH-camr with a similar job to mine, so happy to have come across this video and would love for you to make more content involving your work
Yaaayyy ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Such a great video, tfs 😊
So happy you enjoyed them!!
I am so curious , how are you able to create such engaging content , be consistent on your own socials and be able to grow as a freelance editor ? Honestly this was a big motivator ❤
Stop this is so lovely 😭 balance is hard and I’m definitely still working on it!!!
Very interessting and helpful! Thank you 😊
You’re welcome!!
loved finding out more about this !! i would love to be a freelancer but not in video editing,, idk where to start
What do you wanna freelance in? Start practicing and building up a portfolio!! Xx
@@scrivspo sewing,, making custom clothes or helping people with sewing something like that !! i am definitely practicing the most i can and ive made an insta account as a portfolio but its harder to grow insta accounts w the constantly changing algorithm
Love you❤❤❤
Love YOU
Love this I love editing I’m a creator and have done social media management creating content and editing❤
amazing!! so happy you liked it!
I see you reading Red Rising!!! great book highly rec!!!
i've finished it and LOVED IT!!!
Make more videos like these please. Very helpful.
what else would you want to see?
It's not really boundaries, it's a subscription for editing. It makes total sense.
Love this!!!
I just randomly landed on this video and I really enjoy your break down and how you express yourself. Thanks for putting out content 🔥 🫒
yayyy so happy you liked it!
love this. so inspiring ❤. i’m def interested in upskilling and improving my edits. do you have recommendations on using music? still navigating the copyright/license landscape
so happy you enjoyed! i use epidemic sound (my client has a subscription as well to avoid copyright issues) but youtube has a great free audio library!
@@scrivspo awesome, thanks!
I'd love to see some tips and tricks of editing. Like titles and graphics, etc. I'm pretty well versed with everything you said, but I do see a lot of graphics in videos that I wonder where they came from. Lot's of people use canva and just capcut for a lot.
Maybe I’ll make an updated editing video at some point! I have two old ones on my channel x
Can you link where you got your necklace from? I've been looking for 1 for a while but I'm always scared to buy them. But yours looks so cute. 🫶🐰😇
hi lovely! this one is old from Samantha Wills I believe!!
I absolutely love this video and as a video editor myself I relate to everything you said. I would love to connect! Been wanting to find more women in youtube video editing to befriend :)
❤️❤️❤️ so happy you enjoyed!!!
totally interested in editing for people and I've always wondered how the process actually worked
Hope this was helpful!!
Hi, great video, I was wondering how many clients can you usually take on before being overworked?
Since I have my own youtube channel, I try to stick with 1-2!
But if I was able to work actual full time hours I could take on 3-4
Do you have any tips on learning how to edit? I'm currently trying to get into it so any tip is helpful🥰
i know it's sponsored but definitely do the free Skillshare trial, there's sooo much amazing info on there. other than that, just film some random bits of your day and practice editing it in a bunch of different ways. if there's an effect you want to try but you don't know how to do it, jump on youtube/skillshare/google and figure out how to do it. practice really is key!!!
Intriguing. Hmmm ….. now you’ve got me thinking lol
Hehehehe
informative nice sharing
Hope you enjoyed!!
hi can you please give me tips & recommendations on music? like what sites & apps to use to avoid any copyright issues.
I use epidemic sound!
@@scrivspo thank you for responding 🥺🤍
soooooooo curious as to who you edit for aha
i'm so sorry i know it's probably annoying! a lot of clients don't want their audience to know they have an editor so out of respect for them i keep it private!! xx
really informative video, I am a television video editor who has started making TH-cam videos myself, have you done or seen any videos that talk about what top video editors can make in the TH-cam space?
Honestly no not really! The ceiling is pretty endless if you’re able to find large clients but usually you have to prove yourself a bit first in the TH-cam space!!
@@scrivspo okay sounds good. If Indont have samples do you think I could just use my own videos as a sample? Or is that a bad idea?
Oh, great video! I appreciate your honesty; it really helps me. I have a few questions:
1. Are you creating thumbnails for your clients?
2. And are you watching some analytics of TH-cam to leverage the TH-cam videos? Or are you responsible for analytics or viewers' subscribers?
3. Is it possible to see a "preview" of your info sheets and an example of your Google Form? I know it's your personal, maybe just a sneak peek? Or maybe directly on Instagram? I'm in a rat race :( Thanks a lot.😍🥰🤩
Hey lovely!
1. Yes, for one of my clients thumbnails are included in the monthly retainer
2. I just edit the videos, the clients are responsible for their concepts/views/analytics. If they want TH-cam strategy they have to book that separately
3. I’m not against sharing but it’s all very specific to me and the way I work, so I don’t think it’s really helpful! The info sheet includes my turnaround times, a general idea of how work and what I hope they can give me to make my workflow more efficient. The Google form helps me find out things like what genres of music they like, links to channels they want to emulate, favourite videos they’ve made etc!
@@scrivspo 🥰 Thank you
Hi! Do your clients expect more complex motion graphics in your work? And if so, would you charge it differently if you had to make them from scratch?
Hey lovely! I don’t really do motion graphics, I can do basic stuff in my editing program but I send them to an SFX person if they need anything know complicated x
But if I had the skills I would absolutely charge them extra for it!!
What computer or specs would you recommend for a beginner TH-camr who will be doing their own editing? I've found I'm struggling with editing as I don't have a proper computer (I've slowly been editing on my ipad), and all the computer information out there feels overwhelming though 😓
Oooohhh I am not the right person to ask lmao I asked chat GPT which iMac I should get - I’d talk to chat GPT about your specific needs and budget and it will help you better than I ever could!!!
@@scrivspo haha I wouldn't of thought of that, I'll give it a try!
I have never edited or really even filmed a video but I have a question; do you edit the picture and sound separately?😄
You can do either! But it’s generally easier to edit them together
When you have a music subscription, usually they let you add the channel you are working with there so they don't get copyrighted right? But what if the client stops working with you? Does it put their channel at risk? Do you have recommendations for music subscriptions?
Hey lovely! I use epidemic sound as that is what I personally pay for, my clients also have their own subscription so it doesn’t get flagged! If I didn’t have it, I would just use the TH-cam Music Library or I would ask my clients to pay for Epidemic and give me their log in to use for their videos ❤️ hope that helps!
I’m a freelance video editor for more corporate style videos but I’m so interested in finding TH-camrs to work with!
Did you create your contract yourself or did you find a template?
Hey lovely! I believe I mention this in the Q&A (I hope I did hahaha) but I found a template on google and tweaked it myself xx
Based on your editing I’m getting Fernanda Ramirez vibes, you definitely could be her editor, if you’re not already 😉😉
Aww you’re the sweetest, I’m not her editor but she’s great!
Hey there, great tips, but I wanted to ask, if I reach out to TH-camrs I would love to work for, do I send them an email only once, or is it if I don't hear from them, that it means I need to pass?
I would send one email, then follow up in a week or two, and then move on!
That's great, Thanks a lot😍@@scrivspo
❤
🥰🥰
Im currently working with an influencer but im not sure how to expand my client base as well as fairly price myself. I am charging so little for so much work, dont know how to get around that
You honestly just have to find another client and pitch yourself higher or raise your rates with your current client!!
Do you take any more clients?😁
Not at the moment I’m sorry!!
Very useful video, I would pay for a template of your info sheet (How you work) and an agreement (Contract) this would save so much time hassle and burn out.
If I ever decide to sell a template I will definitely let you know!!!
Can anyone tell me which is the website she is talking about to find jobs?
it's ytjobs.com :)
@@scrivspo thank you!!
Editor from Australia mentioned everything but DaVinci Resolve!😀
I just don’t use it!
Great video! Would love to know more about how you edit your own videos, fonts etc as your style is lovely! Newbie TH-camr over here 💫 I'm also on the hunt for an editor if anyone is interested 💚
Thank you so much angel!! I have made 2 videos years ago on editing, I’ll consider doing an updated one soon! Good luck on your journey ❤️❤️
@@scrivspo thank you! That would be amazing 🤍 I’ll watch those two aswell ✨
I’ve always wanted to to do this so I can’t thank you enough for showing the BS (behind the scenes) I’m so grateful! I had no idea how to go about it and this would help immensely! 1:56 ❤️🔥❤️🔥
So happy this helped!!!
@@scrivspo honestly thank you so much and it definitely did! 🫶☺️
