- Martin Necas scored the game-tying goal with less than a second left, and Sebastian Aho scored an incredible overtime winner as part of his hat trick to help the Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4.

Aho really stepping up to fix their scoring issues! What a player.
Great comeback by the canes but should not have been necessary. A little disappointed given our performance lately, but very glad I got a show! Hats off to Aho!
Lost to the Leaf's, just barely beat the Flyers, Canes aren't going far in the playoffs.

Melrose was definitely loaded, which was both amusing and sad at the same time, and pretty distracting because I kept imagining he was taking a swig from a flask during those long, awkward silences. "I lost a tooth today"...lol I wonder how.
Okay so it wasn't just me. I like Barry a lot, but man something was off. At one point he just blurts out "Carolina has lost its mojo," but it was early in the game when the Canes were playing really good. There were several similar bizarre comments during the broadcast.

Freddy’s been letting too many soft goals in and that awful give away leading to an empty net goal was painful. At least the Canes won but god Freddy is not having a good year.
No he's not but I also have no idea what Burns and Slavin were doing on that play cause both go behind and leave the front wide open , And Pesce/Skeji need to stop getting caved in defensively every game . I don't care if you put prime Patty Roy in there we can't give up the kinds of homerun chances and 2 on 1's /breakaway over and over and expect to win even against the worst teams .
@@rosariocannistraro3561 sure the defense played bad today too but Freddy let in some pretty soft goals which he has been doing a lot recently. Also he gave up a goal when it was very clear he should have stayed in the crest.

Aho, as usual. 6 straight games without a point with -7, then a super game..Here comes the drought again. I'm finnish and was so hyped for Sebastian but he is letting himself down way to often.

@@Colith1 no real moves at the deadline, down they’re two best pure scorers, defense looks worse than it has at any point under Brind-Amour (even Slavin is getting beat this year), they never handle the physicality of the playoffs well, and they’re most consistent goalie is always hurt (Raanta). If I’m wrong I’ll admit it, and if you’re wrong I’ll wait for the I was right.
@@EveryTimeIDavid It isn't the physicality of the playoffs that is causing issues for the Hurricanes.
Last year Raanta got hurt in the second round series against the Rangers in game 6. Kotchetkov played poorly as his replacement. Beyond that Carolina was struggling to score in a series in which they otherwise technically outplayed the Rangers. In the 1st round against the superior Bruins Carolina found offense in an otherwise closer series. The fact that Carolina couldn't score despite generally outplaying the Rangers is what caused Carolina to lose the series. Had Carolina been able to score at a rate comparable to how they were outplaying the Rangers there wouldn't have been a game 6 and Raanta wouldn't have gotten hurt in said game 6.
The year prior Ned let in a number of soft goals against the Lightning when Carolina was otherwise technically outplaying Tampa most of the series. They were out hitting and generally out playing Tampa. Had Ned not let in a number of soft goals in the series Carolina would have likely won that series.
The year prior Carolina just couldn't score against the Bruins in what otherwise was a close series against Boston with Boston having the edge. Yes, Boston won the series 4-1 but that is a very disingenuous representation of how close the games in the series actually were. Carolina played a lot better in this series than they did against Boston last year.
2018-19 Boston steamrolled Carolina. Boston was clearly the superior team. It wasn't that Carolina wasn't physically ready as they matched Boston's physicality. It was that Carolina's best players were young and still developing. Carolina's best players just weren't as polished as Boston's were.
As for the defense looking the worst it has ever been under Brind'Amour you are either naive or blind. Since the new year Carolina has been the best defensive team, in terms of team statistical metrics, in the NHL period. Their issue isn't their D play in the slightest. Their issue is spotty goaltending, where they are average since the new year. If Carolina could get some good goaltending to go with its NHL best defensive play it might be up there with Boston in the rankings even with the offense otherwise not being as good as it was last year.

2nd round, probably? Unless something catastrophic happens. I just don't see the offense or goaltending being good enough to carry them.

Anyone notice it was 0.0 before the puck had even crossed the crease?
The TV clock isn’t completely synced to the game clock. Looking at the clocks tracked by the refs and the net it was clear the buck crossed at .3 and not after time ran out.
It clocked showed on the display is different from the game clock. It was started before the puck was even dropped by whoever was running the display.
Yeah, the tv clock definitely started early. It likely should have started when it was at ~5.9 seconds. That means the clock needs to be 0.0 for 1.1 seconds before the buzzer. We can count how many frames elapse from it hitting zero (press the . key to go frame by frame on a desktop) and the puck crossing the line which is 36 frames (favoring the Canes since the view is obstructed).
1.1 seconds * 30 frames per seconds = 33 frames. 33 frames - 36 frames = -3 frames. This means the game clock was likely started too late and the goal shouldn't count.
Tough loss for the Flyers, but I'm a Canes fan as well so it's all gravy for me.
