Exactly. Even in nicer restaurants, baked pasta dishes liked baked ziti, lasagna, etc can never be made to order -- they're always prepped and reheated. Any pasta sitting in a steam table is going to be totally overcooked; there's no culinary magic to make it good.
Great series of reviews. Funny i was just thinking about Sbarro the other day trying to remember what they sold other than pizza . Been 10 years since i ate there . Keep doing these declining chain reviews . Very enjoyable. I loved Boston Market chicken and enjoyed fuddrucker burgers
I'm originally from Panama (the country), we had some locations from them on the malls and they were kinda popular. Last time I went back home I saw there's only one location open! Mainly targetted to people driving through the area for a quick bite. I have never been there, after seeing this, I don't think it's worth going lol.
The problem with Sbarro in the Philippines, besides the price, is that they half cook their pizzas then put them out for customers to buy by the slice. Once the pizza slice is put back into the oven, it becomes overly crisp and tastes reheated.
Kind of wish you had reviewed the Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips instead. I think you could count all of the existing Arthur Treacher's left on your hands and still have fingers left over. The last one I saw was in Atlantic City and was also sharing space with Nathan's, but that location closed down years ago. I always thought Arthur Treacher's was much better than Long John Sawdust's and was sad to see them vanish
True. It was better priced way back in the day though. I put it's uh, "quality" slightly above Little Caesars but it costed a bit more...but you could just get one slice.
There’s still a location at 33rd street near penn station. The pizza slices are $5.99 which is already absurd but $7.29 is absolutely crazy. The food is mediocre but somehow as a kid I liked it more lol. Thanks for another great and unique video.
They vanished in the Detroit Metro area. The cheese is old cheese, it's allowed to stand under heat lamps, for who knows how long. and dries out the cheese.
I think what you said about it not being bad or particularly great is fairly accurate, but their prices have also been crazy for what it is, and I'm actually shocked how much you paid per slice.
You know, when I first saw the pizza and pasta that was being prepared, I was going: that looks great. Idc how floppy I’ll eat it with a fork. But 30$!! My jaw dropped seeing that. You can literally get 2 costco pizzas, a hotdog and a drink, and a chicken bake for that, and still have change. That’s crazy!!!
6.59 for a plain slice of pizza?! What a complete scam. I'm honestly shocked that anyone would ever buy anything from there. Jersey has so many great pizza places. When you think about places like Domino's, the reason they can survive in Jersey despite being much lower quality is because they're cheap. $20ish average for a large plain pie from a regular Jersey place vs $7.99 for a large at Domino's. This though, you're giving more money for lower quality pizza.
I remember growing up in the 80's Sbarro was delicious. There was only one in my city at the mall, but in 80's I remember seeing middle aged and elder Italian guys working there. The last Sbarro I visited was in NYC located in Times Square, but I don't even know if it's still there.

Another entertaining review, quickly becoming a fan! Have you ever reviewed Goodman's Deli in Berkley Heights, NJ? Venerable place in the Elmora section of Elizabeth that moved to the suburbs some ears ago.
I had a good experience the last time I went to Sbarro about a year ago. The pizza wasn't sitting out too long and the guy did a good job on the reheat. It was solid fast food pizza.
My favorites at malls were pretzels, Orange Julius and Joann's nuthouse. They had fresh nuts, chocolates, licorice and other candies. I love Cinnabon, I hope they're still good 🤔
Sbarro was the place in the mall food court you ate at as a teen when you were craving pizza, but your mom didn't send you with enough to buy a Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza.
You probably got pizza and pasta that sat at the counter for a very long time (could be food from the day before). The dough being bread like and the cheese looking like it's string cheese are symptoms of that. The cheese is likely fake cheese which is why there is that nasty aftertaste to it.
I know Sbarro food is terrible, but i have great memories of the place growing up. My family didn’t have much money growing up and going to the mall on the weekend was a free day out for my family. But some how my mom and dad always had enough to get a slice for us to enjoy!
Sbarro has always been a weird animal, especially in Jersey. You really only go there when you've done a few hours in the mall, want pizza but are too tired to go somewhere else. And it's not horrible, just mediocre. Besides being stuck inside malls, they are so laughably expensive that it doesn't make sense to eat there.
I used to love Sbarro back in the 90s. The one I used to go to had a vertical serving station. You would tell them what you want theyd put the food up for you and youd wait in line with it and theyd ring you up. Me and my friends would wait till there was a big line, order our stuff and then just walk offline with it and sit down and start eating lol. We would always go there for free food and were never caught lol
I used to love sabarros, but I haven't had it in probably two decades. Also, it mostly failed because of the failing malls not because of the quality. Because the quality is better then most other fast food pizza joints.
I had the CEO of Sbarro personally make me a pizza at a concept restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, about ten years ago, and it was a terrible pizza. No joke.
I used to go to Sbarro when I went to the University of Minnesota in the early 2000s. They were never good, but it was fine for a quick slice at a reasonable price. Slightly better than Little Ceasars but it costed more.
On roadtrips the Spinach and Cheese strombolli at Sbarro was always a huge guilty pleasure. It's the only thing there I could actually recommend at menu price, except maybe the garlic breadsticks if they were fresh. Everything else, same story, it's so insanely overpriced for the quality even before the pandemic and their bankruptcies.
I have not had it since the 90s. I remember the massive size of the slices and the sweetness of the crust. Made a good mall lunch. For $3. think their management is just gougeing, smaller pizza, worse ingredients at a higher price. I had an opportunity to try it again. But seeing that price scared me off.
Apparently sbarro has some stand alone locations. It would be cool to do a follow up to this video and see if their non-mall locations have a difference in quality.
Great video. I feel the review would have been higher if you had gotten that free hot tomato sauce to melt that pasta cheese down, though. LOL, there is a reason to their madness. Their best item is the Spinach Calzone, but I am a mark to spinach. I hope they still make that.
I just looked up online prices at the few Sbarro’s remaining in the Phoenix area. Any slice is $5.55 (that includes the multi-ingredient slices), and there is a combo of any two slices with a large drink for under $12. Interestingly, ingredients in the pizza include San Marzano-style tomato sauce and 100% whole milk mozzarella 😅 Obviously prices vary across the country. Haven’t had it in probably 25 years.
Sbarro's was my favorite pizza out of the big fast-food chains but I haven't lived near one in years. It looks like it took a massive nosedive but it was still pretty great in the late 2000's.

I agree. Three dollars a slice is what I have willingly paid for a Sbarro slice 10-15 years ago.
Can you do Friendly’s or Quizno’s, please?
Bro got pasta from sbarro rip
Sbarro’s back in the 90’s was good, now they remind me of a low budget chucky cheese 😂😂😂
I had the CEO of Sbarro personally make me a pizza at a concept restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, about ten years ago, and it was a terrible pizza. No joke.
Sbarro was good back in 91, my mom used to buy us food from there when she worked at Bloomingdales at Roosevelt Field mall
Everything else, same story, it's so insanely overpriced for the quality even before the pandemic and their bankruptcies.
wow with prices like that they are done. Last time i got it made me never want it again and i was a Sabarro fan till the last one i went to.
dude it’s hilarious the way you hold your chin. great channel
This is one of those places that baffles me - how are they still open? There's always one or zero people inside
Many pizza places in North jersey
Offer a lunch specials
2 slices and a drink 5 bucks!
I love lunch specials.
They had one in my mall
But they closed down and my mall has essentially turned dead with more stores leaving it
The only time I really remember them was road trips back up north to MA. They were always at the rest stops on I95.
I used to go to the one in Woodbridge center mall in the 90s. They used to have pasta and clams on the menu that I liked
