I appreciate how you collect shells! Reminds me of a Stephen Wright joke, "I have a hobby. I have the world’s largest collection of sea shells. I keep it scattered on beaches all over the world. Maybe you’ve seen some of it."
Hi friend! Oh boy, I seem to get in a lot of trouble when I don't keep a great shell, lol! I can actually say that I don't have any full grown Queen's in my collection - only juveniles. Full grown adult shells are extremely heavy and can weigh your suitcase down quite a bit! I will say that when I was recently at St. Kitts on a cruise(video has been uploaded to this channel) - I took some time to find a nearby Queen Conch graveyard at the beach we were at, and grabbed a few beauties for the friends who I was traveling with, to take home for themselves! Thank you so much for watching!
@@solaceinshelling6552 not trouble, per say. Think of it more as the long-distance longing to be able to say “What? You’re not gonna take that?! Do you mind if I do then?” For that last shell, I’d pay heavy luggage fees! LOL
Hi friend, thank you so much for watching! I have quite a few Queen Conch's in my collection, but almost all are smaller ones. The large shells are beautiful, albeit so dang heavy!
Omg, such a gorgeous beach! That triton trumpet, &sunrise tellin were beautiful but that last queen conch was freaking amazing. I would have taken every one broken or not. I could stay on that beach all day just picking up tiny shells. Love this just wish your videos were longer. They end much to quickly!
Hello friend, thanks for the great feedback! I always try to make my videos as long as possible, but my goal in the end, is to focus on the quality over the quantity of viewing experience. It's definitely easier/quicker to edit footage that is simply more of a point of view perspective and without cinematic edits - there seems to be a few requests for this from some of my viewers, so I'll definitely consider adding something like that in the future! Happy shelling!
Such beautiful queen conchs of all sizes..how fun of course. What an opportunity to see these and the triton shell aaaahhh! Thank you the beach is beautiful
Hi friend - this place is highly recommended as a shelling destination! I have a couple more episodes worth of content from this trip - it's the best content, in my opinion. I will also be sharing some of the background inspiration for choosing this location to shell - stay tuned!
Amazing video. Thanks for sharing. I'm lucky enough to have a full perfect Triton Trumpet, queen conch, huge helmet and Ramone murex. Thanks to my dad picking them up as gifts for my mom and grandparents while on duty in the Navy. I appreciate the time you spend sharing your videos with us. Happy hunting.
Thanks for taking us on this journey, beautiful beach. I couldn't have left the Queens, they been through so many battles and won. Each one had so much character. Thanks again mister.
Hi friend! Each one did indeed possess a unique character, for sure! I wasn't originally going to use any of this footage for a specific upload, but when I reviewed it back I thought that there's a lot here to share that's meaningful! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for watching, friend! Queen Conch's were always on my bucket list when I was young, so I decided to dedicate some content to them specifically!
Wow those Queen Conch shells so beautiful as are the small shells too. It must be difficult to leave the shells behind especially if you find a perfect one.
Hi friend! Surprisingly, I actually don't take home much of what I film for this content. I will say that, what I do collect are either first time finds, or great specimens of a particular shell - those end up in my shell bag for sure! Thanks for watching!
😲 wow, what an amazing adventure!!!! Definitely a place on the bucket list for sure💕. I would totally be in trouble when it came to luggage check😜. Absolutely gorgeous 🥰.
Even though I live along the ocean in southern Oregon, my shelling adventures are usually in shell shops and second hand stores and have been able to find some really cool shells that people have relinquished to be resold. Wish I could look for shells along the beach here but not much to find. Love coming along on your adventures and I noticed a new gray bag you brought along...Thanx for yet one more wonderful shelling adventure!!!
Lucky! They are such an amazing shell to find, and even better when they are in great condition! I found a small Triton's Trumpet in Jamaica as well a few years ago. It had a small hole, but is a beautiful orange and red color. I'll actually be doing a video soon where I'll display, identify and clean up some of my Caribbean shells - stay tuned!
How can you leave this Humungous shells. You killing me. I love shells so much. Those are beautiful. Wish I could come right behind you and pick them up. As the saying goes, leave mo shell behind. Lol.
Hello friend! These shells are very heavy, lol. I am pretty selective with what I take with me now, but absolutely enjoy seeing these beauties on the beach! Thanks for watching!
I believe most of these were at some point harvested. Usually an earmark sign of harvesting is a small slit on the spire of the shell. Though I am not sure about the specimens with entire tops missing - it could also be that they were broken in rough weather when washing ashore. Thanks for watching!
Hi friend, great question! I have been working in operations for a couple different big tech companies throughout the years(you might occasionally see me wearing some branded material in my episodes🙂). I have been fortunate to have had pretty flexible time off through those opportunities. Most of the places in the US that I have visited are places I have either lived at and are in close proximity to(Maine, NY), or where I have family that resides (Florida). The more exotic destinations have been filmed over the past 3 years(since I started this channel). Going to these places takes much more homework and preparation - my secret is to travel on a well planned budget and pack everything in over the course of a few days. Thanks for much for watching and stay tuned - I'll be talking a little about my reason for choosing Turks and Caicos as a shelling destination in an upcoming episode!
I’m very happy for you! I am now retired ( at 61) and am very fortunate to be able to now have extended vacations! I love the places you travel to and am making Turks and Cacos one of my bucket list places! Thanks for always sharing your adventures!!! 👏🥰
You go such a long way, & at much expense for such short footage. I like tagging along with you. but I feel gypt when i watch cause it's too short. The slow music is relaxing and goes good with your footage, but when the beat speeds up, it's not solace anymore. You should aim for more like 25 minutes. Every time I watch , I like but, it's too short of a show, especially when it could be a longer show. More.... Give us more!
Hi friend! I appreciate the honest feedback! Since starting this channel, most of my content has been built around encapsulating a full experience at the beach. I also enjoy attempting to create a body of work I can share that tells a story through that experience. This is one of the ways I like to differentiate my content from other similar content. With all of that said, I do realize there's an appetite for longer shelling videos, so I will always keep this in mind! Thank you for watching!
Hello! I am pretty conservative with shells that I bring home with me(much of what I film I end up leaving on the beach). I have been to Turks and Caicos twice over the past few years, and did not have any issues taking home some shells(carefully packed) in my suitcase!
Your trips are always so amazing! You are a very well traveled young man. I love the beauties that you find. I would have a hard time leaving any! It is sad seeing the queen conch s dismembered or slit.
Hahaha! I love the "Shell Whisperer"! I have only traveled with juvenile Queen's in my suitcase(but have never had an issue in customs). Though I don't think it would be a problem to take one adult in your suitcase if you visit(from what I have read/heard). Thanks for watching!
Thank you for watching! I can only speak to my experience - I have been twice, and did not have an issue bringing a limited amount of shells back in my suitcase.
Hello friend! I can only speak to packing shells in my suitcase, as I have not mailed home from a place I have traveled to... I would imagine the most economical way to bring shells home from a trip would be in your suitcase(provided you don't go over the weight limit for your suitcase). I have brought many shells home in my suitcase and have never gone over the weight limit). Hope this is valuable insight! Thanks for watching!
Doing a Caribbean cruise in February or March 2024. I really want to go to an island that has shell. Any suggestions since you have been to a lot of islands. Thank you for your videos.
Caribbean ports of call are a great way to see the islands. I did a cruise a couple of years ago and was able to get out to shell at St. Kitts, St. Croix, and St Lucia(a couple of those shelling episodes have been uploaded to this channel) In general, you will want to check how much time you have at a port - this will dictate how far you can go, and how much time you'll have. You'll want to find locations that might have good shelling(I use Google Earth). Lastly you'll want to rent/hire a car etc. to get to those places within the window of time you are there. Good shell collecting opportunities can never be guaranteed, and doing it this way usually comes down to just a best guess. In general, the places with the lowest tourist activity will likely be the best. Always exercise caution if heading out to remote areas. Have fun, and thanks for watching!
Hello! As far as I am aware you may take dead shells from the beach without any issue. These shells are very heavy, so I didn't take any for myself. Thanks for watching!
