Thank you Drumeo for bringing Tommy’s skill to a lot of new people. He’s one of my all time favourite drummers and doesn’t get the recognition he truly deserves. An absolute beast with chops for years. ❤

I’ll never forget walking into the studio when Tommy was warming up for this video. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone play with power like he does, and his attention to detail is insane. Something I think a lot of drummers overlook. He also had the highest respect for Randy Rhoads and wanted to make sure his legacy was honored in the videos we worked on together. Cheers Tommy, you’re a legend!🤘🏻
I was fortunate enough to attend a TA clinic in Palm Desert years ago when Tommy had his carbon-fiber kit. It's true: the power we felt coming from him was insane, as we were all only 3 feet away from him playing his solo from the Tribute album! He told us funny stories about having to record 3 different tempos per song for Ozzy. Ozzy would be drawn to whatever tempo fit the type of drugs he was on: if he was on speed, he liked the faster tempo, weed, slower, alcohol, medium. Heheheheh!!
@@7tardis7 I think the answer is from Tommy: Randy liked what Tommy offered. It worked for them. There are lots of differing versions of all kinds of things that we may or may not prefer. If you prefer Kerslake's version, that's cool. Have a great New Year, 7tardis7!
@@MasterChief37it’s truly amazing that Nicko is still able to play let alone tour after his stroke. It’s also kind of ironic that two of the greatest older drummers both played for the Pat Travers band at some point.

What an absolute living legend Tommy Aldridge is. The first time I saw him perform live was with Ozzy, Randy and Rudy here in Tampa when I was 16 years old in 1981. As a young drummer, he absolutely blew my mind. Now that I'm an old drummer, he astounds me even more. My playing style is absolutely reflective of his although I am nowhere near his level of creativity and power. What really strikes me, too, is his humility in this video. He makes it a point, several times, to note that what he does isn't necessarily "better" than what Lee did, it's just different. What an amazing performer and person he is. Thanks for sharing this, Drumeo!
It's true though. As he said, in many cases studio versions have different goals. This kind of playing would have been too busy for the studio version where they purposely want the focus to be on Randy's guitar and Ozzy's vocals.

If I can be jamming like this 35 years from now, I'll be so grateful. By default, I think Tommy Aldridge just became my idol.
This is important. We've lost so many legends with nothing but our best guess to help us figure out what they did. I'm so glad this metal god allowed himself to be recorded and explained how he did it.
You can see and feel the joy in his playing. I grew up with Tommy driving the rhythm of my teen years and beyond. Thank you for the joy and energy, sir.
Tommy's drumming on 'The Wizard' off of Speak of the Devil will forever be one of my favorite drum performances. It's ferocious ....and grooves at the same time. Great drummer.
I’m not a drummer, but I can see and hear there is so much more of a presence and an attention to detail in Tommy’s drumming style than other drummers that have performed with Ozzy’s solo act. Very impressive! Wow. Wow. And wow. There is no doubt in my mind that he could tour with Ozzy right now and still blow people away
When Tommy goes to that big castle in the sky, my only hope is that he and Randy can pick up where they left off. What an amazing life, career and talent. You inspire us all!
My first concert, with Randy and Ozzy... Being a drummer myself and 13, I was in awe at everything, even that strange smelling smoke floating about. Edit: The hair he had, so big and orange, I couldn't get over that either.
Great performance from this legendary rock drummer. The older he gets, the harder he plays. In the clips from the 80's it looks like he didn't play this hard. I mean, he has always been a heavy hitter but, at 72, he's taken it to another level. Awesome!
I am a 53-year-old guitar player started on drums I can only hope to live to be 73 I couldn't imagine or better yet I pray that I can only do half of what this man just done to them drums one of the greatest drummers alive hands down rip Randy rhoads
The first time I saw him live, he was playing at an outdoor location. There were several big name drummers there, for a charity event. As I pulled up, was getting out of my vehicle, I was going, "whoahhhh... this must be what everyone always talks about with this guy... that must be Tommy Aldridge". I was blown away just opening my truck door. There is something over-the-top about the way he plays that comes across live in a very powerful way.
I love true inspirations like Tommy. Blows my mind how this guy is still doing it. He came up with the cymbal choke in between bass and snare hit that Tommy lee used. Super hard to do
Right! I noticed the same thing. Knowing I'll never be THAT good but also never have the kick speed like he has. Those look like runners legs of a much younger man!
Saw him with White Snake at Cannafest in Grand Forks B.C. Canada in 2018... he was 68yrs old then... a yr younger than me ha. But, wow! I've never seen such energy behind a kit. I'm a drummer and I can very much appreciate what he does. High praise and respect for this awesome drummer.

one can not say enough about Tommy Aldridge, the man is and will always be one a handful of the greatest drummers ever.
I saw this great drumming in the 1970s with Pat Travers AND in that same concert I saw Rush after the release of their Permanent Waves album. Two great drummers, one great show!!!
I saw Tommy with Ozzy on the Bark at the Moon tour..(my 1st concert ever)....saw RUSH 1 month later....awesome memories
Same here! That was a GREAT SHOW. Tommy is one of the few drummers that could share a stage respectfully with Neil Peart. What an amazing drummer.
Me too! That's how I personally discovered Pat - amazing back in the day! SNORTIN WHISKEY AND DRINKING COCAINE!
Wow! That must have been awesome!
@@jpcolindesign517 C'mon..."few drummers"? Neil was most OVERRATED drummer in history. When he faced the "REAL" giants at Buddy Rich tribute.... Hmmmmmmm
This is so awesome. I'm in my late 30s and finally decided to get into drumming, with absolutely no experience. I was worried that maybe it wasn't worth the cost at my age, and that I wouldn't get very many years out of playing fast & fun. Look at Tommy Aldridge go! If I can be jamming like this 35 years from now, I'll be so grateful. By default, I think Tommy Aldridge just became my idol.
At that age you should not have a problem. Just start with the basics and go from there. What kind of set did you get??
This is important. We've lost so many legends with nothing but our best guess to help us figure out what they did. I'm so glad this metal god allowed himself to be recorded and explained how he did it.
What a drummer ! The energy he can still put on the drums is amazing ! Clean playing too, still has some double bass chops, amazing
I saw him live with Whitesnake a couple of years ago... his energy is incredible!
Tommy has me believing I can start my drumming career at 40 and be in my prime at 70 🤘
You certainly can. Practice, Practice, Practice. Some of these guys do it more than 8hrs a day. Amazing dedication
👍
Tommy has always been my favourite drummer. Truly a beast behind the set, the past 40 years doesnt seem to have applied to him.
You can see and feel the joy in his playing. I grew up with Tommy driving the rhythm of my teen years and beyond. Thank you for the joy and energy, sir.
Holy Crap Tommy's such a badass! all the legends this guy jammed with is just incredible what a life!
Wow, I've never seen drumming like that. What a stunning performance! Such intensity and energy!
You should check out Dave Weckl. You'll overdose. I recommend the Chick Corea Elektric Band Live At Montreaux DVD.
Tommy's drumming on 'The Wizard' off of Speak of the Devil will forever be one of my favorite drum performances. It's ferocious ....and grooves at the same time. Great drummer.
Fuck yeah!!!!
Yeah his drumming on that album is really great.
One of the nicest rock stars working. Met Tommy decades ago in Lansing Michigan. What a humble, down to earth person.
Monster of drumer, amazing artist !!!!!
Very pleased he mentioned Kerslake. ❤
Me too, Tommy is a class act.
What a great drummer and human being
When Tommy goes to that big castle in the sky, my only hope is that he and Randy can pick up where they left off. What an amazing life, career and talent. You inspire us all!
of course they will, Randy sees how Tommy is true to his legacy
Lee Kerslake is there already ;) Respect 😁
My first concert, with Randy and Ozzy... Being a drummer myself and 13, I was in awe at everything, even that strange smelling smoke floating about. Edit: The hair he had, so big and orange, I couldn't get over that either.
My goodness! That snare sound is a killer!
Because hes beating it like a truck
Great performance from this legendary rock drummer. The older he gets, the harder he plays. In the clips from the 80's it looks like he didn't play this hard. I mean, he has always been a heavy hitter but, at 72, he's taken it to another level. Awesome!
Love this video and how Mr. Tommy appreciates the genius of Mr. Randy Rhoads
Smiles and talks like the friendliest chap ever. Drums like a bornkiller.
I am a 53-year-old guitar player started on drums I can only hope to live to be 73 I couldn't imagine or better yet I pray that I can only do half of what this man just done to them drums one of the greatest drummers alive hands down rip Randy rhoads
This man is STILL one of the drum gods! Even after all this time he hasn't lost a thing. Incredible perspective and video
going absolutely insane during that post chorus/pre solo section god damn
I haven't seen someone play with this much power before
He is young
the says it comes from him wanting to put on a show, it more that than functional.
check Tico Torres
Respect your comment but check out Vinnie Paul
The first time I saw him live, he was playing at an outdoor location. There were several big name drummers there, for a charity event. As I pulled up, was getting out of my vehicle, I was going, "whoahhhh... this must be what everyone always talks about with this guy... that must be Tommy Aldridge". I was blown away just opening my truck door. There is something over-the-top about the way he plays that comes across live in a very powerful way.
Mr. Aldrige is a legend himself and never stop to be thankful to the late Randy Rhoads...love it when the video is ending "Thank you Randy Rhoads"
One of the best performances I've ever seen...The old guys have still got it!
Tommy is now, and will always be a MONSTER on the drums….love you brother, thanks for the inspiration!!
What a gift to be able to watch Tommy and have it all focused on him.
Tommy is a beast. One of my favorite
drummers of all time
One of the best drummers in the rock world by far. Amazing consistency serious legacy.
I love true inspirations like Tommy. Blows my mind how this guy is still doing it. He came up with the cymbal choke in between bass and snare hit that Tommy lee used. Super hard to do
Yeah Lee stole it 100%.
what song?
@@jelisa1984 I'm assuming he means Shout at the Devil, particularly in the intro and then periodically throughout the verses.
Playing with 1000% heart and passion fooocking master legend!
I'm a bodybuilding fan and I must say the dude has got some lower leg muscle, front and rear (calves). Total respect for someone in his 70's. Wow.
And this is the reason he was one of the first that could play fast double bass without any particular technique but only muscle force! Incredible
Right! I noticed the same thing. Knowing I'll never be THAT good but also never have the kick speed like he has. Those look like runners legs of a much younger man!
He s a confirmed Cyclist
@@Nissardpertugiu confirmed? lolol like being a cyclist is something hard to achieve. Sorry but thats sounded so fucking funny
Body building is for vain muppetts.
Great, great drumming! Spicing the song up and making it a bit more intresting, without ruining it.
Great executions as well, at 200 years.
WOW!
God I love this guy. Beautiful personality from what I can see on interviews etc....
Wow. He has to be the most talented drummer I have ever seen. I guess I saw him in 1983 in Louisville, Kentucky. You rock my friend.
Seen Tommy many times over the years with different bands a real legend that goes under the radar but seriously under rated drummer and very humble 😇
☝️☝️ Reach out we have something to talk about🎁🎁..
He has such a cool and unusual style. No one else would play the track quite like he does. It's really quirky. Great stuff.
What a treasure of a video. Great explanation of techniques too... such a treat.
So good!! Love his "busier" version. That's how drums should freaking be! Glad I got to see him play live. Awesome drummer!
Imagine being in the same room. Every time the snare hits makes your eyes flinch haha great stuff
