    Dean - I am so happy I came across your videos! I just - like literally just started researching soap making and with my addictive personality; I am hooked! In my reading I saw where soaps take 4-6 weeks on average, to cure. But in your video I heard you say this batch will be in your shop the next day! How come?

    • @DeanWilson
      @DeanWilson  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      CP = Cold Process is where you make your soap from oils and make it yourself. This takes 4-6 weeks to cure. I don't use this method. My soaps are M&P = Melt And Pour base. It's soap that has been pre-made but your able to remelt it and add dye and fragrance. Because of the way it's made, it's ready to use as soon as it's cold/solid.

    The white came out great. Do you think the red bond line is more noticeable because of the darker color used where we don't notice as much on the white color?

    • @DeanWilson
      @DeanWilson  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bonding line will also because visible if left long enough and it goes cold. I have done this with a number of different soaps and they all turn out the same, even white.

Please get back soon and Thank You for making Nice clean , helpful short to the point Videos.. Your craft is Amazing !!

      Hi, Thanks for your comments. I have not used pure aleo or herbs in my soaps as yet. I am not sure how to add them so I will research them first. I did add Calendula petals with a cold process soap I made - Lemon Zest. But nothing since. I will have to get back to you. :)

    Hello sir. Pls tell me why do you mention the temperature of soaps while preparing them ? Does that hold any specific significance as a beginner who's trying to make a soap ?

    • @DeanWilson
      @DeanWilson  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the base is too hot it can melt the embed. 130F is a good temp for the base I use. However other bases are different and might be a different temp. Testing is needed if your not sure.

  • @kimsblue

    Hi Dean.....awesome video...I have a question...if you melted 980 grams and initially poured 370 grams...how was the heart centered when you still had 610 grams left to pour on top of the heart?

    • @DeanWilson
      @DeanWilson  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the 370 + 370 = 740 grams. - 980 = 240 grams goes around the heart.
      Bottom 370
      Place heart and pour around it which is 240
      Top 370
      Since you pour around the heart and the top at the same time it makes 740 grams.

    Hi Dean, those are SO pretty! I've been watching soap making videos for a few months. I don't even remember what got me to soap making vids. One day I was watching animal rescue videos and one of the soap vids popped up.
    Forgive me for the questions. Up until now, I've watched either cold or hot processing soap making which seems a little difficult for a new person wanting to start making soap and a little expensive. Adding in lye--wow, I don't think I've used lye since high school!
    1--Is the melt & pour easier to used for newcomers?
    2--Is this less expensive to start making?
    3--All I saw was melting either the clear or white base and adding color & scent to it. Or did I miss something?
    4--And finally, if I may ask this, what is the easiest way to sell these? We have flea markets here and I thought that might be good.
    Thank you so much! Suzie

    • @DeanWilson
      @DeanWilson  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Suzie Phillips Hi Suzie, I am scared of Lye myself so that is why I didn't go Cold Process, but it looks like fun, but takes a long time to get the final bar - 4-8 weeks.
      1) Yes, for sure. If you want to try your hand at soap making, melt and pour is the best place to start. From there you can learn and grow and expand into hot process or cold process soaps.
      2) For me 1kg of soap base is about $13 AUD ($9 USD), 20ml fragrance will be a few dollars and the same for dyes.
      3) Yes, simply. Cut base up into small cubes, melt in boiler, add dye, add fragrance and pour into mold. 4-5 hours later you can pop it out and start using it.
      4) Selling is the hardest part. It's more marketing then selling. My experience was a little easier because I had a retail shop but it's hard to sell online because they can't touch or smell your product. Flea markets are good to get your name out there. Might also try and take really nice photos and create an Etsy.com account too.
      Hope it all goes well for you :)

    Love these! I tried to make the white goats milk one and waited for the first pour to form a skin, then did everything you said but as soon as I carefully lowered the heart into the mould, it sunk right through the skin and sunk to the bottom, so then I thought, ok, I’ll put a pink heart in the top, so I waited this time for the skin to be able to support the heart, but after pouring the goats milk to the top of the mould, I saw pink colours rising to the surface. I think maybe my pour was too hot! What temp. Should the pour be?

    • @DeanWilson
      @DeanWilson  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does sound like it was too hot. I pour under 130F degree so the embeds dont melt.

    • @DeanWilson
      @DeanWilson  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DeanWilson thank you. Sorry for the typo. I did mean Dean, not dead. I’m trying the heart soap with love spell fragrance, but I’m sure I put too much mica in. Now the red is not bright but more dark like wine red. Oh dear! So much for my Mother’s Day gifts idea. I appreciate your replies after having stopped making soap so long ago.

    • @DeanWilson
      @DeanWilson  ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries. To lighter a dark color up you might add a touch of white or in the case of of your red soap you could get away with a touch of pink to lighter then red up. But not 100% sure, its been a while since i soaped.
