We used to have perch like that here in Michigan but that was before walleyes and zebra mussels changed the lake Huron ecosystem. We still have perch, but you don't see 14" size in the Saginaw Bay much any more.
Harder to catch them on sag bay these days but there still here. Last year I caught multiple 14 to 15 inchers. Heading out Thursday to try to find some in the shallows.
Was this filmed this year or last winter? Definitely on my list of lakes to go to now that I am retired, it looks like like I should come out with the ATV with the tracks on due to the snow depth on the lake.
They look a lot like our european perch which grow a little bigger, 20" are possible, while the biggest getting close to 23-24", weighing well above 7lbs.
Actually on that lake that is not true. I know the biologist and a few years back the jumbo population was down because prior to that there were too many (bigger perch) and they ate too many of the juvenile perch so recruitment of the larger perch was hurt. Now, after numbers of bigger perch were down, more smaller perch survived and grew into the larger fish. This lake just simply is not harmed because pressure is low and in fact it's OK to keep the larger fish to allow more of the small ones to survive. But even then, you are going to have fluctuations because of the natural population cycles not being disrupted by fishing pressure Part of it is the fishing culture where trout & salmon get more attention, and the fact that most of the pressure on perch is during the winter.
People illegally put Northern Pike in the Idaho Panhandle lakes of Idaho in the 80's. When I was a kid it was common to catch large, not necessarily jumbo, perch at most lakes without much effort. Now you are hard pressed to find a medium sized one.
Wasting all that time and effort to catch big delicious perch just to toss them back in the water... Seriously what's the point? Would've subscribed if you kept them...
We had 14 to 15 inches in the70's and 80's until white perch were put in. What was a great lake for nice fish has been a dead body of water ever since. Those of you from south central PA knows where I mean.
Every perch fisherman's dream, right there.
Happy to see these fish released
Bucket list trip for sure! Great show as always.
Appreciate it!

I'm in Ontario and on Georgian Bay so I know what you mean, everything is always changing but never for the better it seems.
Used to see them in Hubbard Lake , haven’t been there in years tho .

That's because the zebra mussels munch on the zoo plankton lake perch used to feed on.
Hi,Might Want to Try Burt Lake..We also Caught Quite a Few 12s in Camp Dearborn.Their Back Pond.Have Fun
Thinking of going west to ski this year. Might have to bring my ice fishing gear with me and give that lake a shot!!!
It would be worth it!!
Wow nice fish!!
Lake cascade , missippi backwaters, and the great lakes! Best in the business! No other place I'd rather be! Ice belt is my domain.
All great bodies of water!
Perch are the 1 fish I will keep. They are so good!
They are good!! I’m going bluegill first tho!
A big body of water holds a gazillion of fish and it’s healthy to keep some fish!
Great video!.. If you like perch fishing you should come and fish for em here in Europe.. Ours are 3 times that size.
Great job hero fishin! I gotta get down there! It’s only 7-8 hours from sw mt.
Enjoy the drive, it’s worth it!
Some measurements on some those would be nice. Looked like so much fun!
It was a blast! Biggest was 15.5”
nice perch

Yes they receive tons of snow - you will need a sled!
@SportsmansJournalTV my ATV with tracks on goes through quite a bit of snow, you don't think it will do well out there?
@ yes should be good

oh my goodness!

Do they taste good 🤔, most times the bigger fish are not as good 🤔🤔🤔
nice perch really good, do you mind share where to fish or just anywhere?
Mud Flats by the creek channels is where focused.
Omfg them some hippos!!!!
😂😂Yes they were!
Nice !
Awesome perch. What were the length of some of those?
Can’t stress enough the need to release those jumbos

Yep, release them right into my frying pan.
Any follow-up on the tag? How old? Did you record the info from the tag? Did you even report it? They are PACKED with eggs.

Good video ❤
🙌🙌🙏
i have a big belly, but no one oos and aas over it!
HAHAHAH! You just gotta find the right people!
Most Jumbo's are females with eggs , so Conserve keep that in mind for the future ..
they released all of them.
Rules and limits are set by fish and game!
Learn the science. Fish and Game has studied this for years. Angler harvest has no impact on the population of jumbos on the lake. There is no limit.
There's no limit here in idaho on perch.
Keep em if you want to keep em !! Loins you got loins
I've caught my share of perch..but nothing close to that. Wow.
Awesome those all be dinner yum
And that’s for two reasons, A…and two….
No one cares about B!!

Why you catch and release, eat them.
Fake!
They used to be way bigger. Keep filling your pails soon they will be all 6 inches and less

Those are some dandies!
