The reason for not rolling when the ground is wet is you risk the ground capping if it goes dry and the germinating seed struggling to push through the over compacted layer.

When changing antenna, it can be easy, if you just tie a very good piece of twine on the end that plugs into radio. Take old antenna off, hauling twine through as you pull coax out, then just tie new coax end on and pull through with the twine. You may have to wrap black tape around the end so as it does not get caught on anything coming through.
the radio problem might be a brake in the aerial cable or what tends to happen is a lot of bouncing around can dislodge the cable. replacing the aerial is easy enough just tape the old cable and new together use quite a bit of tape at one end pull the old one through and the new one will feed through with the old one
This is the first time I have watched you and I think your quite mad 😂 so for that reason I shall keep watching snd have pressed the bell. Its good to have a laugh. Not much of that about these days. 😂😂
I was cringing a bit at how wet it was especially in the morning there Richard, The worst part is the headland where you have to run over the same bit multiple times you end up compacting the soil.Just a thought......you could have reseeded your maize field from last year and then ploughed this field and put this one into maize
Don’t worry Rich. Only two weeks tomorrow and Ken is back with pop master 🤗 Just retune to greatest hits radio (105.2 with us in Warwickshire ) for when he starts his new job. We have retuned all of our radios over already as it’s a fab station especially if you grew up in the 60/70/80 ad bit like old radio one from the day. There are adverts but not to many and not to long. You will be amazed at how many other presenters you remember like Simon mayo ,Jackie brambles ,Richard Alison etc Give it a try 🤗👍👍
Cheap radio idea. Buy a decent blue tooth speaker and attach it on top of the dashboard with big pieces of blu tack and use your phone for the radio. I do this in my defender as the radio is rubbish. No wires 😉🙏🦙
Hi funky farmer agree with comments, too damp/wet, too fast should be slowly slowly, possible capping if drying east wind why should use Cambridge roll, use flat roller to push stones into soil before silage making, chickweed should have been sprayed in initial ley establishment after six / eight weeks but like most farmers miss this opportunity to kill weeds when young and easier to kill , then suddenly three years have gone bye , and becomes expensive especially docks. Hope you film the progress every two weeks.
Great video Richard, it was certainly very wet, I am holding off cutting my first lawn grass simply because its to wet . Usually by now I would be on my second or third cut. But because of the snow and rain since, its just too wet. 😮
Rolling was always the most boring tractor job we did. But then we used to roll at a slow speed. Never seen grass rolled that fast. Most tractor jobs I loved. Quite happy to sit in the cab all day. We had no air-conditioning. No radio. Just listen to how everything is working. And keep an eye on what you were doing. In-between fixing what breaks. I have lived in Australia for the last 25 years. Some of the fields are measured in square kilometres. One run up the field can be an 8 hour shift. GPS controlled steering. The driver is an on board monitor. I have spoken to farmers in their fifties that have never even seen parts of their farm. Thousands of square kilometres. I live in Queensland. I was on one outback cattle and sheep property. I asked the farmer how many head they were running. They didn't have a clue. We'll get a better idea when the helicopters turn up for mustering. There are a lot like that. The scale is mind blowing.
As a non-farmer I find this oddly fascinating. The effort put into toiling the land is amazing. Blues Brothers 'Rollin' is probably the best rendition. (The Tarzan was brilliant) Haha
Came across your channel in my feed as I play a lot of farming simulator 22 and watch a few TH-camrs, I loved watching Clarkson's farm and now I'm hooked watching your channel. You have a very good way of keeping people engaged unlike some of the other channels! My mums side of the family come from Forfar and they had a family farm. I'm not sure if you would know but is the game as close as they can get to real farming it does seem that way
Great job bit fertilizer on then will grow away we are arable and beef farmers we have long days sat on a tractor in big fields it does get boring 🚜autosteer on then watch TH-cam 😀
Chick weed will go if you give it a light grazing once new grass plants don’t pull out with a light grazing. Just give it a grazing B4 locking up for hay
Will be interesting to see in a months/6 weeks time, hopefully you’ll see good results, there are some keyboard ag experts here but you know your land better than anyone else.
Flat out as usual Richard 😂😉. I will have to put my hand up I'm one of the ones who can be in a tractor all day every day no problem.. but I don't do it every day. Why don't you just stick a spare battery radio from the house/ shower in the tractor till you get the tractors one sorted.. stay safe 🏴
I would have thought it would be best to follow the way he went when he drilled it not run across it, plus most grass men round here including me always roll after chain harrowing every year, to press the stones back in before mowing
Paul Weston ... agree we do the same as you ! Our rollers are filled with water , we empty prewinter n refill with water in the spring ! Richard what hills ? Lol
@@thefunkyfarmer put more trust in the tractor, just drop a gear and it will do it easily and believe me speaking from the peak district, those aren't hills😁
Best practice is to roll both ways after overseeding, after running over with the harrows. Some of that looked quite deep, I don't think clover would like it that deep if he had any in the mix.
You would want to give that a light glazing in about 2 weeks to let the new grass come if you don't the new Grass will get smothered and you will have wasted your time and money doing the job. Getting out ploughing is absolute terepy after a winter in the yeard 😊😊

Nice bit of rolling Richard should get a HELL OF A CROP OF GRASS 😉👍
Nice one Richard never a dull day when the funky farmer posted a new video. Thanks again
Tractor work… gee I look forward to mowing each spring but after 3 laps….put me back in the cow shed…the tractor does my head in 😂😂😂
Don’t worry Rich.

Have check see if speaker working ok in both tractors might be rusty on araeil clean up
Park the roller till it's dry .it won't do grass any harm rolling it when it starts to grow

If it was me i wouldn't have done it. Until your last cut of grass then i would reseed it. Then..
What weight do you have in the roller when you filled with concrete is it very heavy thanks mate
Not sure
As a non-farmer I find this oddly fascinating.

Keep on rolling Richard o should I say Rawhide😆
how is the downer cow and good video you need some newer tractors
A lot better, update video Wednesday
Hope you got that done Rich before it flooded again. I came past yours on Tuesday on the M4. Looked well underwater in your direction
Done far too early field is too wet for rolling, more damage done than good
Great video Richard,
what a unique voice you have.😵💫xx

Ouch !!
Enjoyable as always.
Love to all xx
Fell asleep whilst ring rolling once. Nearly ended up in the sunken lane at the end of the field. I was only about 16 at the time.
easily done
the easy way is to get headphones/earprotection with radion in it.
The modern internal aerials ate alot better these days. Are are easy to fit.
leave it as it is the grass will come up fine good job done
Now Ken Bruce has gone and pop master I wouldn’t worry about a radio
Great job bit fertilizer on then will grow away we are arable and beef farmers we have long days sat on a tractor in big fields it does get boring 🚜autosteer on then watch TH-cam 😀
chain harrowing will bring all the clods back up
Instead of you rolling the field Richard that could be a job for Jack to do for extra pocket money 😊 I'm sure he is capable of doing it .
Lol I forgot what you was saying as well @5:10 :)
Chick weed will go if you give it a light grazing once new grass plants don’t pull out with a light grazing.
Just give it a grazing B4 locking up for hay
Great video, I'd just love a bit of tractor driving work 👍🚜
As nut cases go you are one of the best, that`s why I like you. (no disrespect meant)
Are you available to do cricket pitches this year? :-)
Will be interesting to see in a months/6 weeks time, hopefully you’ll see good results, there are some keyboard ag experts here but you know your land better than anyone else.
👀🙄🐾👍You would be best spraying the chickweed to kill it
Flat out as usual Richard 😂😉. I will have to put my hand up I'm one of the ones who can be in a tractor all day every day no problem.. but I don't do it every day. Why don't you just stick a spare battery radio from the house/ shower in the tractor till you get the tractors one sorted.. stay safe 🏴
Rawhide is a western serie with Clint Eastwood 🙂
Sometimes when I'm out in the machine for a long day, I bring a packed lunch 🍺 🚬 🎶, just ta keep it interesting 😎
I would have thought it would be best to follow the way he went when he drilled it not run across it, plus most grass men round here including me always roll after chain harrowing every year, to press the stones back in before mowing
maybe, but the tractor didn't like pulling the roller up hill. seems to have done the trick anyway
Paul Weston ... agree we do the same as you ! Our rollers are filled with water , we empty prewinter n refill with water in the spring ! Richard what hills ? Lol
I would leave it now
@@thefunkyfarmer put more trust in the tractor, just drop a gear and it will do it easily and believe me speaking from the peak district, those aren't hills😁

I would slow down a bit to most effective 😉
I would leave it now
We have a Roller very similar But I'm more of a Bentley man myself
Oh watching this …I hear Jon Pardi…Dirt on my Boots playing …
Good rolling job 👌
Don't chainharow now the seed will be all ready struck you would pull up the new seed
No danger of a copyright claim for your singing!! 😂😂😂 crack on 👍👍👍
🤣🤣
Join audible and get some audiobooks
I wouldn't bother chain harrowing now you got it flat do it next year
If you don't start and fix some of the things wrong with the tractor you will will eventually reach the point where it cheaper to buy a Massey.
Hi Richard
So funny. The Tarzan call blew my ears off, dont watch the funky farmer with ear buds.
Could I be your weekend dairyman
Come to Ireland and you can be mine!
👍
Lol the music editing missed it's cue
Leave Leave Leave Raw hide😮
Thats far to fast for rolling no need to roll that fast.
😁😆😁
