I am SCREAMING for the day they are finally boyfriend and girlfriend. I adored how cute Peril was when she told Qibli and Turtle about her meeting with Clay in book 9 and how she was so excited when Qibli said Clay liked her back
And Clay’s little embarrassment when Darkstalker teased him about thinking of her often, and the fact he genuinely cares about her despite all his friends disliking her

I actually realised, qibli and winter are foil characters to.
Don’t believe me? Well they both have the trauma of their families, and hard and tough childhoods. But they handled it differently, because qibli chose to then help others to not have to live in darkness like he had. However, winter let the guilt and grief get to him.
This made me realize, with Peril’s isolation and all, that she actually is somewhat similar to Anemone. They both grew up isolated, with their only real connection with another dragon being towards the queen. Both of them were trained to be weapons, with Peril in the arena and Anenome as an animus. Peril, though, was meant to only be a weapon controlled by Scarlet. She wasn’t meant to have a life outside of the arena. Anemone, in contrast, was always told she would be queen one day. Peril defined herself through her need to prove herself to Scarlet. Anemone defined herself through her future of being queen. Peril accepted being called a monster, and Anemone became later when her powers consumed her. Her animus powers were the thing her mother focused on, just like how Peril’s powers were the thing she intertwined with her self-image. Both are very very similar if you think about it

This video was awesome!! The message you gave and the way you game it was so passionate!! And true... Scarlet knowingly created a self-fulfilling prophecy in Peril and made a weapon out of her. It's scary, but I've met more covert people with the same character as scarlet, and in places you'd never expect too. To anyone reading, just be careful who you let shape you. personally i really like claril with Perils ( this is who i am as the most dangerous thing in the world ) and clays caring and compassion to others i think it works really well. I do find it funny how the first dragon clay meets he fall's in love with

This analysis is very interesting, I'm not a big reader, but I've already noticed this dynamic in this and other books, but I didn't know there was a terminology to describe it.
You obviously know a lot about science? the art? behind the writing.
This analysis goes much deeper than my initial understanding, like my God, how much thought and re-reading is behind this video?
I'm rereading book one right now and it just stood out to me. I write a read a lot though and enough repetition and experience helps you learn to recognize these things!
Truthfully, I love Peril and Clay's dynamic. It's slow, but both need a lot of time to figure things out. Clay has lived under a rock for years and he needs to slowly learn to care about dragons who aren't his siblings with a different kind of love. He clearly wants to love her, but he doesn't really know how to express it yet.
Everyone talks about Peril's side but Clay needs time too! I think they will end up as a cute couple but both characters have their own personal stuff to work out.

I love the idea of peril having a fellow firescales that was taken later than peril was. This firescales would be able to teach peril morals. That would be a great what if by the way!
I disagree that they fall in love too fast. You mentioned that Peril had an unhealthy amount of love for herself, it seems to me like when she couldn't maintain that anymore, she transferred that affection to the only dragon who accepted her - Clay. Also, Clay seemingly still hasn't processed the romantic element between him and Peril lol. He's a bit dense...
I do agree now that I think about it that clay and peril’s meeting was weird but I absolutely love them. Love your art❤️🙃

Yoooo, I'm actually early this time. You bring up some interesting poinst that I havent thought of before, and it does seem a bit wierd that Clay and Peril got together immediately. I still like Cleril relationship because its pretty funny at some times. Awesome art as always, keep up the good work!

-i feel as if cleril shouldnt happen because first we were never shown if clay reciprocates her feelings romantically and their interactions have mostly been normal friendly interactions.
clay was probably one of the first people to ever care about peril and treat her like an actual person and one of her first friends so she has never experienced the difference between friendship and romantic love (osprey was sort of her friend but he just told her stories and didnt get as personal).
-throughout the first part of her book you can see how peril is obsessed with clay as if he was an object she can obtain and she is always thinking "this is what clay would like" or "this is what clay would do" instead of "this would be the right choice". after meeting turtle and going on her journey she begins making her own decisions
-but i havent read the series in a while so there may have been more official hints of clay romantically liking her back that i missed

As much as I DESPERATELY want to see thrm actually dating, I really hope Tui gives them more time to figure everything out before they start a relationship. Their relationship is definitely in a better place than it was before, but there's still some time they need to work out having a healthy relationship.

I'd agree that I don't want them to be an endgame couple, but disagree that their "romance" such as it is is bad. It kind of barely exists for much of the series. Peril is fixated on Clay, but that's perfectly understandable for her, as starved for genuine compassion as she is. Clay on the other hand doesn't really treat her too differently from how he treats any other dragon, at least not until close to the end of Arc 2. I seem to recall there being some implication of him returning her feelings in either Talons of Power or Darkness of Dragons, though it's been a bit since I read the books so the specifics are eluding me. But in Escaping Peril Clay specifically tells her that he refuses to become the new Scarlet telling her how to live her life, and she needs to learn to think for herself and choose who SHE wants to be instead of modelling herself off of what others want from her. Honestly if I had my way Clay would have never returned her romantic feelings, and eventually Peril would get over her obsession and the two would just be good friends. It'd be better for her character arc. As is though, I wouldn't call it bad.
One thing that DOES frustrate me though is how Clay was such an interesting and compelling character in Dragonet Prophecy, only to completely lose all trace of personality for the rest of the series following. He just becomes a one-note gag character who only ever thinks about food for the rest of the series, and I hate it. He's my favorite of the prophecy dragonets as far as enjoyment of how they are portrayed in their focus novel goes, but overall he becomes easily the most boring and underdeveloped.
This is some really good insight! I enjoyed reading your thoughts, and I like your suggestions for how their relationship might have progressed! And I agree with you about Clay he definitely seems flatter lately.
Peril strikes me as the embodiment of impulse and disorientation, mostly because that’s who I hear in my head when I try to keep intrusive thoughts in check.
I feel really bad for Peril whilst under Scarlet's influence. Scarlet is the only person who found a use for Peril and basically gave her a purpose in life. Because of this, Scarlet is like a kind of deity to her, and the only way Peril can repay her is with her undying loyalty. This is seen when she betrays the dragonets when they are escaping. Poor Peril :(
