    The GTI-2500 has a GTI Imaging coil and the AT-Pro a proformance coil.
    Not a fair contest on the negative side of the coils.
    Rerun your test with both detectors maxed out in all metal from bottom of coils and see the results.
    Thanks, John.

    You’re comparing a DD coil to a Concentric coil. That’s comparing apples to oranges because DD coils generally go deeper than concentric coils.
    Also, you’re testing from the top side of the coil and concentric coils (notice I said concentric and NOT dd) focus their power on the BOTTOM of the coil - this has to do with how the wires are positioned inside the coil relative to each other. If you don’t believe me, just get a low freq RF power meter and measure the difference. I measure 17 to 20% more radiated energy on the bottom of my GTI-2500 concentric coils.
    With a DD on my GTI-2500, I can get a solid hit at 17” (air test) with a large gold Masonic ring. That’s really good, even for an air test.

      Yes, I can see that. I'm not into metal detecting yet, but seriously considering. My first thought when I started watching his test was, he should be testing these from the bottom of the coil. For no other reason than, it's logical.

    Hi Steve, The thing I learned since the test is the stock coil that came with the AT Pro is equal to the 12.5" GTI 2500 coil in depth. So the test is unfair with the 9.5 coil vs the stock AT Pro coil. If would have put that big coil on the 2500 it would be an equal contest...you got a great detector! Don't worry...

    different coils, i can tell you my GTI 2500 is a powerhouse, it will easily find stuff way deeper than youll want to dig it,and in all metal, it rocks. but like was mentioned sensitivity may have been overlooked. :)

    @manofsteelhead I dont think you watched the whole video chief # 2...I explained in the vid why it is in Disc mode as apposed to all metal...Only in the ground will the 2500 go deeper in all metal mode. Watch again. Don't take it personal...the GTI 2500 is my fav detector. It will get the depth of the AT Pro does with the new 11x8.5" on it also. Garrett engineer says the new DD coil is made to get the depth of a 12"-13" concentric coil. Thanks for your concern.

    I would get the AT Pro...the 2500 is a bit old and is being updated with a new model as we speak. When it is released no-one knows yet. Hard to go wrong with the AT Pro though.

  • @bearkat4160
    @bearkat4160  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @martelnews: Usually concentrics get better depth. From what I hear it is the design of this particular coil equals the depth of a 12"-13" concentric coil. Thats what Garrett engineer has said in one of their videos.

    I am not a technician, but have five detectors at the moment and have detected for many years. Just wanted to add a few points on what some people here are asking about. The first thing is the reality of digging deep holes. Most "treasure is within two feet of the surface, so unless you are looking for specific types of items like gold or large items buried deep, then two feet down is plenty. Considering the work of digging some large pieces of junk a few feet down, it can become frustrating.

    • @TheJoshSchneider
      @TheJoshSchneider 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah really! good point! like your going to find a gold ring buried 3 feet down at the beach. I had a Garret GTI 1500 and i loved it. I sold it and now i regret it.

  • @bearkat4160
    @bearkat4160  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @windury1 - When I did the video I did not realized that the design of the new AT Pro 11"x8.5" DD coil would get the depth of the GTI 2500 12.5" coil. If I had known that at the time I would have done a video with the large coil also. That is why the AT Pro appears deeper than the 2500 in the video...Thanks.

  • @k2clk
    @k2clk 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice test but I would like to see both detectors use the same Double D coil. It is a known fact that a Double D has both a narrower and deeper penetrating signal. Also the sensitivities of both machines have to be at equal power and I don't have any idea of how you can match sensitivities on both machines. I do not mean to pick on your testing method but rather try to equal the testing field. Still a very nice test.

  • @jameshart1028
    @jameshart1028 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Must be difficult in the field using the top side of the coil.
    I cant even imagin how that's done.
    A valid test would be in the direction they would actually be used, and with the concentric coil, you would have to hit the tip of the cone shaped detection area at it's extreme depth limit.
    As concentric vs DD coil detection patterns are described, off even an inch with the concentric coil would make the test invalid.

  • @prospexican
    @prospexican 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    the 2500 is most use it for treasure hunters, it will ignore smaller items but will find big ones deeper, a good example will be like a Fisher 2 box metal detector, in optimum soil conditions it will locate a 12 soda can probably at 30 to 45 Cm but any thing smaller it won't find it regardless of what time of metal they are made, I locate a 3 ft wide pipe at 14 feet deep with the 2 box machine, but that was at wide scan mode, unfortunately the 2 box machine will not be able to find a treasure that deep unless it is 30 feet long lol. in other words using the inductive mode with the aluminum handle will not locate a treasure at 14 feet deep, regardless of size, but this is a very good video for coin hunters.

    • @chickenfeed9661
      @chickenfeed9661 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samk.9972 this is how you set up the unit.
      First, put the left switch to ground balance.
      Second, put the right switch to normal.
      Third, turn on the unit. Put the volume ang ground balance at around 35% and sensitivity st around 75%.
      Fourth, push the button switch at the meter while the coil is around 3 ins from the soil and repeat 2x. Then move the coil up around 10 inches and adjust the ground balance slowly until you will not hear a sound. Now you are good to go. Please swing your detector very slowly since this detector works like a pinpointer with the coil 2-5 ins from the ground. Do the ground balance again if you hear a continuous sound. Hope you will find what you're looking for. Godbless.

    Next is that the size of object, conductivity of the object, mineralization of the soil, detector frequency and even the angle the object is laying at will all affect a detectors abilities. Air tests are fun, but there are so many other factors in-field that need to be taken into account. Then there are points to consider like build quality, easy of use, where will you actually be using the detector, and how much you're willing to pay for a detector. Good luck and Happy Hunting :)

    Good morning, I heard that the garrett gti 2500 pro has 2 functions that interest me, I would like to know if they are there or not. 1) can cut off all signals in the upper soil layer (conventionally 10 cm) and see what is underneath. 2) you can give a sniff (conditionally Kat'kin penny) and he will only react to them. I hope the question is clear. Translated via Google.

    Let's see. Air test is not true testing to begin with. I've also owned both of these and lots more of other mfg. Where the new, old, GTI 2500 shines is the fact that the coin sound (Garrett patent) is the most accurate on the market, even today, 2015. AT Pro is great for general purpose, sounds are not descriptive. GTI 2500 is still promoted as the best machine out there for coin ID'ing and sound. One machine, AT Pro for general purpose, and the GTI 2500 for coin and rings, and LESS JUNK digging...About 40 plus years will teach a lot..............

Here in Oregon, the AT Pro is 6-7" max, even on half dollars. Before you buy, find local hunters, dealers and put a coin in the ground!!

    I find the GTI target analysis is pretty foggy tbh, best way I find to get the target shape/size is to use the detector sound and run the coil over it, you can tell the difference between something can size or a coin with a few sweeps up n down, which is all you need to know really ;)

    I just would like to confirm . This is a very good detector ,very stable , permits very deep hunting, it allows you to know the size of the target too. With all these informations you can quite confidently decide to dig or not, because you most of the time know if it is a pull tab or a bottle screw by confronting size and conductivity .
