A couple things I use that you didn't mention is I have several kitchen brushes I use only on pots and pans (including my cast iron and nonstick) and it reaches into many of the crevices in the lid. Then, a neat little trick I do for that "cloudiness" on all my stainless cookware is, once it starts to get cloudy, is straight white vinegar and a few tablespoons of baking soda. The "fizz" cleans it right up and with literally no scrubbing.
I use one of those refrigerator baking soda boxes, the kind with the windows on the box. After cleaning I place the box inside the pot and seal the lid as normal. A box of soda is like 40 cents so I just have a dedicated box for my IP!
Thank you for the tips...I just recently purchased my 6-quart Instant Pot and have made 4 things in it so far. I saw somewhere else that I should clean the sealing ring every time...so when I clean the steel cooking pot, I fill it with hot soapy water and soak the ring in that for a few min suites and then wipe it, rinse it well, and let it air dry.
Brand new to the instant pot and new to you! Thanks for your very helpful video on how to clean the pot! Now I can't wait to learn some easy peasy recipes and get started!
Thank you so much for this Kristin! The one thing I just totally did not understand when I read my instant pot manual was how to clean the lid and the ring. I have the duo Plus and the instructions made it sound like I needed to take out that metal structure that holds the ring in. Thank goodness I did not break it! I have been very shy about taking the silicone ring out and cleaning it because of this. I've now used my pot three times. I wouldn't even have it out of the box right now if it wasn't for you! Watching your instant pot videos gave me the confidence I needed to actually finally unbox and cook in my instant pot! Thank you so much
I took the floater and the silver round basket thing off, that's underneath the lid to clean and completely forgot how to put the floater back together. I couldn't locate my manual and had the idea to rewatch this. Thank you for the reminder, it worked! So relieved!
Great video, thank you! I use a regular pressure cooker when batch cooking beans, etc. One thing the manufacturer recommends to extend the life of the sealing ring is to apply a light coat of vegetable oil after washing. I have done this without fail each time I use the pressure cooker. After 6 years and the ring still looks new. This is a habit I will use with the insta pot seal.
I just purchased for the first time an instantpot!!! I've had it for a week now and if it wasn't for you I would not be able to make dinner correctly!!! Can't wait to start using this!!! Thanks for all your ideas and tips!!
It really is nice to see a step by step visual guide for how to clean all the different parts. Thank you! And by the way, your hair looked beautiful. I couldn't stop looking at it. 🙂
All except the valves, I do all that cleaning you have done here every time I use the pot! I am very, very careful when I take out the sealing ring so I don't stretch it! I use my pot daily & some time 3 or 4 different times. It only takes minutes & always looks so nice! Yes, I also appreciate this video, it let me know I am doing it right! (except the valve, will check that out today & every at least weekly from now on). LOL Judie (formerly hitchhiker)
Your daughter is adorable! I clean my stainless steel pots and appliances with Baking Soda. It gets rid of odors and stains and water marks with very little effort.
Thank you so much for this great video! I really like the fact that you decreased my anxiety that I would somehow break my Instant Pot by showing very clearly how you took off and put back on each component of the pot. Very appreciated!!
Very helpful, thought something was wrong. It was just that a replacement seal was provided, and there was one already provided inside lid when it arrived. I kept looking for where to install the red one. Thanks for the video this is going to go to my saved items. ❤
Whoda thunk I'd be watching a video on how to clean my Instant Pot..? LOL But I am SO glad that I did! I was actually somewhat intimidated the first time I cleaned mine because I wasn't sure if I was doing it correctly (I was nervous because of the pressure cooking part and scared it wouldn't work correctly or even blow up on me during cooking). Thank God I found your video! Great tips on cleaning and I didn't clean my valve or the tiny 'basket' thingy next to it because I didn't know to take them apart (..duh..). The one thing I did differently was I soaked everything (not the outer body) in a mild detergent then put a light dusting of baking soda on my rag along with a couple drops of detergent. I've washed my dirty dishes that way for years now. Unbelievable suds and the baking soda (Arm & Hammer) destroys all odors. Thank you again and I sure did smile when your precious Angel said goodbye! God bless and keep your amazing videos coming 😇💜
This was super helpful. I had angst about removing the parts but know I need to thoroughly clean my instant pot and all it’s parts. This makes it seem less intimidating. Ironically I have the ecloths sitting right in my Amazon cart, lol. Thank you for sharing! 😊
Wow. This was good. I purchased an Instant Pot last year and today, July 4th, is the very first time I've used it. It's a 3qt Mini-Duo. And no, the fact that's it's July 4th has nothing to do with it. :) I thought my first use would be something like boiled eggs, but I actually made jambalaya. I'm just as surprised as you ...ummm ...assuming anyone is the least bit surprised. :) I saw this jambalaya kit at a local grocery store and that everything in the big box. The instructions seemed a bit long winded and it came to me - why not try it in my Instant Pot! I'll just slice and dice the veggies that came in the box and pour in the supplied rice and liquid broth and add a cup of water and the other stuff and set it to stew, which cooks for 35 minutes and wow. It came out very good if I must say so myself. And I do. :) I'm not sure if I've ever had jambalaya let alone made it before. Granted since this is my first time using it there is not a whole lot of mess to clean up, but I thought I should learn what is the best approach and you certainly supplied that for me so thank you, thank you! :) I've watch some of your other videos on Instant Pot and all have been informative and reliable. Cheers! :)
I ordered the E-cloths after watching this video and then used the video and deep cleaned my instant Pot today!! I love who clean and sparkly it is!!! Thank you!!
works great. i love that it has stainless steal pot inside th-cam.com/users/postUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and not the one with coating. we used to have a coated pot before, and the coating slowly peels, and i am sure went into the food that we cooked. Absolutely love stainless steel, and will not use a coated product again. This pot has many settings and many buttons, and i need to sit down with a manual to figure out which setting to use. I used the basic functions, and even though i am not technologically skilled, i turned it on and assembled it without any help.Very satisfied with this product overall.
Wow, my ninja Foodi pressure cooker function quit working. It was giving me a "lid" message right in the middle of cooking a batch of chicken thighs. So I found your instructions for cleaning the instant pot and since everything looked the same, I cleaned it and then tested it. Yay! It works great! Thank You so much for Your wonderful recipes and instructions! I am so impressed with six sister stuff as an amazing resource.😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
A tooth brush is a wonderful tool to gently clean around the valve (I clean the valve often, but have never taken the little seal ring off & checked out the air holes) & under the little cap where the intricate little part is! Judie
I wash the lid and pot after every use in the dishwasher - sealing ring and all. I've never had any smells and I'm using the same ring for almost a year - it hasn't stretched and doesn't smell. I do have back up rings for when it does get old. For the base, I just wipe it down and I run an antibacterial cloth around the outside and the rim where gunk can get.
I just got an instant pot for Christmas and made a roast in it for dinner for the first time tonight and I had to TH-cam how to clean it, it looks like a mess this was super helpful so thank you!
I too use Bar Keeper's Friend to clean the insert, and I use a damp soft cloth to clean the outside of the pot. I like you let my top air dry upside down for a bit then wipe it out. Someone below me said they put their sealing ring in the dishwasher after every use. I'm going to do that, but not after every use. I've had silicon lids shrink in the dishwasher. Hopefully the sealing ring shrinks just enough. I bought extras though so, I'm good! P.S. I love your new hair length! It looks healthy and you look beautiful.
Great presentation for a very important functional part of maintaining and cleaning the instant pot. Love your video especially your tone and demeanor throughout the video. Thanks for another great video! 💞 💃 🥘
I take the sealing ring out and put the entire top in the dishwasher on the top rack. I also put the sealing ring on the top rack as well. After the dishwasher is done, I put the sealing ring in the freezer. That helps to keep the ring from stretching and also helps with the smells.
Thank you! I came here to see if I'm missing something when cleaning my IPs. I've had my IPs for 1 year and 2 years. The last time I use one (a couple days ago), white sauce spewed out of the vent when it was time to manually release. That's never happened to me before. I added the correct amount of water with the noodles and then the rest of the ingredients. It kinda scared me. I have used them a few times per week and think I have a good handle on how to use them and clean them. I actually keep them on the counter, because I quite often have yogurt going in one, and will be using the second one imminently . Thanks for your videos!!
Hi…. I just got an instant pot and not having much luck. I have used it twice and both times the burn warning came on. I was confused how to set the timer and heat. I am lost. Lol. Today I got it out and the smell of onion and garlic is bad. Any help you can give I would appreciate.
I just got the duo plus 6 qt and this is a great cleaning video, thanks. I use Barkeeper's Friend for cookware to clean stainless pots and pans, works great and easy to use.
Thank you for this video. You are very thorough and straight forward with explanations. FYI - I have found that a cleaning product called Bar Keepers Friend does a great job with cleaning the removable pot.
Thanks so much, New to my instant pot and can't rave enough. I love your videos (I have learned so much from them.) Your tips and recipes are so appreciated. I would get one of your cool shirts but just outta my budget.
Hi Kristen, I have a cleaning tip for removing rice stains on bottom of pot. If you pour a couple of tablespoons of distilled white vinegar in bottom of pot and let that sit a few minutes, stains lift right off with a little rubbing and looks brand new. I rinse the vinegar out and dry the pot and put it away for next time. I think I will try using vinegar on the ring seal too since you mentioned it can get a little smelly. Thanks for all you do. Love your channel.
I use bar keepers friend with a soft cloth to clean my pots. Soap and water for everything else. I also put my lid upside down when I'm done using it. Don't know if it makes any difference but it just seemed like a logical thing to do. I did not know that I could remove the float and cap. Thanks for your video.
Very helpful, thanks! I followed right along with you and cleaned my pot perfectly! And yes, I do have e-cloths already, I love them. And will be using them for my Instant Pot.
For all my stainless steel if it gets spots I just soak the bottoms using vinegar and baking soda. It foams off and after a couple hours it looks brand new. Thanks for the vid. I’m ready to clean out the nooks and crannies. And I love the towels. Thank you.m❤️
nice instructive video, in Europe, the main problem is the rubber gasket....$20 dollars (!). One can clearly see that part is worth maybe 2 dollars but they do it because you have no other choice.
Not sure if it’s ok to post a link, but since e-cloth is sponsoring this video, maybe so. This cloth is so great! We use it to clean eyeglasses perfectly, all the fronts of my stainless appliances (toaster, Ipot, Berkey, fridge, dishwasher, etc) even my gas stovetop after cleaning any baked on food or debris. On sale now, too! www.ecloth.com/products/10904_4-glass-polishing-cloths
Wonderful tips! My Instant Pot was NOT coming up to pressure. Looks like my Silicone ring was not fully inserted and I needed to clean a bit around that outside snarly edge..but the wet washcloth worked great! I am now making a cheesecake in the pot and it just came up to pressure so I am a happy cooker🥰🥰Thank you so much for these tips that are easy to do, and best of all really work!! Love your videos. Keep em coming in the New Year 2021! ‼️🍾🥂Merry Christmas!🎄🎁
Personally, I put the sealing ring, the metal valve cap and the condensation catcher in the dishwasher after every use. Sealing ring on the top rack. Instant pot says that those parts are dishwasher safe. I clean the top of the instant pot in the sink with soapy water. I don't immerse it in the water just use a soapy sponge on the inside and carefully rinse it well then, dry it. Other than that, I clean it much the same as you do.
I've seen other YTs soak the ring in a water and vinager solution to neutralize odors in silicone ring and barkeepers friend to polish the cooking pot to remove discoloration and water spots. How do you clean the pressure valve on the top? I used mine to make pho and did not expect so much fat to be released from the bone broth 😅
One thing that works incredibly well .To clean my instant inner pot is Bar Keepers Friend. It's Amazing!!!!It gets out any food residue & discoloration. Just a little bit goes a long way.In no time at all, your instant inner pot will look sparkling & brand new😉
I deep clean my pot after five or six uses. I get a dishwasher tab and put it in the pot and fill the pot with hot water. I set the pot on high pressure for ten minutes and let it go through the cycle with a natural release. Presto , the stainless steel is clean as a whistle. I will rinse all the other parts with clear water and dry. Works for me
while I do not use my instant pot every day. I do immediately put the whole lid in dishwater when I finish cooking. I remove the ring and the little strainer cover and clean them with a dishcloth. I then wash the lid completely exercising the float valve to make sure water flows through it and cleans it out. I then rinse and put the lid in the empty side of the sink because a lot of water comes out of it. It air dries and I reassembly when dry. I never have issues with smells this way. I will disassemble the float valve from now on. I did not know how to remove it. Thanks.
@@cnyreview3632 wow, guess I'll have to read my manual again since I didn't think I could put the lid in the dishwasher. I normally don't have enough room for those large items, but it's good to know you can and save time 👍
I use a little plastic Tupperware tool for cleaning TW lids I've had forever to clean the crevice around the top And a general purpose cleaning cloth for everything else!
Thanks for the tips. My older IP was whistling…. I changed the gasket, still whistling….. watched your video and went to clean the pin and wholla, The silicone “nipple” has a hole in it. Going on IP site to get one.
I thought the lid and parts could be put in water. NO? Please advise. Also, the clear silicone ring already in the lid is the silicone needed. The colored ring is an extra in case I need it at a later date? Please advise.
If Barkeeps Friend is alright to use on my All Clad pots and pans why not use it in on these Instant Pot liners. I've been using it on my Zavor liner with great success when black beans stain it and am tempted to do the same with my new IP.
The part near the float valve. It looks like a screen cap. Mine won't pop off and I am afraid I will dent or scratch the lid if I force it with a screw driver. Any suggestions?
Is baking soda gentle enough (with a wash cloth or plastic scrubbie) for the inner pot? I can't see anywhere in the manual yes or no on this. Ive been cooking straight chicken and water, and on certain areas it gets a big caked on and just soap and water, even soaking is not enough. Also, the trivet gets the same but worse. And soap and water soak, even toothbrush scrub didn't reach it all well. Thanks!
Hi I used my instant pot 3qt. Mini duo to make bbq pulled pork. Afterwards when I removed all the pork roast out I washed the silver pan in dawn dish soap and my instant pot still smells any ideas would be great that was the first time using it.
Is the pressure release valve on the top of the lid supposed to come off? When cleaning the little basket piece on the inside of the lid my valve/lever on the outside came off. Thanks!
Great Tips! Thank you! Use Bar Keeper's Friend to clean the stainless steel pot! Makes it look brand New! Since I bought the IP, I use around 11-12 times a week, if not more! I have a mini 3 QT LUX. LOVE IT! Toothbrush works great in hard to see & reach places. PLUS those long skinny brushes (Bottle cleaners?) I will look into those cleaning cloths. Very Nice! OMGosh, the sweetest Good-bye, at the end just melted my heart!
I have a question why you don’t wash it with water and soap the lid I did rice pudding and I made a mess it was my first time using it so I had to take everything apart your video help me a lot but I water the whole lid I don’t know if I did wrong
Hi dear I’ve got my ipot duo sv and I made chicken in it and let it naturally venting but the float valve didn’t go down so I had to put it down manually Just wondering is it normal or mine is defected? Thanks
Thanks for the tips. You read my mi d on those pesky water spots. BTW looked at other vids and said “I’m going back to Kristen, so easy to follow”. Thanks for the training.
When my stainless steel pot used in the Novo 6 qt. gets stained, I use Barkeepers Friend. It does not scratch and it makes it shine better than new. I am not choosy about the cloth.
I liked how you went the extra step and showed how you cleaned the tiny parts on the lid! Very helpful!
After seeing this video I cleaned the pop up and the inside of the pressure release. I just love you videos. So professional.
Glad I could help!
A couple things I use that you didn't mention is I have several kitchen brushes I use only on pots and pans (including my cast iron and nonstick) and it reaches into many of the crevices in the lid. Me too, much easier
You put the lid, with the valve and basket thingy in the dishwasher? I wasn't sure if it was immersible or not? Thank you
Is the entire lid immersible and dishwasher safe?
You use the same ring for savory and sweet foods? I wish I had a dishwasher.
First time user so needed to know how to clean it. Was so helpful. Thank you.
You are more than welcome!
I just got an instant pot for Christmas and made a roast in it for dinner for the first time tonight and I had to TH-cam how to clean it, it looks like a mess this was super helpful so thank you!
Thanks for the tips. I do take off the ring and clean it but was not sure of the little valve, now I know. Thanks 😃

I take the sealing ring out and put the entire top in the dishwasher on the top rack. I also put the sealing ring on the top rack as well. After the dishwasher is done, I put the sealing ring in the freezer. That helps to keep the ring from stretching and also helps with the smells.
Thanks for the videos, especially this video and the other videos that your cute kid appears there which gives an extra boost to the video.
That was wonderful.
Cleaning our new one after first use. She's out shopping and will see your vid tonight.
Love the little helper!

Thanks for the tips. Definitely learned a few things. Also your Beef Stroganoff is a family favorite over here. Cheers.

Thanks for your video. Can you please tell me how often you do a deep clean or how often should you clean it?
A few times a year I deep clean it!
The foam craft brushes work great for getting into the grooves where the lid spins around to close it.
Thank you so much for showing me this because I just got my instant pot the crisp but I would like for you to show the air fryer top how you clean it
Thanks so much, New to my instant pot and can't rave enough. I love your videos (I have learned so much from them.) Your tips and recipes are so appreciated. I would get one of your cool shirts but just outta my budget.

One of the sponges you are using is covered so you cant see it when it gets moldy , spong gets moldy when it doesn't dray immediately .
Nice content 👍
For all my stainless steel if it gets spots I just soak the bottoms using vinegar and baking soda. It foams off and after a couple hours it looks brand new. Thanks for the vid. I’m ready to clean out the nooks and crannies. And I love the towels. Thank you.m❤️
nice instructive video, in Europe, the main problem is the rubber gasket....$20 dollars (!). One can clearly see that part is worth maybe 2 dollars but they do it because you have no other choice.
Bartenders friend! Cleaning the stainless steel is a shinning wonder!
I also like to polish the stainless steel parts of the Instant Pot with the e-cloth glass polishing cloth...makes it look brand new!
Lynette Strickland ooooooh! Tell me more! I’m going to have to check that one out!

Is this how you clean the lid after every use? Extremely new to the instant pot. Thx
Colleen Beamer has to plall0
I've seen other YTs soak the ring in a water and vinager solution to neutralize odors in silicone ring and barkeepers friend to polish the cooking pot to remove discoloration and water spots. How do you clean the pressure valve on the top? I used mine to make pho and did not expect so much fat to be released from the bone broth 😅
I NEED to clean mine! Thanks!
Awesome thanks. Thank You for all the recipes.
I have a question regarding the sealing knob. The knob on my IP is really loose, is that the way its suppose to be or did I get a lemon IP 😝
Nope - are you fine! They are all really loose!
I worried about the same thing! But watching IP videos I noticed the ones in the videos were 'wobbly' too (..whew..).
@@SixSistersStuff Awesome! Guess I'll get to cooking than 😄😄
One thing that works incredibly well .To clean my instant inner pot is Bar Keepers Friend. It's Amazing!!!!It gets out any food residue & discoloration. Just a little bit goes a long way.In no time at all, your instant inner pot will look sparkling & brand new😉
Sorry about my punctuation
This comment is for Six Sisters Stuff you're amazing I just love watching your TH-cam videos
Thanks.
lakeshadow100 that sounds great! I’ve been nervous to put it in my dishwasher, but I’m going to try it now!
@@SixSistersStuff She said she puts the lid in "dishwater". Don't think you can put it in the dishwasher 😊 LOL
@@cnyreview3632 wow, guess I'll have to read my manual again since I didn't think I could put the lid in the dishwasher. I normally don't have enough room for those large items, but it's good to know you can and save time 👍
Really great idea! I put my lid and washed it right up! Former coward here! Lid is now washed easily! Thank you bunches💃💃💃
Thank you! It is easy to forget about the nooks and crannies. This might actually be one of your most important IP videos- basic maintenance.
I use a little plastic Tupperware tool for cleaning TW lids I've had forever to clean the crevice around the top And a general purpose cleaning cloth for everything else!
Good afternoon. I use a spoon with the cloth to go around the lip.
Laura Djordjevic such a great idea!
Six Sisters' Stuff to
i just use soap and water and let it air dry.. but i like this too.. btw, thank you for all the recipes.
Nice video. The high quality of the device helps make cleaning easier. I've seen some other brands that don't clean as well.
Thanks for the tips. My older IP was whistling…. I changed the gasket, still whistling….. watched your video and went to clean the pin and wholla, The silicone “nipple” has a hole in it. Going on IP site to get one.
This is such a needed and great post!!
I thought the lid and parts could be put in water. NO? Please advise. Also, the clear silicone ring already in the lid is the silicone needed. The colored ring is an extra in case I need it at a later date? Please advise.
Do I have to clean the ring and valve every day after cooking or only once in a while?
If Barkeeps Friend is alright to use on my All Clad pots and pans why not use it in on these Instant Pot liners. I've been using it on my Zavor liner with great success when black beans stain it and am tempted to do the same with my new IP.
Thanks for the tips I will try those
The part near the float valve.
Thanks!
THANKS for the info! I learned a few things 😁
Hi I used my instant pot 3qt. Mini duo to make bbq pulled pork. Afterwards when I removed all the pork roast out I washed the silver pan in dawn dish soap and my instant pot still smells any ideas would be great that was the first time using it.
What about removing the steam release on outside of the lid? I pulled it off and ran it under hot water, good or bad?
Same..why does no one mention this piece???
Very cute helper you have there !!!
You should try Norwex cloths, they are amazing!
Love your videos 🤗
What about cleaning the condensation cup?
Dish soap and water or top rack of the dishwasher. I've been doing both methods for years
I am new at this, just did my water test...when cooking, how much steam should be coming out of the pressure release valve?
For th inside of the stainless steel pot, I use Bar Keepers Friend cleanser with great success. You can buy it at your grocery store.
PLUS those long skinny brushes (Bottle cleaners?)
I will look into those cleaning cloths.
Hi dear I’ve got my ipot duo sv and I made chicken in it and let it naturally venting but the float valve didn’t go down so I had to put it down manually
Just wondering is it normal or mine is defected?
Thanks
Very helpful!!
Can I use microfiber cloths instead? Would that work to clean the instant pot?
Thanks for the tips. You read my mi d on those pesky water spots. BTW looked at other vids and said “I’m going back to Kristen, so easy to follow”. Thanks for the training.
Ohh love this video. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks Penny! Have a good night! 😘
Thanks so much! Great video!
Helpful video thanks ‘
Thank you lady 🙏
Much better instructions than their “manual” provides
Is this Pot an 8 quart? I just bought a 6 wt Ultra. It seems tiny to me!
🤔 I don’t know about you, but I find deep cleaning very therapeutic & relaxing. Tfs #Godbless 💙
When my stainless steel pot used in the Novo 6 qt. gets stained, I use Barkeepers Friend. It does not scratch and it makes it shine better than new. I am not choosy about the cloth.
