Military Surplus Camping | Freezing Cold

- A solo military surplus camping trip using cheap and reliable military surplus which is often a very good choice if you look for tough equipment that will last you.
I'm building a shelter using a military tent tarp, no cordage tripod, doing some cooking, working around the camp and sleeping in just a wool blanket. I used minimal gear without going to extreme though.

iswildexplorer thank you so much! What's your bag in the video though? The one you list here is the lk35... :-)
@@forsephora44 looks like the Romanian army surplus rucksack. I bought one from Varusteleka.com awhile ago. They still have them in stock for $45.99 USD. Description from the site "Today it will cause spontaneous soiling of the pants among the vintage/retro fanatics, including us" lol. Sold as Romanian Retro pack around 40 liters capacity.
Daniel Sayers thank you man!
@@tbob8212 all the descriptions on this website are hilarious !
@@forsephora44 yes they are :) although I have spent a good chunk of coin there.
A great pleasure to discover a Romanian bushcrafter! Love the country, love the simplicity of your gear and approach. Thank you.
👍 Good video. Especially liked how you carried a Swedish Mess Kit in a simple camping system.
The addition of rocks really is ingenious for heat retention take care brotha!!(=✌💚
Minunat !
Growing up with limited means, surplus was the way to go. Bought or begged and borrowed.
Great video. Brought back a lot of good memories.
improvised shelters are fun. have done several as a winter operation instructor. it builds character and confidence
Awesome video. Love military surplus. Thanks for taking us along. Have a blessed one my friend
Thanks a lot for watching BushCraftBums! Have an amazing week 🖖
I had just gotten me that same backpack from ebay wanted one for some time now and love it, searched for it here on youtube to try and find out the propper way it is used used, great video, love the scenery, just subbed.
I love the Surplus store. The camo jackets have so many pockets you can just pack it & run in an energency
Don't try that with the pants, unless it's soft gear like cordage, bandages, etc. The heavier/denser item can play H@ll on your legs while walking along the trail! Think a mess-kit hanging down low on either side from a belt. That's another thing. Wear bushcraft items on the belt across it, if they're long or heavy enough.
Wow. I love the knots
Learned several great camping tricks in this video.
Foarte tare, părerea mea că l-ai depășit pe Cezar Outdoors cu editarea! M-am abonat!
👍 great vid mate, got that backpack too.
Looked like a great little trip, it using a tarp half as long as you was very odd, and certainly lucky for you it didn't rain.
the old ways rule. i made sure to acquire a wool blanket to add to my Jeep emergency kit.for a vehicle mounted set up the weight and extra size is not an issue. great vid there :)
Brother that food looked fantastic
Greetings from Northern Ireland.....subscribed
I’ve got both the large and small Romanian rucks. Great packs .
Great vid thanks for posting.
I winced when your blade touched the stone ekkk!
Awesome video 👍 Simple, concise and self explanatory even without speech!! Loved it and look forward to more videos. Thank you!
I just stumbled upon your channel, this is my first video. Simple, yet genius. I love your vid cam work and editing. And your camp craft is outstanding. I sub'd and can't wait to watch all of your videos.
Thanks so much for watching! 🖖
I realy enjoy watching your videos. You have a very stylish ways of doing things
Thank you very much for watching! 🖖
Great place to camp, nice fire and food and the weather did not look too bad either. Looks like a great trip, cheers Alan
Thanks so much Alan!
Spring is starting to show up around here. Take care!
Alan METALMAN - Hiking & Outdoors and
Really nice scenery and good skills, add to that a lack of gadgets and endless chatter and this was a very good video. Thank you very much from the eastern U.S.
Thanks a lot for watching! 🖖
great video. low key cool camping. better than all that US army jibber jabber. . question for you.. why do you put pine sprigs in your water? is it a tea?
Fantastic location and skills. Thanks for taking me alone, really like the knot you made for tying down the ridgeline. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏼🤛🏼🤠
Thanks a lot for watching ! 🖖
@@iswildexplorer You're welcome! Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Martin
Frumos uite ca se poate și în România. Ma bucur sa vad tot mai multi pasionați de bushcraft
This brings back fond memories. Thanks for bringing us along. Safe trails my friend!
Good skills and good photography. What more could you ask for?
I love the Swiss Army blanket TERD, I own several by that Swiss canton - best bivouac blanket ever made.
Frumoasa iesire. Si mie imi place echipamentul ce provine din surplusuri militare. Sunt de parere ca inca pot face fata cu brio iesirilor in natura indiferent de conditii.
Awesome video, loved the whole thing, particularly that there's no speaking in it. You are a great fellow.
Title is a bit misleading tho...it wasn't exacly freezing cold there. But I'm glad I watched it, felt good.
Super!
That spool and security of paracord method wins this video a like ahaha
This was a great video. Beautiful area.
Glad you enjoyed it
Foarte Bine ;) Already subscribed !
great video,I am glad I found your channel, thanks
John Rambo camping ! “Don’t push it or I give you a war you won’t believe “ John J
Very nice! Looks like it was an awesome trip.
Thanks buddy. It was really nice. Even though I love snow I look forward to spring/summer and light gear :). Take care!
Jesse 😁✊🔥
hi. I have a little question.
I would buy this rucksack but I'm not sure to put anything else inside the rucksack after a sleeping bag! (some tools, food, a small book...).
what's your opinion? Can you put something more after sleeping bag or is too small?
hello, you're really good!
excuse the question, but I noticed your fantastic poncho.
can I know the brand and maybe where did you get it?
thank you so much!
thanks! It's a romanian army tent section that can be used as a poncho as well. You can probably find something similar at any army surplus store. ex: www.varusteleka.com/en/product/bw-two-man-tent-flecktarn-surplus/1337
@@iswildexplorer thank you very much, you have been very kind!
Nice video. I have same Romanian army backpack.
great ideas thanks
Very beautiful video, looking forward to more like this one, very very interesting, thank you for your work
Thank you so much for watching. Cheers!

Thanks so much for watching. Will do very soon! 🖖
Good idea... im from bushcrafter Indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩
thanks for watching buddy. greetings from Romania! 🖖
Nice trip loved the gear
Glad you enjoyed it 🖖
Great watch bud. Simple and effective. Best wishes to you 👍
Simple et bien donc efficace ! Bravo !
Nice video, subbed, ma bucur sa vad romani in comunitatea de bushcraft si filmari pe meleaguri romanesti, mult noroc, salutari din MI.
Multumesc Sorin. Toate bune!
Good video. Thoroughly entertained. Simple is the best!
Nice place to spend free time, away from urban area.
love the way you do your videos stay safe my friend will be watching more of your videos.
Nicely filmed and edited, breakfast looked delish!
Making me want to move back to Romania...
The only part of this video that I didn’t like was the it was too short. ✌️
Freezing cold, the swede is like ''Where is the 1 meter of snow?''
Awesome video, doing more with less. What was the quick release knot you used on your ridgeline?
Thanks a lot for watching! I'm not that good with knot names but I think it's called a slip knot.
Modul in care filmezi ma face sa ma simt ca si cum as fi eu in pielea ta! Mai e si editarea; "coagulata" dar "fluenta" in acelasi timp. Savuros videoclip, felicitari!
Ms mult Paul! 🖖
Great video thank you
Try using the back of your knife for striking a spark - won't damage the blade. Also, you didn't put your fire out correctly.
What were the berries you used the next morning?
Wow! Glad to have found your channel. Well done. New sub!
Where are you doing this? In what country?
România
another like for ego feeding, you little Spielberg....nice military tent section :))))) where you at bro? missin good times...think I have to bug out myself and yourself again soon...but make video with good, strong spirits ;)
just say the word bro :D
it would be acceptable to stash away one or two bottles of beer.
Don’t you think you should have cleared the area of all leaves and grass before lighting your fire, because the way you done it is a great way to start a bushfire, then leaving it unmanned while you find other items to use was completely irresponsible.
Everything was damp and there was still snow in some places, risk for a 🔥 to spread was pretty low. Thanks for watching!
Esti super tare
Ms mult! 🙂
1) Good job with the video! If not too personal, what part of RO are you from? (Half of my DNA came from a small city called Fagaras -- we are relatives (?)☺) Also have an email friend in Timisoara.
2) *Great idea* for the wood saw. I bet you *were* in the military. (i was)
3) One or two-man light weight tents are inexpensive, much warmer, more secure and a bear can't see what's inside. Gives you 2 more seconds to grab the 357 magnum. Here in the US we have the right to have hand guns while camping or backpacking. I have never gone without one and never had to use one. Except on a rattlesnake or two in camp at low elevations.
4) "Stay wild" from the California Sierra! 🇺🇸
Oops... PS:
·The dandelions you walked by are edible and very nutritious. Maybe you made tea from them.
·Looks like an American Indian Teepee tattoo on inside of your right wrist (0:35). I have Indian obsidian arrowheads and spearheads.
Thanks for watching bro! We use dandelions a lot, especially in salads.
I'm from Buzau. I wasn't in the military. I do own few tents but if you mean military surplus I don't think light weight concept applies :). I love almost everything about Native Americans.
🖖🖖🖖
@@iswildexplorer ...
Thanks!
You're right, light weight doesn't apply to the military!
I'm very interested in Native Americans too. (BTW, some say, call us Indians, not Native Americans! So I use both. Plus the Bureau of INDIAN Affairs is one mile from me:) I have a playlist called Original Americans. My favorites are the Modocs here in Northern California. I've gone through Captain Jack's Stronghold at the Lava Beds where the Modoc War was fought. Even have a frying pan with bullet holes in it from that war -- need to send it to a museum up at the site, tho. An excellent book about the war is _"Burnt Out Fires"_ by Richard Dillon.
Native Americans are the most neglected minority in my country. White immigrants like my predecessors committed genocide agains them, now we ignore them and let the children live in poverty -- *SHAMEFUL!* (like slavery was shameful... like many say our current government is shameful!!)
Sorry, just raving on, no need to reply! ☺
Felicitări pentru idee! Cum ți se pare surplusul militar?
Ms Viorel!
What a great video.
Why the sweater should’ve had on fatigues
Where’d you get the pants lol i like em
3.00: i had to look away, for the love of pete dear sir please use your knife SPINE. ;0
😅 no striker, no 90°
spine on Mora companion so I had to use the edge but under normal circumstances I would look away too 😊
@@iswildexplorer all good bro. i took a file to mine, it came up ok. use a bit of old hacksaw blade too sometimes. i dig ur folding bowsaw btw.
See the bro's reply below guys
Me too I cringed I hate that damn.
Don't worry he'll still have 4 fingers on that hand! Just don't lose the thumb and index finger. Kinda hard to get a grip on stuff without them.
I’ve seen that yellow wood on sin city
" Freezing cold".. just have to wear a t-shirt, lol.
There's snow around bro 😉
nice sweater
Thanks! I love it too 😌
nice video👍
Hi. Nice video bro)
Dude you set up camp in a flood zone.
Si eu sunt pasionat de bushcraft.
Am 12 ani dar cred ca varsta nu conteaza atunci cand iubesti natura.
#BushcraftRomania
Почему его не обгладали клещи?
You're quite abusive with that knife. The edge won't last forever. Once you sharpen away the temper, it's pretty much useless.
So this is what i can do with all the shit I bought on sportsman guide
Strike with edge of the knife for sparks??!!
yep. no striker, no 90degree spine on my companion thus edge 🖖
Using your knife edge to strike that ferro rod makes me cringe..
But.. people can't get army items..
Great channel. New subscriber here. I would love to collaborate with you somehow or even just give each other’s channels a shoutout. Keep up the great work buddy, & stay in touch. Ben from bushcraft basics with Ben.
Hey Ben! Thanks for sub. I subscribed to your channel, keep it up man. Cheers from Romania!
De ce surplus militar?
Ieftin și durabil.
really harcore
Smoky the Bear say clear the ground around a fire before you start it.
Fire just on the ground? You didn't even clear the dry grass and stuff around the fire area. You are a forest fire waiting to happen!
Ground was frozen.
"Freezing Cold" later that night - that didn't look like below 0 degrees C to me.
まだ生きてる木を利用するのは感心しませんね。
That meat was already cooked! WTS dude, lil it and eat it. or just get married and make a vid!
У меня тоже есть такое одеяло.
