Top man, wish we had as good reviewers in the UK. Always thorough and detailed reviews. I'm retired btw and about to order a facelift 7 R. So looking forward to your review, bit of a late life treat for me!, pretty sure this is the first facelift VW have done to the Golf in years. Used to be common. I have owned 50+ cars including every Golf mark GTI. Still unmatched.

I would always go for the DSG. I drive a 150hp Golf7 Diesel with DSG dont want anything else.

Great review, Thomas! The Golf is an awesome car indeed. I'm excited by the new Polo too and I can't wait for your brilliant review of that car. My former car was a Polo, but VW had halted its production years ago in Brazil. Now it returns with the same car sold in Europe with some adjusts to adapt it to our conditions here. thanks! If you want volume knobs, then leave out the top trim infotainment. Also there are knobs on the steering wheel that might help :) Hope you re doing fine!

Great Review keep up the good work!!! The fuel consumption is just impressive given the fact that its a new engine and needs some break in time,also for the driver to learn the car etc. I'm eager to see what mpg the 130hp bluemotion version is going to have, it might even make the 1.0 tsi useless.

Hi Thomas, good review, as always. In my opinion this is by far the best car channel on the YT.
Now, regarding the new 1.5 TSI - it would be great to test it again, BUT this time in city and on the autobahn also, 'cause 6 liters in the extra urban cycle on regional roads isn't a big deal (I can easily achieve this figure with my Octavia 1.8 TSI). Another thing, do You know can we get 2 cylinder mode if driving with cruise control ON at the higher speeds (between 130 - 150 km/h for e.g.)? It would be nice to see current consumption that way and compare it to normal, 4 cylinder regime of the same engine. Danke. :)

Thomas i updated my 2014 3 door night blue performance pack gti for a 2017 white 7.5 5 door performance pack gti with bresecia alloys , my old car was great but I can't believe how much better the mk7.5 is .keep up the great reviews

I like how in Europe, they can equip the regular Golf with all of the tech. Luxury car features without a luxury car price, and still excellent fuel economy.
I love my Golf R facelift, but the fuel economy is killing me with the rising gas prices here in Los Angeles.

I find your reports hugely more informative on the everyday running of the vehicles rather than the nit picking A*****r reporters than seem obsessed with the handling at 11/10s and whether they caught their fingernail when opening the glovebox for want of something to criticise.

Great review. I never liked cars with small triangle windows in front of the mirrors though. I wish they would have made the door just a cm and have a single large window, as I find those small triangle windows more often harm visibility than improve it

I've watched and enjoyed your reviews for quite a while and have often felt tempted to write and bring your attention to a couple mistakes you make regularly in English - don't misununderstand, your English is excellent and the little errors sound charming!
However, there are a couple of terms you use regularly that I understand because I speak German and spend part of my time in Germany, but I've often wondered if people who don't speak German always understand.
Yesterday a friend who also enjoys your videos asked me what exactly you meant by "variants of the Golf" - so I think it is time to write to you.
1. The Golf Variant (in Germany) is called Golf Estate in the UK and Golf SportWagon in the USA. A Variant in English does not mean Estate nor Station Wagon.
2. To say that something on a car is "serienmäßig", the correct term is "it is standard". You like to say "from series" or "from serial", which in English is like talking about a Fernsehserie" and doesn't make sense. You can say, E.G. "LED lights come as standard on the upper trim levels," or "19 inch wheels are standard"
3. The word "gauge" (like speedometer or rev counter) is one of those silly English words: The pronunciation is "GAY-je". You pronounce it "GOR-je", written "gorge" which means "Schlucht".

Can't wait for the Golf R look as well! The current Golf R has really tight gear ratios, which isn't good for highway cruising. I hope the new 7 Speed DSG is better in this respect. Have you tested this gearbox in the GTI PP, or other VAG models? Hopefully we'll see a sunroof in NA this time as well :P

Many thanks Thomas. Great views through windscreen when driving. Interesting info at 57:46 - fine particles, petrol engines and future petrol particulate filters... On this 'update' they missed a trick by leaving out a HUD (which on the Tiguan is basic, but works!). I like DCC: on the MQB platform cars I've tried, it changes the character of the car from soft calm ride at slow speeds in town, to 'sporty' for much more response. I note from the UK website configurator (and the latest brochure) for the new Mk7.5 facelift, that the 1.5 TSI is not available! Cheers Thomas.

I love my mark 7 Golf 1.4 TSi, it averages 6 litres per 100 km from mainly town driving with the odd 15km stretch to the next village.

JB normal setup is quite good. But if you want more sporty handling then it is better to buy aftermarket coilovers instead of spend money on DCC.
GTI in curcuma would be amazing!
Nitrous Oxides are formed under heat. Diesels produce more of these because they operate at a higher temperature: Hence their efficiency, thermodynamically. I am more interested in your discussion of the 1.5 FSI, which seems to be a terrific compromise, since we all needdecent power to accelerate past slow vehicles. The 85PS pre-facelift petrol 1.2 ( non turbo) was very poor for this. Does cylinder de-activation produce asymmetrical wear, in the long run, say by 150K - 200K km? It is OK saving a bit of fuel but reliability shouldn't be compromised.

Did you check the 1.5 driving part? Getting into very much details there. And I also gave an extensive advice as for pre- and post-facelift buying decisions
Honestly i always said if there is a digital instruments as an option i would pick it, but i cant see it right with the GTI having digital dials. I would like it in my GTI but not worth the money

Answering my own question, in case anyone wonders. If you order trailer assist with rear view camera, you get the improved one. Otherwise it stays the same as before.
The camera in my Golf GTI 7.5 version has guidelines. I am fully satisfied with it 👍

Good question. I am sure they ll use the same new technologies in other engines yes, but not sure when they ll do it

It could be interesting to do a video on the features. How dose adaptive cruise control or traffic assist work with the manual transmission??
as I said in the driving part, there is noch such thing as traffic assist for manual gear box!
And ACC stops at 30 or 40 km/h with manual as it would stall the engine.
