I love the cockpit - great steering wheel with actual buttons, properly sized screens. Such a rare treat nowadays. Outside, this configuration is not my favorite though. Looks cheap with the silver accents.
Have to be honest I feel like Audi ran out of design ideas and decided there was nothing to lose by making cars uglier. The grill insert hook things are hideous, and the interior looks like a slab butchers’ station. I sorta give them credit for expression with grill at least. Here in States Audi peaked during late ‘90s into ‘00s and the Iron Man R8 was the crescendo. Downhill since.
I think all german automakers started in 23 selling their concept ideas with strange designs, that ones that was on hold before, because they were not sure about quality of these ideas, but when in 23 chinese EV started to conquer the markets - german's decided to use every concept they have, because even their concepts are outdated in comparing to chinese design of new production models. And thats why we are here, when Audi/BMW/Mercedes looks strange and ugly, when chinese models are beatiful.
Good to hear that the steering wheel leaning to the left is ‘normal’ . Got recently a new A4 and I thought it was already misaligned when using lane assist. Will ask Audi to fix. Keep up the good work!
I much prefer my 1st generation SQ8 (i purchased because of your review👍) i have the black grill facia package and i much prefer the look to that front view. Thanks again for turning me on to this…..mine is a 2021 and has 16,000 miles on it and it is returning a (long term) 17.6 mpg….it has way more power than i need but it is most intoxicating when used!😁 this is my 5th And possibly best Audi yet! My only complaint is that i wish the default of the start/stop engine feature was defaulted to OFF as where i live it is nuisance to turn it off every time i start driving, i understand the concept but not practical where i live. If drove in go/stop/go traffic it might make sense but not for me in town.
screens instead of buttons ❌ piano black ❌ dated outside design ❌ requires several body parts to be sold to afford it ❌ put buttons back and remove that piano black.. the look of the car does not look aggressive, it looks absurd
The way to go for me is to configure with OPTIC PACKAGE PLUS....the plastic chrome in the front is really terrible. Just like an exoskeleton from inside to outside.....the same as on the A8/S8.
Hi Thomas, The lack of body roll has nothing to do with passangers leaning to the sides. It can only make a difference if there is active leaning feature of the body in the opposite direction (like a motorcycle)
First, as usual on Autogefuehl. Great review but it's so sad that Audi has had the same models for almost 10 years. It needs new generations of the models, BMW has already released its new generation of cars, and Mercedes also, only Audi has the same design as the Q7 from 2015.
@autogefuehl I expect the new generation (like the next A6 e-tron you showed us a year ago) to take the market, but interiors must be completely new. Of course, I will know that moment has arrived when i see the notification from Autogefuehl for the first review of that new generation.. again, as usual 😄😉
I had a 2017 with the chassis package/rear wheel steering, V6. traded it in for a new cayenne w/o rear steering. The Q7 was significantly faster on entrance ramps. I didn't realize how much faster rear wheel steering helps in cornering. my first rear wheel steering was 2010 BMW 7 series
I own a Porsche Cayenne S and a Panamera GTS and both have one issue with the back up camera that I just don’t understand. The back up camera should go off immediately once the gear shift is select to drive. However with Porsche the rear camera remains on until you surpass 5 mph. The issue with this is if you are leaving a parking lot and with the navigation on you do not know if you have to make an immediate right or left out of the lot because the back up camera is blocking the navigation screen . A second fault is the hill hold which disengages when the engine cut off comes on causing you to roll backwards. I’m hoping you may have some influence at Porsche to make them aware of these flaws in design

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at th-cam.com/video/S1aNZeoatmE/w-d-xo.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable. A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: th-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/w-d-xo.html And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: th-cam.com/video/6vXePQi_MAk/w-d-xo.html New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html More and more natural materials are rising: th-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/w-d-xo.html Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest: www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? Remember that animal skin leather is no different to fur, fur is just leather where the hair is still on. And fur is widely not accepted for clothing anymore, and of course not for cars. We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future. For a great insight into sustainability in the automotive industry, you can also check out our extensive documentary: th-cam.com/video/-8gNXlRGngA/w-d-xo.html
If I had the money and happened to be on the market for one of the SUVs from this segment, I would definetly go for an SQ8. It has the better styling overall in my opinion and mixes the perfect balance bewteen all of his brothers from Porshce, VW and Bentley. Great review as always Thomas and bless you Lia haha
I like everything about the car except the silver detailing (which can be replaced when ordering the car) and the 2D logos looks cheap for some reason.. so blacked out options is a must. I prefer the german voice telling me my phone is still in the car :) I have swedish voice, and it sounds synthetic compared to this german voice. I also have matt plastic on some parts.. but agree, would love if all high gloss plastic and touchscreen could be matte. edit: the 12v plug in the cup holders were... kind of a bad idea.. since I have had many times that the drivethru have overfilled the cup, and the new paper cups tops, create a suction, so the liquid goes out of the cup by itselfs.. and runs down, and on in this car maybe into the 12v plug.
Sorry but bruhhh So much inconsistency like in the facelift of S3. New logo outside, old logo inside, same with the badge,…. No S badge in front is pathetic as well. Someone should be fired in the designers team. I dont mind the new logos, but be consistent in the design!! Thats the reason why I will not order the new S3 It looks like someone said we have some old seats to use, lets use them…. No thank you, for a car of that kind of a price…. Bruh
Look. There is a rule in the design that you do not mix and match things. If they have chosen to take the new logo and the new “S” logo it should be inside and outside the same logo. Eavn on the engine deck it should be the same logo!!! I do hope you understand that. And what is Audi doing with the mix and match now is just pathetic!!! I hope they dont screw the S5 avant the same way, otherwise I might just buy the corrola atleast it have the same design inside out. It is eavn more reliable then Audi 😅
@@zigimun Totally get that! I wish they never changed the logo in the first place... But my faith is not lost in Audi, compared to BMW and Mercedes, their new gen cars (Q6, Q4) are looking pretty good... I think all the next gen cars are going to look better than competitors!
Idk I was entusiastic about new S3 and now I am realy just considering Toyota Corolla GR, cuz the new S3 is a mess. But its a facelift (still horrible) Mybe the new gen will be better, but since the A5 Avant is basicaly Passat I do not have high hopes
The front mask with plastic looks cheap... not a 100.000€ car 🤦 And to add not a hatter but an Audi Fan !! And dont get me talking with the Electric version is more plastic looking and the Q6 etron...!!
A great review, but of something which is going fast out of date. Maybe a last chance to get a V8 biturbo before it is all EVs. It is good to see VW getting more proper buttons back, but still too much glossy and touch screen, especially at the price. I am afraid this car just does not excite me.
At first glance, it looks very similar to its previous version; however, there are several subtle differences that, imho, result in an overall considerably more attractive proposition compared to its predecessor. Good job Audi! Oh, and, as usual, thank you for the accurately detailed and extensive review.
@autogefuehl I have a 2020 model year Q7 which has the same centre armrest solution, that armrest has a rachet mechanism so you can lock it in slightly higher position - this serves two purposes as it makes it easier to actually rest your arm on AND it lets you put a phone and cable underneath with no problems.
Thomas did a great job in doing a professional, positive review of this car. He must have gone through several sick bags when he first caught sight of it. It doesn’t look like what you’d expect of an SQ8. Looks entry level or an ‘elegance’ edition, for a man in his 70’s who likes to have a hat and box of tissues on the rear parcel shelf.
Sign of success, just Googled Ferrari 12 Cylindri & EVERY presenter is imitating your presentation, you're tallest so you still own it. Imitation sincerest form of flattery, but short dudes look kinda silly trying.
The new grill and headlights are ugly. I actually don't mind piano black. It's the wood inlays I think are ugly, and always ill prefer either aluminum or carbon fiber.
Ofc it looks worse than the previous one, Disgusting new front grill looks like it was stolen from a cheap chinese or Korean EV SUV. I believe that slowly they'll make the interior uglier too like the long tablet designs in BMW and Mercedes. A4 and A5 still have great looking interiors, The best looking ones in my opinion.

God someone make the piano black plastic use in interiors stop
Honda and Acura don't use them, and I think Hyundai avoids it depending on the model. I hope other manufacturers follow that anti-gloss trend.
and outside too
Audi is the worst offender of this. Then BMW, mercedes is improving quickly. They started to offer different center console trim last year that removes all the gloss black. Just gotta get rid of it on the steering wheel too.

Varnished wood can look good.
I took mine in to a PPF guy, he wrapped the interior gloss black in matte. It looks great, and I see very little fingerprints. Very happy with it
I really like the silver mirror caps. Even better when they were real aluminum mirror caps.
I totally agree regarding the glossy inside and other opinions like the shifting leaver, the steering wheel and the AC control of the A4 B9 I think you talk about. Great job, Thomas.
Hope to see more of Lea in these videos again soon - she’s been a great addition :)
I love the cockpit - great steering wheel with actual buttons, properly sized screens. Such a rare treat nowadays. Outside, this configuration is not my favorite though. Looks cheap with the silver accents.

Love Audi! Previous Q8 looked better though...
IMO the new Cayenne looks better too
The dreaded piano black 😂
You think car companies would try and be different from one another in interior design. Obviously I was wrong !
When one company finds a super cheap material to use, everyone else will obviously copy. It's all about cost-cutting
Hi Thomas,
The lack of body roll has nothing to do with passangers leaning to the sides. It can only make a difference if there is active leaning feature of the body in the opposite direction (like a motorcycle)
Sounds surprisingly well.
It's the same as the previous version, just with a cheaper interior and a higher price. Sadly the trend for the whole industry
I’m sorry but what was the design department thinking. That new front is ugly as hell. And Audi is more and more becoming inconsistent.
First, as usual on Autogefuehl. Great review but it's so sad that Audi has had the same models for almost 10 years. It needs new generations of the models, BMW has already released its new generation of cars, and Mercedes also, only Audi has the same design as the Q7 from 2015.
thanks m8 ! Ye Audi does have some serious delays in renewals

The front grill looks great, but...🤔 the matte silver color extends to the turn signal lamp, which spoils the whole thing a bit.
Awesome review as usual. This facelift seems tamed in comparison with the non facelift.
Seems very well made

Beautiful timeless exterior design. Minus the silver accents front and back IMO.
Still got the 2018 interior
In 3 to 5 years that interior will full of scratches on that piano black😂😂

Hi Thomas, I have to admit to the Germans the new Audi SQ8 facelift!
You think car companies would try and be different from one another in interior design.🤩🤩🤩
I like the design of the Q8. Don't know if I can stomach the $$$$ for an SQ8, though. (Aw, Lea gets a ❤ in Thomas's contacts.)
In North America, people complain about not getting real leather as standard.

Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest:
www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html
In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter.

@@autogefuehl super! Nobody could ever have said that better👍
Previous generation looks WAY better
If I had the money and happened to be on the market for one of the SUVs from this segment, I would definetly go for an SQ8. It has the better styling overall in my opinion and mixes the perfect balance bewteen all of his brothers from Porshce, VW and Bentley. Great review as always Thomas and bless you Lia haha
Audis are not ugly but not pretty. It’s better than BMWs.
19:53 gesundheit :)
Tell us about the engine + gear performance
I think this may get on my shortlist to replace my S4 B9 TFSi. RSQ8 being so expensive
2:58 From the back this looks like Suzuki fronx that comes for $10k lol...
🤧 Leah, get well soon
thanks =)
Sorry but bruhhh
So much inconsistency like in the facelift of S3. New logo outside, old logo inside, same with the badge,…. No S badge in front is pathetic as well.
Someone should be fired in the designers team.
I dont mind the new logos, but be consistent in the design!! Thats the reason why I will not order the new S3
It looks like someone said we have some old seats to use, lets use them…. No thank you, for a car of that kind of a price…. Bruh
i think having the 3d logo on steering wheel is better, because it looks much better than the new 2d one 😂
But its a facelift (still horrible)
Mybe the new gen will be better, but since the A5 Avant is basicaly Passat I do not have high hopes
The front mask with plastic looks cheap... not a 100.000€ car 🤦
And to add not a hatter but an Audi Fan !!
And dont get me talking with the Electric version is more plastic looking and the Q6 etron...!!
I wouldn't praise the design of the cars of any of the bigger German manufacturers if we go down this line...
a stupid comment from a hater on the first Page!
@@erdbeerfeldheld007 i am not a hatter I AM A FAN OF AUDI !!! and dont know what Mark Lichte was.thinking.with the mask !!!!

It looks like Saab before bankruptcy.
Audi SQ 8 este visul meu care sper să devină realitate .
Can we stop with the "q" series for a while and give the "a" series some love please?
A great review, but of something which is going fast out of date. Maybe a last chance to get a V8 biturbo before it is all EVs.
It is good to see VW getting more proper buttons back, but still too much glossy and touch screen, especially at the price. I am afraid this car just does not excite me.
silver trim on the outisde looks really cheap and absurd.
this with the v8 diesel, best all around sporty suv in the market.
You are a conoisseur
This engine was supposed to go into the S6, not the V6.
I bought A6 all-road 2022, 2 liters , 4 cylinder, is great. V8 is not resilient.
At first glance, it looks very similar to its previous version; however, there are several subtle differences that, imho, result in an overall considerably more attractive proposition compared to its predecessor. Good job Audi! Oh, and, as usual, thank you for the accurately detailed and extensive review.
V8, That's enough for me
Q8 or Cayenne ??
The front end looks like "The Jokermobile"
It looks like a car from 2015
Oh dear, they’ve fucked this up big time!!
Thanks! Yeah I know this upper setting, however this does not make that big block underneath less dangerous!
Whats with the solver accents? It makes it look cheap.
The revisions to the exterior are awful.
I love our ‘21 Q7 Prestige and this looks like a definite upgrade.
Yes , Too much piano black. The placement of the phone charger is unacceptable. ( Another Deal Breaker)
The front end is hideous.
The vent knobs on either side of the touchscreen within the piano black looks very amateurish !
It would certainly be a very nice car, but here with black optics please...
Maybe rename Audi - "Oldie". Interior needs a desperate redesign. Grill with the fish hooks needs a rethink.
Love how suv's keep getting smaller and nobody notices
Sign of success, just Googled Ferrari 12 Cylindri & EVERY presenter is imitating your presentation, you're tallest so you still own it. Imitation sincerest form of flattery, but short dudes look kinda silly trying.
Rival for Merc GLE BMW X6
The new grill and headlights are ugly. I actually don't mind piano black. It's the wood inlays I think are ugly, and always ill prefer either aluminum or carbon fiber.
Piano Black is the worst interior material ever for cars!!
Hey Thomas , It's me Thomas
The body is great. What about of V8 engine? Is resilient??? What about of transmission shafts? Those are able to take power from gear shaft?
a dream
€150k -Are Audi having a laugh?!!!
It looks like a big a3
As for me, whole design language is outdated. It basically don't fit in 2024, no way for 2025.
At near 100k km transmission is dead and also engine shaft is dead
omg what model year ?
Those new audi rings are awful
Looks like Citroën now)))
