    Molly’s memory will be in our hearts forever. Thanks so much for all the support and loving words from you all. The critters on the farm are doing ok & this vlog is a good update on everything going on while we adjust to not having our best girl around. Enjoy the episode 💜💜💜

    Chad, you are in the ‘stages of grief’ right now and it is indeed what it is. It’s hard to believe that one day the thoughts of Molly will bring smiles and not tears, but it will. Your land will sooth your sadness and give you back your zest for life. Patience my friend, you are not alone on this journey, but are in the hearts and minds of lots and lots of us.

    What ifs won't change what happened. Sometimes accidents happen. Tragic as they may be, they are simply accidents. Don't punish the other animals and deny them the freedom offered by the farm out of fear over what might or could occur. It couldn't have been prevented unfortunately.

  • @pbro8139
    @pbro8139 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    To allow Olive to roam around the farm get her a Halo collar - you can program it to where she can't go. They can be expensive - I would donate and I'm sure many of your followers would pitch in as well so Olive can still roam.

    • @ZippedUpKitz
      @ZippedUpKitz 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      OMG…. I just actually recommended this! My brother lost one of his dogs to the exact same thing last summer… he put in an electric fence system that has a shock collar for Bear and Deer (that’s the names of his other two dogs. He's a Hunter lol) it wasn't very expensive but it wasn't programmable either… after about a month of getting zapped several,times, Bear and Deer stopped going anywhere near the boundary line and my brother was able to turn off the collars… he does turn it on every now and then if the boys start to get "brave" and get too close… but I think this would work for Chad too… and Olive is smart enough she would figure it out real fast as well…

  • @brendaogle-em7if
    @brendaogle-em7if 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Chad another thought. Put signs up entering your property and along the drive.....Drive slow no faster then 5 miles an hour. Animals running free..... anyway something like that. Please don't keep Olive tied up

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ll be doing that, it’s in the works now. For now Olive needs to be protected but it really depends on the type of guest. Sone guests just arrive for a few nights and don’t leave until checkout but others like this guest now are here for several weeks and come & go regularly. We’ll get there though, we’ll figure out what’s best. The cats are also out and about but they usually run away from cars and machinery.

      @@HiddenSpringFarm It's so horrendous! My little jack Russell, Lily, was run over by a truck in front of me and killed. The driver didn't even notice and kept going! I was just yards from my house, I live in a cul-de-sac and had her on a lead but she just bolted from me. It was so traumatising because I blamed myself for not having a firmer grip. You just have to wonder why these freakish accidents happen. Anyway, I just want you to know that you will heal and your heart will always stay warm knowing you brought an awful lot of happiness to Molly when she was alive.

    Hello Canadian friend! My husband and I have only followed your adventures since moving in to our new and first home and farm. You, your wife and animals have captivated our hearts and I’ve gotten so much wisdom from you both on gardening and animals. When I saw what happened to Molly I cried with you 😭 Molly and Olive are amazing dogs and fur babies.
    This morning, we were blessed to bring an 8 week old Australian shepherd into our home. Was not planned! I immediately thought of you and your beloved dog, so we named her Molly. She will be an amazing sheep herder. I shared this with you so that you’ll know in some small way, Your Molly lives on in name of another. Bless your heart..

    The balance between protecting animals and allowing freedom is so difficult. After I Iost my beautiful puppy being hit by a car when I was 16, I have spent the last 61 years trying to balance giving freedom to my pets and keeping them safe. Like with Bubbles, it isn’t easy and I don’t always feel I did it right with my dogs and cats maybe being over protective.
    I guess in the old days horses trampled dogs and carriages ran over them too. And diseases like rabies and distemper without vaccines took lives freely. It’s just a dangerous world but as iffy as life is sometimes, I guess we just have to do our best and be thankful for the blessings that do surround us, a day at a time.
    The goslings are so darn cute and love watching the crops grow. ❤❤

    Probably all of us watching your channel are animal lovers so we know it's extremely sad and difficult to loose a beloved pet/child. Time makes it easier Hey Chad what about letting Olive run free as normal when there are no farm guest. It's not healthy physically or mentally for Olive to stay tied up and not run free as normal. Or perhaps make the road in the open and not close to brush and trees so the view is wide open. Couldn't help but see something coming in front of the guests car. ❤ Love you and your darling channel

      I really should have touched on it a bit more as i see in the comments about Olive. Of course with a bit more communication with guests Olive will be free. Most of the time we don't even have guests so Olive will be free. Some guests just arrive, stay a few days and checkout so in those cases Olive will be free, only leashed when cars are expected.

  • @uglyDIY

    Hi Chad, lovely day on the farm. Maybe a locked gate at the entrance of your farm could let you keep Olive off leashed? Then when a customer or farm stay car comes over you would know and can keep Olive leashed or in the work shop while cars are coming

    • @elisaa9981

    Have you considered just putting a fence along the road or driveway and just not having a gate? It wouldnt seal off the road from the animals, but it would limit access to it so they could only get on it at certain locations which would make it easier for people to look out for them. I understand that you need to do whatever you need to to heal, and couldnt handle the loss of another animal right now, but I just hate seeing Olive tethered to the cart and not able to be free and enjoy the farm and spend time with you. Also, there are automatic gates that open when they detect a car.

    I can't even begin to imagine the pain and fear you are going through. This coming from a dog trainer... can you use one of those halo collars that teach boundaries? Or an invisible fence? That would allow Olive to be with you but also keep her off the driveway. Keeping you and your wife in my prayers.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much, lot of people suggesting that. I really don’t know anything about them but I do know that the layout of our property is difficult to fence so I’d imagine the same for invisible fences. It would need to have 4 or 5 different zones while still allowing cars in and out. Not even sure I need such a thing though as I’ll explain a lot more in the next video. Olive will still be free most of the time.

      Yes, but it's not just about that, it's about the mental strength to assume what happened. He feels attached to the cats and dogs, I feel attached too like if they were my own cats and dogs because I watch all the videos, and I'll be so sad if one of the cats dissapear too one day, but the truth is that it can happen again to any of them, and you have to be mentally prepared. What happens to Molly is dramatic and super hard, you have to live with it, but watching Olive tied in a leash is heartbreaking.

    Guys listen…. Chad isn't going to Keep Olive tied up all the time! He wouldn’t do that to her! But right now, there are guests at the Farm Stay that are coming and going. While they are there, I understand why he tethered her. When the guests are gone, Olive will run free as always. We trust Chad will do what is best for ALL of his animals on the farm. So, let's trust that includes Olive. I completely understand why he is doing this right now. I don’t blame him for doing it either. Olive is used to having Molly with her and she would most likely go looking for her. Keeping her tethered while the guests are there prevents anything from happening to her as well As keeps her from wondering off by herself to look for Molly. Let's just trust that he knows what is best for Olive and his farm.

      @@HiddenSpringFarm no,problem… I know what you are trying to do… and I don’t blame you one bit… I grew up on our family farm that has been in our family for 8 generations! And it can be dangerous with all of the machinery and equipment… then to add to it in your situation, the extra traffic from guests, it can be a whole other nightmare as we saw with Molly's tragic accident… I have to admit, I did the same thing when I lost one of mine 35 years ago! Oh my dad went ballistic when I put a tie out and hooked up my dog Dakota to it… I told him, it’s just until he gets used to being alone and or I get another dog for him to play with… my dad let Dakota off that tie out when I went into town… when I came home and he was gone, I was furious… I found him a week later in the back pasture… it wasn't pretty :( … my dad apologized over and over and over… I honestly still haven’t forgiven him for that… but I know why you have done what you have done and I agree with you 100%… I also know it’s not permanent too… so, you do what you need to do and just know, you have so much support from so many of us… you guys are loved!

    thank you for the update, i'm sure it hasnt been easy but i'm happy to see you, your darlin, and all your fluffy friends again. in your video you mentioned putting fencing to keep the animals in, but maybe if its possible you could use speed bumpers, or put multiple "slow down" or "20 kmh speed limit" signs along the driveway that guests would use, and maybe put a disclaimer to anyone booking a farm stay to please drive with caution on the farm to ensure the safety of the animals. just a thought, that might be cheaper and easier than all that fencing, and again great to see you all 💜💜

    Hey Chad not trying to be a pest but im not sure i nade myself ckear. Perhaps clear the brush + trees about 6 feet on both sides of the road making it more vusable if any animal is heading tiwards the road on your farm. Such as driving diwn a highway. If everything is cut back a driver has time to brake before hitting a dear etc. Now that you have your neighbor excavator. Also a couple of speed bumpa to force a driver to slow down. And perhaps a contract signed at beginning of stay for guest that require and house/property damage or animals killed will be billed to their credut card. Not trying to sound nean but as you know some people now days dont use commin sense and oyr pets are depending on us to take care of and protect them.

I'm not sure how close the forest wall is to the road, but assume it's also a pebble road? Is there very limited visibility to safely stop if more aware there are roaming cats and olive and to drive very slowly? As they'd come and go as they please and not just upon checkin/checkout, I would hope a very slow speed for just that stretch could be enough.

    supervise your animals at all times if you're not going to be supervising them lock them all up from predator attacks.. land predators and flying predators such as hawks.....

After about a month, he was actually able to turn it off and neither Bear or Deer (yes, that is their names lol) would go anywhere near the boundaries where those fences were… perhaps you could install something like that for Olive and any future furry friends you happen to get… I bet if you were to ask, I and the rest of your viewers would donate to get this for you!

      I have tried cardboard under the geotextile for extra weed killing power. I’ve got a text going on since 2 years. Our blueberries have the geotextile with wood chips on top. The garden has just the geotextile. So far the garden has not had any grass or weeds growing thru but the wood chips in the blueberry patch has a few weeds that grow on the surface thru the wood chips. I believe if it’s just the black fabric with nothing on top you will have no grass or weeds.

      I feel ok crying about it and I can’t even remember the last time I really cried.

      @@HiddenSpringFarm When our OES passed, he was 13+. I couldn’t imagine losing one at 4. They are such special dogs. My 6-year old OES is the greatest dog, too. Give Olive a chance to fill that void a little. You won’t regret it. But keep mourning, there’s nothing wrong with it.
