If you don't mind this old gardener giving you some advice if your going to grow corn prep the space weeks before planting with the poop from your chickens and til it in. That will provide nitrogen , calcium and other micro nutrients to the soil. You should only have to fertilize again when you hill your corn at about 18 inches tall.

For better corn production, try the American Indian method, called the “three sisters”. Meaning, you plant together at each point the corn, but also with squash and beans. The other plants do beneficial complementary things, such as fixate nitrogen, and this helps all of them grow better. The corn's group contribution, to the symbiosis/synergy, is to act as a trellis for the climbing bean vine.

My favorite and most successful garden vegetable was the grape tomatoes, which I planted against a 6 foot fence, and I wired them up real well. They grew up to the top of the fence and up over the top and down the other side to the ground. We had so many delicious tomatoes that year. (SE Missouri). I also found a variegated green and white basil plant at a nursery that I planted in a wooden urn. It grew so nicely and provided us with fresh basil for months. I bet if you pile mulch/woodchips around the pot when winter comes your catnip may start growing again in spring. It's in the mint family and I got it to come back on its own in my manitoba zone 3. Fun plant but careful it can take over if you plant it in a bed or the ground.
