      @zainabagbolade5688 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@farahrahmani6855 Yeah sure! I don't go there (I'm at KCL) but things to focus on would be:
      -Add in the 6Cs whenever you get the chance to add it in.
      -Also read a bit of the NMC code and know the four main areas and add that in too
      -Do some practice questions but don't over prepare or it sounds too rehearsed and doesn't show your personality
      -Try and read the Embrace report and maybe some other research or papers like better births since we cover that a lot and refer to it in papers.
      -Whether its in person or virtual dress well.
      -Don’t be scared to ask them to repeat a question either because they can do that for you.
      -Read over your personal statement since they might ask you something from there, I don't really remember if they did in mine but they may have changed it up
      -Have some water too! Helps you think better
      -Just be yourself too and show your personality. They want to make sure that they're choosing the right person for university not just midwifery as a whole so make sure you personality shines and don't be worried about stuttering or repeating yourself!
      There is a lot there since I tend to waffle on but that's what got me through all of my interviews. Hope this helps!

    • @elliesjourneytomidwifery6142
      @elliesjourneytomidwifery6142  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t actually been in the room when a baby who was stillborn was delivered, as that happened on the shift previous to mine. However, I did have to look after that baby and her family not long after the birth and take her to the morgue as well. It was the most difficult day on placement, and I did have a few tears, although it was so rewarding to care for a family at such a vulnerable and horrible time in their lives. One of the worst parts about it was that once we discharged them to go home, I was immediately looking after a woman who was in labour and I had to put her on the CTG machine to listen to her baby’s heart rate, which I found deep down so difficult because this baby was alive and I had just been caring for one who was not. So yeah a very difficult situation, but there are still things you can take away from it that will benefit your skills too.

      Congratulations on getting an interview! I'd say to prep in advance so that you're not panicking trying to do it all at once in the last few days. I'd say spend a few mins a day going over things and then for the rest of the day just relax and take your mind off the interview. That should help keep your nerves down because you'll feel ready on the day, and you shouldn't be worrying about it too much on the build up to the 14th as well. Hope that helps! Good luck! 🥰

      Hi Fatima! I completely understand its been so tough to get work experience! If you can try in this next year to get experience in antenatal classes for pregnant women, nurseries, caring roles (maybe care home?), things like that? But don't worry because a lot of unis don't require experience anyway, and they know how difficult it has been with covid for people to get experience so don't panic too much! It's just that it would be great if you did manage to get something. Unfortunately I'm really not the best person for the personal statement advice, as I'm not perfect on them, but there's so much help and guides online if that helps? x

    What would you advise for current midwifery news topic for 2021 x

    • @elliesjourneytomidwifery6142
      @elliesjourneytomidwifery6142  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends exactly when you will be having your interview. I would say that big news circulating the media at the moment is the March with Midwives campaign and the awareness that is being raised, although it probably is not the most 'uplifiting' topic to discuss in an interview to become a student midwife! I know there was recently a new guideline around inductions of labour for women in England, and there was a lot of stigma around it because they were trying to get more people from Black, Asian, ethnic miniority groups induced, and at 38 or 39 weeks (I cant remember which to be honest!) as well (which in turn may increase chances of interventions in labour) and NICE decided to alter it. If I'm honest I'm not 100% sure if it would class as current 'news' but it is a topic that has been discussed quite a bit, so maybe? Try and see if there is anything on RCM, NMC or RCOG about it, which might go into a bit of detail. Alternatively, there is the impact covid is having on maternity services, pregnant women suffering with covid who are unvaccinated, etc. You could always look on those sites I mentioned and see the current news articles on there to see if anything catches your eye. I only got asked about current news in 1 of my interviews so I did not prepare as much as I should have! But equally try not to worry about it too much. Even just a few sentences about a topic should be enough really. Hope this helps!

    I’ve got an interview next week and the uni asked me to research a current topic/article to talk about, I’ve looked around but I’m still really unsure of what to talk about. I can’t find much but I’m probably looking in the wrong places. Any tips?

      Maybe have a look at articles on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or the Royal College of Midwifes (RCM), as they usually have good evidence-based articles😊

    I have my interview Wednesday. I’m a HCA and have worked on the ward, I’m a baby friendly volunteer and I’m at college doing my a-levels. Do you think I have a chance? I’m so nervous.

      Hi Mia, the fact that you've been offered an interview already shows that you have a good chance of getting in. With you also being a HCA and a baby friendly volunteer, it means you have an even better chance, I'd say! Just make sure you prep before your interview, be yourself and you should be absolutely fine. Good luck!

    Ive got my interview on Tuesday I’m slightly worried about the lack of reading I’ve done. Do you think that will affect things?

    • @elliesjourneytomidwifery6142
      @elliesjourneytomidwifery6142  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you need to do lots of reading, I didn't do much, but I would imagine the more you look into topics the better it may look. They might not even ask you questions around relevant news etc, but even having an understanding of some recent news in midwifery (even reading 1 or 2 articles from reputable sources like NMC and RCM) would probably be beneficial x

      Hi Jennah, I'm not too sure if the process is different or not, it might be worth looking at the uni's websites and seeing if you meet the entry requirements etc.
      You're very welcome to ask me some questions still though and I will try and answer them as best as I can! 😊

    For the MMIs, can you take some time to think about the questions or do you have to answer quickly?

    • @elliesjourneytomidwifery6142
      @elliesjourneytomidwifery6142  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure when I was in my interview the lady said that I could take my time to answer, but I thought it would sound better answering quite quickly. You'll find that the questions are very long so while the interviewer is reading them out to you, you'll be thinking of your answer throughout. It's definitely easier than you'd think so try not to worry. Just go with a flow and say what your gut tells you and you should be fine😊x

      @@ai7562 I'm not sure if they will ask you MMIs. My interview with Kingston was very different to my interview at West London uni (mainly because WL didn't do MMIs) so it just depends on the uni to be honest. Kingston have always done MMIs by the sounds of it, so it may be worth looking into Greenwich and LSBU to see if they have any tips on midwifery interviews, as this may give you an indication on what to expect? Kingston did a video a few years ago on tips and what to expect, so I'd imagine other unis must do something similar. You'll be fine though! 🥰x

So you have to pay £9250 tuition fees per year (which you will eventually have to pay back), and then you can also get maintenance loan to help with living costs (which you'll also have to pay back.
