Thank you for all of these great ideas and the clear presentation. I’m struggling with an open valve now and will try these all until I find the culprit! I thought it may have been the valve initially, so I replaced it, but I am still having the same problem with that zone not turning off. I’m glad you gave me other ideas to try!
Thank you for the video - I will try this out sometime after the fourth. 1 section of our irrigation will not turn off, and I am having my fingers crossed that it is not the electrical issue.
Turning the flow control knob can help the valve close promptly. This prevents the next valve in sequence from "sticking" open due to low flow or low pressure.
Do you have any idea why it takes over a minute or two for a valve to close after the bleed valve has been closed? Some close immediately. Others not so much.
Hi great video. Is the order of issues shown based on most probable? Also, does hunter make anything to stop the flow of water to any zones stuck open? No master valve is installed.
I recently replaced the top of a hunter pgv valve because it was not opening. Turned out to be corroded wires but since I had it open anyway I replaced the top and solonoid. When I ran it it ran just fine but that station ran with every other station...went in and rewired. Same issues...so....pulled the top off and saw debris in the bowl of the valve. I got out my shop vac and vacuumed the whole line out then reconnected everything. worked! I think debris was holding the valve open or the diaphragm wasnt seated properly...
Debris trapped in a valve body can prevent the diaphragm from fully seating. It can look like just a few heads are operating or it may look like the entire zone is running at a lower flow. Disassemble, inspect, and flush.
i have a partial station that wont shut off. i have a bottle top valve and have replaced the top. this happens even when the power is completely disconnected and only way to shut it off is to turn on another station at which time it comes back on when that station stops. only stops by shutting off the water supply.
A valve that weeps or "leaks", even when the power is off, will need repair or replacing. Look for debris in the valve and if flushing it out doesn't help, there may be damage to the valve that requires a replacement.
My valves are all put together on a dura fitting screw type manifold, I can change out a complete valve in 5 minutes or less. Since time is more expensive than the valve why would i spend half hour to a valve apart and reassemble?
My valves are glued into pvc pipes underground. I would have to spend a day digging up my yard so I can cut the pipes to install new valves. Time being valuable, I can just clean the valve.
Wow that is the best video on the web on how to trouble shoot the valve. Thanks I am going to replace all 6 of my Orbit valves.

Let us know how it works out.
Mine was a solenoid video helped alot thanks.
Great video, very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
6:30 To what/how are you supposed to fine tune a low flow valve? Is the goal to reduce or increase the flow?
Turning the flow control knob can help the valve close promptly. This prevents the next valve in sequence from "sticking" open due to low flow or low pressure.
Thank you very much. My problem was resolved by opening the manual bleed for a few seconds
Perfect! Flushing a valve by using the manual bleed can be a simple, helpful step.

Adjusting the large flow control knob on the top valve can decrease or increase that closing speed.

A master valve can prevent a stuck open valve from continually running so it's something you may consider.

Because you may find out that the valve is broken a Sunday, and the shops selling valves are closed
