Why is A Street In Sierra Leone Named After A Nigerian? Sani Abacha

  • One of the reasons amongst others that I travel Africa is to learn about our histories, cultures and people and to share all that with you. Getting to Sierra Leone, I discovered that there is a street named after late General Sani Abacha, Nigeria's former military head of state who is often not remembered with the fondest of memories by many Nigerians. Here in this video is what I found. Is it a case of 'a prophet has no honour at home? find out.
    What do you think? Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, LIKE and SHARE.
    Sierra Leone is a country on the South-southwest coast of West Africa with a population of over 7 million people. Some of the tribes include Mende, Fullah, Kuru, Krios (the freed slaves who returned to Africa. I'll bring you a video on this).

    Sierra Leone will always be grateful, as nigeria stand by us when the world abandon us. Sani Abacha will always remain a hero. During the war the rebel declared operation no living thing. Sani Abacha teach then a lesson, by flying Nigerias troops to Freetown to save the city, as rebels start burning houses, killing innocent civilians, Nigerians troops fight street to street battle with the rebels in Freetown, until the whole city is freed. Sierra Leoneans will never forget this brotherly role play by Nigeria.

    This is one story that l keep telling Ghanaians and you hear those Ghanaians talking nonsense! Hope they hear this. That was when Nigeria Army was an Army. Fearless soldiers who had the backing of their Commander in Chief. This is one country that Nigeria single handedly brought peace. Another one is Liberia amongst other countries. Ghana's contributions was near to zero! Nigeria bore the burdens. Those two countries will forever be grateful to Abacha government and the people of Nigeria.

    I am glad that Sierra Leone is grateful for its assistance from a sister country, Nigeria, in its time of need. But, unfortunately, this is not always the case with several African countries. There are instances wherein African countries helped by Nigeria have shown outright contempt to Nigerians. Countries like South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe, Namibia are also beneficiaries of Nigeria's support in their times of need. But unfortunately, in some, if not all of these countries, Nigerians are hated. They rather tow the path of the same western countries stereotyping Nigerians without knowing why the stereotyping by these western imperialist nations is because of the part Nigeria played in the struggle against imperialism in Africa.

If not for the Nigerian troops fighting alongside with the Sierra Leonean troops, it would have been very disastrous for Sierra Leone. Sierra Leoneans would also like to extend an appreciation to the British troops that finally ended the eleven year civil war that brought us to our knees economically and otherwise, thank God the country is now breathing a sigh of relief economically.

    The late general (Sani Abacha) certainly had his faults but when he was in charge Nigeria was in a better state than it's currently in. He even did good things for Sierra Leone and Liberia.
    We want to hear more accounts from this distinguished elder , please, not necessarily talking about Nigeria but about Sierra Leone history. Thank you Sista Grace and to the Elder for your time.

      @@Oponu-Ayirada yeah lots of the Yoruba freed slaves, both from Liberia and serrialeon, who remembered that they were of Yoruba descent came back to Yoruba land expecially to Lagos (E.g the Macaulays, the Crowders , the Williams the, Adams etc they became top elites in Yoruba land) during the late 1800S And early 1900S. The vast majority of the Krios are from different other tribes especially the IGBOS and they will tell you point blank. They are very aware of this. Some of their early presidents were from the IGBOS especially those from Liberia. The IGBO krios and Americo Liberians were not able to come over to IGBO land because as at the late 1800S And early 1900S, the IGBOS were not westerly Educated as a Whole as compared to the Yorubas. They was literarily no IGBO scholar who was vast enough to serve as a link between the IGBOS and their long lost Children. But the Yorubas had Samuel Ajayi Crowder and so many other Yoruba graduates from the fourah bay college in serria-leon who were able to creat a link between the Yorubas and their Children.

    Sensible my sister for doing the right thing. Always go to the right and authentic source so you can give accurate information about your country's history. If you chose secondary sources you will get wrong or incomple or adulterated versions. Well done but please write it done to be pass down to future generations. Africans deserve to hear their history being told by Africans.

    The only underappreciated African leader! For me as a Nigeria sani abacha is one of the greatest leaders Africa lost early. He was the only African leader close to Gaddafi, and Mandela also was a friend to Gaddafi. Abacha was against the western atrocities in Nigeria and Africa continent, he started the revolution we wanted in Nigeria but due to tribalism he was not recognized and wasn't supported. He started killing the Nigerians selling us out to westerners, which became a big problems for Nigeria due to tribalism. May his soul rest in peace!! Only Jehovah will judge

      Well said, I was still a child and didn't know much about him but I remember faintly that the Naira was strong, I remember using 1 Naira 50 Kobo to buy snacks at break time in school. Now even even ordinary 'pure water's is 50 Naira or so. Too bad

    Sani Abacha was a great man. Who loved justice. Those who hated him in Nigeria were the greedy thieves, and those who were in favour of injustice.

      I think his loot abroad that refuses to finish disagrees with this comment of yours! I recently read that if all his loot abroad is returned, Nigeria won't need to take loans at this time.

    • @billinuma8078
      @billinuma8078 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LuminousSolitude Does it make sense to you that Oil sold at highest $10 under Abacha. Nigeria fought 3 wars under Abacha, and you claim he looted enough that Nigeria would not need to take loans now if his "loots" are returned? When Oil prices are minimum 3x the price higher than under Abacha, Nigeria has doubled Oil production, and Nigeria has new economic sectors like mining and IT. Please do the calculations and stop being subtile.

      @@africanstoryteller Let those who complained about Abacha compare him with the current President. Abacha had a strong sense of justice and even though Saro-Wiwa had been a friend the misinformation he received on him made him execute him. Even at that, he reviewed the demands of Saro-Wiwa and the other activists a lot of which the "democratic governments" refused to adopt into the new constitution.
