      @victorsam-king1383 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, Sierra Leone and Jamaica have a history because, many Jamaicans are decendants of Sierra Leone slaves, our ancestors. Secondly, the colonial masters and the Krios brought in 100s or more, Jamaican Maroons to help fight the Natives or rather, forcefully hold on to lands that were illegitimately taken whilst grabbing a lot more.
      King Tom and Naimbana were not educated. They did not understand what the Whites and the Krios were trying to do until it was too late. That was why they tried to get their lands back.
      The Jamaica Moroons were also used to fight the Natives further inland.
      Remember Freetown was a small land - cotton tree to krootown road and a little further up government wharf.
      Mendes actually conquered most of Sierra Leone before breaking up and largely retreating to the South/East, for many good reason but also occupied the coastlines together with the Sherbros. That includes the western peninsula and the north/south coastlines and islands.
      The Sherbros were the first to receive the western style of education. They also are guilty of selling many illiterate Mande/Mende people. Many were taken to Jamaica. Jamaica Maroons are decendants of many of those people, our ancestors.

      I agree completely. Back in the days, there were regions and kingdoms, not individual countries as today, so West Africa comprised many of today’s countries such as Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. I have thought and still believe that there are strong similarities between Jamaicans and Nigerians and of course Sierra Leonians as you pointed out.

    • @aframaco9491
      @aframaco9491 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes Mr Pinnock! You are spot on !
      What you are really saying in effect, is that WE ARE ALL INDEED ONE PEOPLE!!!
      Culturally and perhaps even ethnically, the Krio people are probably the most similar to Nigerians on the West African coasts, followed by the English speaking Cameroonians!
      Nigeria has always had a huge population , right back to even before the transatlantic slave trade begun!
      It is fair to summarise that the bulk of Africans captured and sold into slavery came from the south coast of Nigeria!
      And that is why the customs and traditions of the Yoruba, the Kalabari, the Efiks and the Igbos remain predominant and prevalent amongst the various black diasporans in the Caribbean and South America!
      This is also reflected in the numbers of returning freed slaves from Brazil, Jamaica, England and Cuba to West Africa !
      It’s been a merry( unmerry perhaps) go round for us Black people!

      @ Hassan C 😆Somebody wanted to chew my head off! for acknowledging Virtue Grace portfolio of content of Sierra Leone.
      I have scanned their channels
      I think it's a side hobbie at this moment for most of them. They do not see it, as a serious craft, industry or source of revenue.
      Only 1 Sierra Leonean has been monitised! The rest are just throwing camera around uploading footage and calling it content creating.
      Sierra Leone has content for days.
      You have to know, why you have a channel. Know what you want the viewers to experience.
      You have to go online and study the craft of producing content.
      Use your phone, film, edit and upload.
      As you grow, upgraded your filming gears.
      Maybe, Virtue Grace has sparked something for them to know they are sleeping on their money 😄

She has the enthusiasm for making content, but I didn't feel the personality, she is filming and uploading she hasn't figured out how to put it creatively together yet. Wishing her well. I have Sub to her channel.
      At the moment, I think Antoinette is the only Sierra Leonean Utuber, that has figured that out. That's why she is getting the views. When the IGBOS get Biafra, we will give the krios who are directly of IGBO descent free citizenship. I have heard stories from our IGBO brothers and sisters trading in Freetown and they are in very good relationships with the krios. I am also aware that many of our IGBO brothers are married to them. They are our Kit and kin anyways.
    We the IGBOS are fed up of Nigeria..

    People should try to know the history of how these lands where claimed or occupied by the Krios. These lands were occupied under the protection of the British colonial masters from the Natives, who unsuccessfully tried to take back their lands. It was not a genuine acquisition by the Krios and British colonial masters. The British colonial masters favoured the Krios and used them as civil servants of the colony. The Krios were also given relative freedom of land in the colony. The Krios are decendants of our(Mende, Temne, Sherbro etc) slave ancestors. The history is comprehensive. The Sherbros traded a lot of slaves too. The Sherbros were actually the first to come in contact with the European slave masters and the first to receive the conventional European education. I could go on but this is not the right place.

      Do you guys know that Sierra Leone has the highest peak in West Africa? Loma Mountain - Bintumani.
      Sierra Leone the deepest natural harbour in Africa. Some of the largest deposits of this and that. Many large rivers rain forests.
      Check out Tiwai Island, Gola Forrest, Tingi Hills, Loma Mountain.
      Sierra Leone has many inland Lakes - unexplored and undocumented. Most people talk about Sierra Leone with the very narrow scope of Freetown/Western Peninsula. This is a very TINY part of the Sierra Leone coastal landscape.
      Well, economically/Financially Sierra Leone should be a very rich country but we are all frustrated.
