Near Rockport area and south, The Gas Wells or "rigs" as some may call them, usually get full of trout in July. The reason is because the water temperature is obviously hot in July. If you pay attention to how the Wellhead/Production tree is configured on the platform, you will be able to know which side the school favors. The production Wing of the tree is tied into a pipeline. Follow the Piping down into the water. Under the water that piping is buried with shell. If the well is producing gas, the gas is cool and cools the water column around where the pipeline is buried. That is where the school will be. Free hook a shrimp, croaker, or piggy and it will be every cast if they are there. A soft plastic on a 1/4 oz jig head can work too...
Been fishing on boats where the draft of the barge grounded the boat. Zero water. But, as soon as the water rushed back in there were reds on the points within seconds. Happens multiple times.
I’m not familiar with the area you are fishing. Not looking for your go to spot just interested in general area. I fish Shell Beach, Delacroix and a Hopedale on S/E La.

How is that bates reel holding up. I use shimanos but thinking about buying one to see and compare
it's holding up well but I don't like the brakes on it. Doesn't cast as good as many other reels I've used

Justin, how much leader do you use on the popping cork?
