- I first became interested in pocket prairies after attending an annual conference of the Native Prairie Association several years ago. In 2021, I presented an overview of different pocket prairie installations at the homes of six-chapter members.
In this revisit to each site, we will learn how they came to be, what success each had at our first look in 2021, and how things have changed since then. Homeowners using small plots over an acre have each made them space something where pollinators and other wildlife can thrive.
Susan Abernethy is a class of 2018 member. She has served in various outreach and administrative roles, including outreach director and education committee member. She enjoys native plants and birds and has volunteered at Clymer, the Heard, Frisco parks projects, Connemara, and Erwin Park. She is a NPSOT, NPAT, and Audubon member and was recently certified as a Monarch Steward. She maintains Monarch Watch gardens at her home and Pilot Point in Denton County.
