There is something so surreal in hearing the voice of a passed away person send himself off. In a way, Rick May surpassed his physical death, and can even comment on his physical demise. That is because Rick May is immortalized in the character he gave so much life into. This is the philosophical immortality so commonly talked about in literature. This is the immortality so many rulers tried to achieve by trying to be remembered in history. Video games allowed Rick May to live on as Soldier - to be able to, in a way, comment even on his own physical death through the works of others, who have his voice and will continue using it - making Rick May appear in our lives in many, many years to come. They say a man dies twice - first when he takes his last breath, and second when nobody remembers him. Thanks to video games and the sheer effort, life and personality he gave to Soldier that accumulated over these 13 years - Rick May will be alive for a long time yet. He will be alive as the Soldier himself - a shard or a part of his personality that he nurtured for so many years. It is like a mini-him. A son that he raised for 13 years - a legacy he leaves behind that will continue his existence in this world.
Tf2 is amazing. Rick May died. So they stopped fighting, went soldier and saluted the man. In every other game, people would go "F". Here, they went "F with a parade".
And on this day we stand united, Free to plays, Friendlies, Tryhards and everything inbetween. We left all quarrels behind us to mourn a Common Hero Rest in Peace Rick May. May your voice never cease to inspire us and bring Joy to our lifes.

Holy sentences, son
But he's gonnee T-T
Soldier meant it when he said "We're going to Live forever."
If I was as good at writing as you, I would say something similar. But for now, well said son. May he live forever.
It's enough to make a man cry... And that's okay.

I've not played TF2 in years but when I did, it was truly something magical. To this day it is still my most played game at 5k hours, and returning to it to pay my respects to Rick by playing nothing but soldier for an entire night, it was great fun. No one was toxic, we all were grieving for Rick but reminding ourselves why we fell in love with the game at the same time, even as complete strangers on the internet. And even though we lost a soldier, it does bring a genuine smile to my face that we can all come back together like a family to mourn one of the greats.
