Absolutely excellent feature!!! Instead of struggling to play different keys and having to spend hours on the piano roll editing just save the ones that sound good and pad them out. This product is a game changer. Love it!
My akai mpk261 recently got damaged after 10 years and I’m picking this one up tomorrow and I’m definitely excited for this and the scale feature. Big time saver.
Here we're demonstrating features that are part of the Launchkey hardware. The Scale and Chord features can be used with any DAW and also, standalone, with hardware. The Scale and Chord settings selected on the hardware won't be saved within an Ableton Live set or any other DAW.
Keyboard transposition is separate. The Octave +/- buttons can be used to transpose the keyboard up or down eight octaves (C-2 to C5). When working in User Chord Mode, you can use the ▲▼ buttons to transpose the chord bank in semitones between -12 and +12.
When I choose Fixed chord and play a C minor (C, Eb, G) then make sure my scale is on C Minor. When I single press the C key it plays C minor as it should. When I press the E key it plays Eb major (Eb, G, Bb) as it should. But why when I press the B key does it not play a Bb major (Bb, D, F)? Instead it plays a Bb, D G, which is an inversion of the G Minor.
Thanks for your feedback. This sounds like it may be a result of the order that these processes are applied. We'll look into this. If you're happy to raise a ticket with our Support Team about this, we can keep you in the loop via email - bit.ly/NovationSupport
@0:20 I enter a C maj chord with fixed chord. Pressing C plays the C maj chord. The pressing E plays E maj. But transposing the chord should play E min?
That's correct. A fixed C Maj chord (C E G) should then produce an E Min chord if E is played (E G# B). Are you working with any Scale filtering? When entering the C Maj chord, are you entering the notes in the order, C E G? Launchkey considers the first note you input into the chord as the ‘root note’, even if you add notes lower than the first one.
Thanks for your feedback! Scaler is cool and other options exist but the cool thing about Launchkey's Scale and Chord Modes is that it's part of the hardware so it's something that you can use with any DAW and with hardware too, without a computer.
can I reset to factory settings the chords mode? I played around too much without watching a tutorial and the controller is sending chaos to my DAW...I'd like to reset all...is that possible?
Is it possible to create customer user chords and save them for different projects. So if I have different ableton projects that need different set of chords, is there a way to save them with the project so e.g. project 1 loads my custom user chords of Gm, C, F and project 2 loads my custom chords of Am, D, G7?
No, afraid that isn't possible. There isn't a relationship between the user chords created and stored on the hardware and projects/sessions within your DAW.
That can be achieved using Strum Mode. With Strum Mode on, you can hold notes on the keyboard and use the Modulation wheel to play the virtual 'strings' on your chords.
Hello. s far as User Chords... can I save multiple sets of my user chords. Like If I make 5 different User Chord sets can I name each one and call them up at a later time. And if the answer is yes, is there a limit on the amount of User Chords I can save ?
Launchkey can store a maximum of 16 User Chords. In User Chord Mode up to 6 note chords can be assigned to each pad. These chords will be saved to the Launchkey’s internal memory and accessible between power cycles.
Launchkey Mini [Mk3] features only the Fixed Chord Mode shown here. Launchkey 25 [Mk3] features all of the Chord Features shown here - Fixed, User and Scale.
Rest assured, while it may seem daunting at first, working with the 4 Chord Modes soon becomes second nature. Each Chord Mode is accessed from a dedicated, labeled pad and is explained in greater detail in the User Guide, if you encounter any problems - fael-downloads-prod.focusrite.com/customer/prod/downloads/Launchkey%20MK3%20User%20Guide%20v6%20-%20EN.pdf

I have purchased some of the scale plugins to help with this but this is so much easier. Very happy with my purchase of the 61key thank you
Great to hear!

Thank You! Great Tutorial. Looking forward to more Novation Launchkey Video Tutorial.
I want to be able to store even more user chords.
That user chord mode is a game changer! Which I why I added this product to my cart !🔥🔥🔥
Been waiting for this feature for years!!
Are these saved in the Ableton project, or just the Launchkey itself?

Wonderful video thank you... just a question: If I'm in chord mode how do i switch it off so that i can go back to using my pads for the DAW? Thanks.
Holding 'Shift' you can quickly use the Pads to determine how they function, selecting from, Session, Drum, Scale Chord and User Chord.
Will the transpose the keyboard by semi-tones feature also transpose the user chords by the same number of semi-tones when the user chords are played?

For complex different chord modes,Scaler 2.8 vst is the best choise.

Is there a way to change pads 5-8 in scale chord mode to be in the root position and not inversions?
That isn't something that can currently be changed but User Chord Mode can be used to create your own palette of custom chords.
can I reset to factory settings the chords mode? I played around too much without watching a tutorial and the controller is sending chaos to my DAW...I'd like to reset all...is that possible?
Hi there! There are a couple ways to do this and it depends on some of your other settings. Please reach out to bit.ly/NovationSupport so we can help.

Cool vid ! Is there a way to make the chords roll ? ...Not play all the notes at the same time

@@NovationHelp The future is finally here 🙂
Easily the best mid range controller because of these different chord and scale modes.
