  • Meet Frederik & Helene!
Together with their 3 kids they have decided to say goodbye to their apartment in the city, and move out in the forest where they have started a house-sharing community. They now live together with 5 other families with whom they share not only the kitchen, but also the burdens of cleaning, and cooking everyday. This way they have more time for each other, they have extra time to be with their kids, enjoy the moment, and live life to its fullest.

It is great that they are willing to try living this way. I would love to hear more about their reasoning as to why they were searching for properties like this. His statement that resonated with me most was that you can always make more money but you can't get more time. It reminded me of my favorite book, "Your Money or Your Life" by Vicki Robin. We only have a finite number of minutes on this earth and we need to decide how we want to spend the time we are here. Thank you for sharing this Maria.

I know that's what stuck with me too, it's so true and powerful. Glad you reminded me of that book, have to remember to read it, it's been on my list for ever:) Hope you are having a great week:)

This is very similar to what I have dreamed of living when I was a teen ( in the 1970s), yet I never did it. I never met anyone else whom wished to live this intentional & simple communal lifestyle & I just kept going working multiple jobs ("human services" work) to attempt to "keep up" as a solo parent. Perhaps I can be semi-retired and live a life I have longed for since I was young. The idea to live in a community actually began when I was 9 years of age.

I think it's totally possible, never stop dreaming:) So many families with young kids actually long for people who are ahead of them to help with kids and ask for advise, definitely possible at any age:) Maria

I have always felt since I was a young teen that I would someday be living in a communal living environment. I am now manifesting that dream. I believe many people want to come together and live a simple life where we are all connected and living off the land. If others are also looking please contact me at sundancerlovesreiki@gmail.com Wishing everyone much love and happiness 💜

Not having time was normal for me, since I was a teenager. It was a little better during university but I thought it was normal to never have time again. But I want to reclaim it back! Thanks for the inspiration

Came to see what is so fascinating about living with a bunch of people. I never even liked going on a holiday with another person - always different schedules and waiting for them to be ready. My ideal is what I have now: retired, financially secure, own lots of property in a remote place so have all the time in the world to do things I like. Selfish maybe, but I've done my time with looking after others (husband, kids, then parents) so now it is my time to pamper myself. I'm also a little picky with meals that others cook, so that is not something I would enjoy. My last gripe is that I generally do more than my share while others sit around and watch me work, so it is much less work for me to only look after myself. Each person has to find what works for them.

Thank you for sharing your home with us. I would love to create a small sustainable Ecovillage community of just a few families, but land where I live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States is prohibitively expensive. It is wonderful that your children have an opportunity to live that life. I wish it was accessible for more folks.

Looks like a adream home and the man is so lovable and caring. Wish there were a bit more insight into the multi-family cohabitation. Where is everybody else? That was why I visited here. In my opinion communal life is practically the only solution for any meaningful future. Wish you God speed. And lots of patience and tolerance.

I’m curious how baking is complicated in the kitchen, since you all cook in there all the time. I would think you’d bake just as much or more now, since you have more people to share baked goods with.

I am wondering why you are the only family with kids? Do the other couples plan to bring kids into the community? -- Adding :: I guess I would like more info on where they live, I was checking your page for more details and realized this is a video about others. :-) -- How big is the house, how big is the land, are they all wealthy (they have food delivered), and things that affect a living situation. -- The 6 families are really one family and five couples... what was the plan for choosing these participants?

Sounds great, but i dunno how good the air quality would be in a house that old. My mom got copd from living in an old farm house 😞

Thank you for sharing your journey with us. It has been a pleasure to watch and learn. However, there are a few concerns and questions, if I may.
    1) We are social beings and although some time away in solitude is good, long term isolation takes a tole on our mental health.
    2) We don't always have to run away from problems, but taking a step back and finding solutions may be a better alternative.
With those two things said, I have a possible solution: start small, non-profit, eco-friendly, sustainable, off-grid, permaculture farming villages surrounding each city. Here are a few great examples:
    1) th-cam.com/video/iCGXVk-cBVk/w-d-xo.html
    2) th-cam.com/video/gfCcI6_1iiA/w-d-xo.html
    3) th-cam.com/video/fWYcsfnHfIU/w-d-xo.html
The village's mission and primary objective is to provide for the poor and vulnerable within the city with food, jobs and environmental education thereby, reducing crime. The villages will offer temporary (no more than one year) housing and work for the homeless and food security for the city.
The first step in this project would be to organize a few people interested in it. Then present the plan to the city for approval. There is a lot of govt funding and support for projects like this.
I have additional ideas on how to get started and operate the farms, if you are interested.
Now is the time to get started before the commercial farms use up all the water again
