    I'm new to fishing, I've watched about 15 hours of 'tips' videos so far on youtube. This was by far the most descriptive on casting and reeling I've seen! Thank you so much!

    I've been seriously fishing since I was 12 years old and I'm now 57, having grown up on a river in Florida and then fishing wherever I was stationed at as an adult (just so readers know where I'm coming from). There's one other type of bite on a soft bait I've experienced every once in a while. That is, the bass will inhale the bait and start swimming TOWARD you. It only happens once in a while but if you're watching your line it can mean the difference between catching a nice bass and losing one. As he swims toward you, do the best you can to keep the slack out of your line. Eventually, he (or she) will veer to one side or the other and when that happens, set your hook hard. Every time this kind of bite has happened to me, it has been a relatively large (to me) bass, 3 or more pounds. One was the largest I've ever caught, over 8 pounds here in Michigan. As a kid, I saltwater fished almost exclusively, since I lived on the Banana River. I sure wished I had known about small and large mouth bass, then, though. Now I've been bass fishing here in Michigan for about 16 years. Also spent a total of about 14 years trout fishing in Washington and Colorado.

    Awesome advice! My whole life I have not been a fan of worm fishing, never had much luck.Come to find out I was fishing the worm to fast. I tried the dragging technique tonight, I caught 5 fish in 30 mins, one of which was my new personal best! 8 pounder on eagle mountain lake in Texas! On a Texas rigged zoom bait. Best evening of fishing I have had in a while.

    Scott Martin I'm trying to catch large mouth and this has been explained to me by several bass fisherman but it was not until I just watched your video that I finally got that moment of crystal clarity. Thank you for this great , very informative video. You gotta creep the worm along by moving the rod and only real in to remove the slack in the line and repeat. You are a great teacher.

    Thanks for posting the video, It's amazing that something so simple as "fish the worm along the bottom" can be so easily overlooked. I subscribed to your channel and I know I'm going to learn a lot from you. I live in the south where Bass is what makes up most of the freshwater fish, and most of the water is very grassy (Lilly pads, grass growing in the water, etc.) so its great to know a channel that tells you how to fish that kind of water for that kind of fish. Once again thank you, and I hope you keep making videos for a long time.

    For the past 2 months I have been watching videos about how to fish etc. Well I have only caught 2 bass(shore)vs my mother in-law 6 using this dragging technique that I would constantly be telling her that her line was going to get caught. I now see why I have been getting a beating. She had never fished before. This works

    thats how ive fished it since a kid its also great for people fishing off the back of the boat as he trolls through cover u barely flick it and map out the cover with the input from your rod and then as soon as u feel it break out from the grass flick a little bass love seeing something flash just outside of structure because it looks vulnerable and its instinctual to strike then.

    This is a great technique. He is right on about not being able to fish it too slow. I've found rubber worms work great in any water color/condition but are best after rainstorms and/or when the water is cooler. Can't go wrong with the Zoom Trick Worm in Green Pumpkin color. Texas rig it up and fish away.

    Very helpful tip on fishing a plastic worm with the rod tip advice, however I have also found at times in shallow weedy sections of a lake a weightless worm thrown into pockets without any action or swimming across pockets produces lots of fish under these circumstances. I've been fishing for almost a year now, and all i can seem to catch them on is crankbaits. im realllyyy tryin to get into using softbaits. my number one question is what does it feel like when a fish bites a worm or creature bait? with crankbaits you usually feel the fish slam it but, how do you know when to hookset with a soft plastic? sorry if my question seems a little dumb.

    • @AR-gi8wl
      @AR-gi8wl 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      basslines18 When you feel a fish bite a plastic is always different. Its just one of those things that you learn. just stick with a plastic for a while and you will get used to it cause i used to be in the same situation. hope it helps and goodluck

    • @bantoldude
      @bantoldude 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      basslines18 it takes a while to recognize or feel the bite.. some cases you won't even feel it and just see your line moving when the fish swims away with it.. it usually feels like someone took a stick and started tapping at your line.. you'll feel it more specially when you have a medium fast action graphite rod (in my opinion)

      i have a resevoir behind my house that I fish at least 4 times a week, and I've been using soft plastics lately. whether it be from a fish taking line or the tiny thump on the line, i know exactly when to set the hook now. thanks.

    Virtually every big bass I have caught has been taken on a plastic worm. I get lots of fish on swim baits and frogs but all of the biggest have been on worms. I fish in Rhode Island where it takes a long time for a fish to grow to 6 - 8 lbs. I also fish in very clear water with high visibility. Natural worms are great all year long, but you have to have patience and fish them very slowly. They often hit on the way down if flipped wacky rigged but Texas rigged and drop shot worms are constant producers.

  • @GainingDespair

    Solid believer in the weightless worm 90% of the time. If needed I have some very minor weighted worm hooks.
    Some stuff likes to float, some likes to slowly sink (my favorite) and some lakes are just to deep to fish a weightless worm.
    We have a dam about 40 miles away. In the middle of no where. Talking northern part of North Dakota. No trees, no bushes, just relatively flat land with the occasional small valley.
    The dam is in the middle of no where can't see it from the highway can't even see the water but if you go down this random dirt road there is the dam (Black Tail).
    Water is 45 foot deep, virtually a drop off after 5 foot strait down. No current on the side I fish but that 70 degree angle. Almost impossible to get any top water bite.
    There is the occasional channel with 4-5 water and cattails.....
    Just fish it weightless and if you can't use the smallest possible weight you need to fall.

    If you are lifting the rod tip up, then how are you dragging it along the bottom? Whenever I lift my rod tip I always elevate the worm in the water column. It always comes up.

    I'm moving from the backwoods of Kentucky to an island off the coast of East Africa in a month. The coastline is predominantly sand beaches with a few areas here and there of rocky coves. Can anyone recommend a good channel to learn the basics of saltwater fishing and the lures used for ocean fishing from the shoreline? Im going from bass and catfish to fishing in the ocean and I am totally lost and would like to learn as much as possible before I get there. I won't be fishing from a boat at all so channels discussing deep sea fishing from the charter boats won't help me much. I will be fishing strictly from the shore. Thanks!
