A main part was left out in that Neel Madhav story, when the king found out the wood in the sea he tried to get that log out and use it for the idol, but he or anyone could not take it out. It was only when one people of each caste (Brahmin, Kshatriya,Vaishya and Shudra) came together, they were able to bring that log in the temple, which symbolises that all the castes have equal rights to worship Jagannath and visit this temple.

Hi Local from puri here - As he said, the idols change every 8,10 or 12 years. But do you know that the new idols are made from which logs ? Every time the idol has to change , a team of priests go to sleep in a far temple of a goddess for some days. 1 of the day is when the whole team dream about the possible location of the new tree from which they have to cut and make the idols again. The goddess of the temple guides this team and leave them with many hints about the direction in which they have to start. These are very specific dreams btw and these trees also have very specific marks. Log selection : The tree chosen for the log must meet certain conditions, such as being dark or dark-red in color, having a straight trunk, and growing near a river or pond, must have a shiva temple in the east and also a funeral ground on the west. Even each log choosen is unique for each 3 Idol - The log for each idol has specific characteristics, such as the number of branches and the markings on the tree: Jagannath: The tree should have four main branches, dark bark, a conch mark and a chakra mark, and be nearest to the cremation ground and you also must have an anthill. Balabhadra: The tree should have seven branches, light-brown or white bark, a plow and pestle marking, and be near a heritage site and graveyard. Subhadra: The tree should have five branches, yellowish bark, and a lotus flower mark. Once all such signs are identify, and I mean each of the mark has to be there, only then the trees are cut. Also the old idols are actually buried and the priest of the temple have to perform roles as the family members of the gods. So they have to follow the death ceremony as they would for their own family. Hence, no eating meat, have to cut hair and nails, have to wear white for 13 days. Once that is done, only then this new idols are to be placed for new worship. After this the mysterious object is replaced. Tiny bit of information. As mentioned, the Idols are bought in public outside the temple. It's called the Jagarnath yatra. Because of the energy of the temple and the idols it's not the best idea for every one to go in for a casual visit. So lord Jagannath comes out to be with the people. Here's the shock, it's said that a Muslim man wanted to do something and go into the temple to see and pray to Jagannath himself, entry of non-hindu devotees was banned due to several attacks on the temple. This man who was a practicing Islamic Muslim died on the path to the temple. So every time the Lord Jagannath comes out of the temple. The journey is paused for a few minutes at the place where this gentleman is said to have left his body. Sounds awkward to the world but Krishna (Jagarnath) is areligous and he meets all his devotees as a friend in the same form they worship him.

Tiny bit of information. As mentioned, the Idols are bought in public outside the temple. It's called the Jagarnath yatra. Because of the energy of the temple and the idols it's not the best idea for every one to go in for a casual visit.
So lord Jagannath comes out to be with the people.
Here's the shock, it's said that a Muslim man wanted to do something and go into the temple to see and pray to Jagannath himself, entry of non-hindu devotees was banned due to several attacks on the temple. This man who was a practicing Islamic Muslim died on the path to the temple.
So every time the Lord Jagannath comes out of the temple. The journey is paused for a few minutes at the place where this gentleman is said to have left his body.
Sounds awkward to the world but Krishna (Jagarnath) is areligous and he meets all his devotees as a friend in the same form they worship him.

As someone who lives near the Puri temple, I can say that half of the facts presented in this video are false and it's filled with misinformation. A lot of the facts said are inaccurate. I'll try to find and attach a video that represents the facts more accurately or as said by the locals. The Brhama Padarth is not Sri Krishna's heart, it's His Naval that didn't burn during performing His last rites.
