    So if i understand correctly, if i have some hue bulps but not the bridge, then a google home hub, or other thread controller can act as a bridge for the bulps?

  • @dimorahon

    I have philips hue bridge that support matter and connected tp router, then when i add a smart bulb light that has been support matter but google home/smarthings said that i have to get one google nest or smarthing hub ? The one common thing I've seen is people hoping Matter will allow them to play music on different smart speakers, but sadly, this is not the case. Matter has no impact whatsoever on smart home speakers. So the rules around AirPlay 2 and Chromecast still applies, even if speakers are upgraded to Matter. - Josh

  • @ScottRobertson4523

    Good explanation but it still doesn't explain how to setup Matter. I really feel like Matter is just one big joke because I don't know how it can be leveraged if there is no interface. Essentially you hook up your devices the same way you usually hook it up aaaaaand... now that is a matter device? lol And talking about our devices already acting as a bridge but a bridge to what? Is Matter just a philosophy and wishful thinking since there is no interface? Genuinely asking because I've been searching how to set this up because I have about 60 smart home devices and don't understand how to get access to Matter and leverage it. Any help or resources is welcomed

    • @6MonthsLater
      @6MonthsLater  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Essentially, the whole point of matter is you're not supposed to have to set it up. Your existing smart home devices should just upgrade to it (if they can). Remember, it's a standard, it's like email, HTTPS, Bluetooth, etc, it's an underlying technology that allows devices to communicate with each other. The problem with Matter right now is it hasn't rolled out to everything yet. When it does, in theory, you'll be able to control more smart devices in your existing smart home platforms (Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Homey, Home Assistant, Samsung Smart Things etc.) So for example, my Nest Doorbell should show up in my Apple Home app when both the Nest Doorbell and Apple Home platform both support matter. Hope that makes sense! - Josh

    • @ScottRobertson4523
      @ScottRobertson4523 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@6MonthsLater got it. I found more material to better understand it's utility. However, I think a crucial aspect to note for the current setup of Matter is the hub device that can connect other IR and Bluetooth devices to allow them to communicate cross-functionally to apple, Google, and Amazon. I've been looking into switchbot hub 2 to get me started but one thing Matter is lacking is security cam compatibility. Learning more and I do like the idea but it's so niche that it's going to be at least 5 years away from the general population to adopt it. It's a very confusing product that everyone seems to struggle to explain to someone that doesn't know it

    Is up to 250 devices really future proof? If some day every appliance, socket, lamp and sensor becomes thread enabled, that pool gets quickly exhausted for mederately sized homes.

    • @majorpat8866
      @majorpat8866 ปีที่แล้ว

      250 are per Network if you want more you just need another Network

  • @CTZN1

    I don't understand why people need hubs? I'm using wifi connected smart devices, just slap 1 wifi router at home and done. What's benefit using hubs?

    • @shichu35

      Cuz it can fix automatical working.if u haven't a hub ,only use devices manually via network.

    Thank you for the video, but you are wrong about Thread. Yes, in theory all Thread Devices could form single network, but in reality Google and Apple had created two separate networks in my home and I am unaware of any simple way of merging them.

      It’s a bit complicated looking at multiple platforms, but it’s fairly straightforward. If you use apple home, you can now use any matter compatible bulb or plug (no need for home kit). You just need a matter controller and router like a homepod.

      Well, it's about a smart home, so, yeah. People can jump through all kinds of hoops so that in the end they can pick a lamp in the menu instead of flipping the switch on the wall.

    As of now (02/24) matter is still shit and as it is over wifi or over thread, its still the same wave length with all the negative properties it holds. Matter is a dead born standard. Well of course, its american.

      I am disgusted by “thread” the devices are expensive and do not even work properly, bluetooth low energy was basically stalling for time and making some money because wow now you can do it with your phone. They say that “thread” secure but is it really plus not many devices can support so much IoT devices that don’t work as they should Z-wave is by far the most secure and reliable out of them all every z-wave device continued working after they upgraded smartthings and they are all just interoperable z-wave more than zigbee but what about the phillips hue tap button that doesn’t require batteries
