I just have to let you know how great your videos are, your comments and stories are so interesting. As a retired man who doesn’t get too far away from home and with my 75 inch TV I find myself watching you cruise the different parts of the world on the venture. Better than a movie. So don’t stop making this your trips and posting them. Thank so much for sharing. EJ

Thank you Tony for this short autobiography of your apprentice years. I too was an engineering apprentice in the 1950's, this was a time when you could buy an Austin 7 for a fiver! I wish now that I had bought several and locked them away for a few years.

Tony, it is interesting that you worked for DeHavilland. Being an American, I know that DeHavilland, specifically Geoffory DeHavilland, was a forward looking company and individual. The work done on the Comet still works in the industry today. That must have been an amazing time in your life, at least in retrospect.
I wish that we had Apprenticeship programs like the one you started at 17 in this country. We certainly could use something like that.
As to your car, what an amazing journey it has been through. You should be, most likely are, very proud of it, and rightly so.
All of this explains why Fleming Yachts are top tier in their class.

My father-in-law was an Aeronautical Engineer, 75 yrs ago, and worked for Howard Hughes, who my husband was named after. My husband was an acoustical engineer who out of necessity branched into audio/video.
Tho dearly loved, would not trust either in a row boat!
    Again, breathtaking footage.
It is stunning even in a downpour. And you are SO safe, warm and secure on Venture II.

I have a story.. i had heard from a man aka Michael Savage " Weiner" he had a Grand Banks i was so enamored of his discription of the twine diesel engines, on the last day of the Fort Lauderdale Fl boat show. I drove down to see only that boat. Then i find Tony who desired to design a better cruiseing vessel!!! Then i got to travel along with the best narrator on the awsome Fleming to beautiful places all around the world !! Thank you Tony!!!

Fascinating Tony, the De Havilland building facing on to the "old" A1 dirt road was a wonderful art deco looking frontage which is no longer there.
I remember from the early 1970's some of the apprentices from there went to to Welwyn Garden City to do their ONC's cannot remember if that was called De Havilland College back then? We went to Hatfield Polytechnic (Now University) to do HNC's/HND's and degrees. The chaps coming out of De Havilland were always excellent mechanical engineers and most of the crowd I knew worked up at British Aerospace in Stevenage and more interested in Electronics. I remember my Dad went to some of the open days at De Havilland and I regret not going to any of those.
Wonderful overview of your time at De Havilland and brought back some nice memories for me.
    Thank you.

I am pleased that the video brought back memories. I am a stong supporter of the apprenticeship system and it's really a shame it has fallen by the wayside. Many of the best apprentices were snapped up by USA aerospace companies at vastly enhanced salaries.
