  • It was getting hard to drive my 2004 Toyota Solara at night since the headlamps were so foggy. The headlight bulbs were new but the plastic lenses had gotten very dirty and fogged up over the part 17 years. The lighting from the headlights was terrible and it made it hard to drive at night.

    I bought the Sylvania Headlight Restoration Kit on Amazon and used it to clean and restore my foggy headlights. Watch the video to see how the process worked, how long it took me and what I think about the results. The cost of the kit was $19.99 on Amazon.

    I used this on my son's 2007 CR-V and it came out fantastic. 2 things though: The blue pad for the clearcoat applicator is tricky to get just the right amount of clearcoat on and you must NOT go back to touch up. I has to be one and done or you will not have perfect results. The other thing is, be careful not to get the clearcoat on the bumper. It's a bear to get off if you do. And lastly (that makes 3), use plenty water while sanding. I kept a hose near to rinse about every 15 seconds.

      Yes, excellent advice. I watched a few TH-cam videos and also read the instructions very, very carefully. I was impressed with the results.

      I should have! Sadly the car needed a lot of work and we sold it to pick your part yard a few years ago. The headlight cleaner worked great.

    To protect the car paint during sanding open hood, tape off rest.

      Yes, yes, yes!! very true, thank you. Truth be told, this car had mechanical problems and we knew we were giving it up soon so I didn't bother with that.

    I originally used the 3M kit with all the sanding, and compound polishing. The results were about where you were before using the rest of the surface activator, UV protector, and shine. Amazon sells those two together in a kit so I will use it to see if I get the same results as you. Thanks for your video.

      Yes, this kit has all that in one, including the sanding and polishing. I was very impressed with the results, well worth the money. Before I did it, you could barely see the headlights at night, it was a dramatic improvement.

      Yes and you can't believe how much better they worked. It's my girlfriend's car and I drove it one night and couldn't see anything, that's what inspired me to do this. Huge difference driving at night after cleaning them.

    Hi Freddy! Did the UV coating hold up? im just wondering how long did it last before the haze and yellowing oxidation returned? thanks in advanced. Im looking for a kit to do my car headlights. cant decide between this or 3m ultra one

    • @FreddySherman
      @FreddySherman  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It lasted longer than the car. The suspension went so we sold the car to a recycler. But the headlights remained clear for a year before we sold it. I was very pleased it was definitely worth the money for the kid. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!

    I am about to use this on my Mustang headlights this weekend but lost my instructions, is it 5 minutes per each sand paper and also I have noticed some people have said the 400 sandpaper scratched their headlights, not sure if its worth skipping the 400 and just using the 1000 and 2000, any advice would be appreciated! Thanks for posting 👍

    • @FreddySherman
      @FreddySherman  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Go to the company website that made the kit, they will have instructions online and it's best to follow their exact directions.
      I would also follow their directions about the different grit papers to use. If it says use 400, I do think you should use it. Also I believe if you use 400 then 1000 and 2000, the higher numbers polish out anything used before like the 400.
      THanks for watching, good luck, let me know how it goes and please subscribe!

      @@FreddySherman Just to update, I finally got a chance to restore my headlights, everything went smoothly at first, I used the activator then 400 grit for 5 mins, did each headlight at same time, did the 1000/2000 compound then activator then washed dried them off then did the last step with the clear coat and boy was that difficult to use, I did the first headlight but there is small streaks, the second light I literally messed it up with overlapping streaks, I think it's the blue towel and I just felt uneasy using it for fear of messing it up, I redid the whole steps I had enough left, it looks decent but overall the last step was a bit of a nightmare to be honest, I feel I need to redo them both at a later date though, thank you for your help :)
