  • In this video, I go over all the tools and materials that you need for using UV curing adhesives.
    Materials and Tools:
    - UV Curing Adhesive Loctite - amzn.to/2ZL9FjR - This adhesive is super clear, strong and retains some flexibility when cured. It blends in well with the resin as long as it is fully cured (cure the surface underwater)
    - 365nm UV Flashlight with Rechargeable Battery - amzn.to/33DYudJ - This flashlight is powerful and works really well to cure the UV adhesive that is sensitive to 365nm UV
    - UV Protective Glasses - amzn.to/3kutOTg - It's important to wear some good quality UV glasses when doing this work.
    - Nitrile Rubber Gloves - - 6 mil is a good thickness. Thick enough to be durable, but still retain tactile feel.
Other Materials That I Use In Conjunction With UV Resin:

    - Alumilite Clear Slow (32 ounces) - amzn.to/3c5HDo4 - Used to make the rods
    - Alumilite Clear Slow (2 Gallons) - amzn.to/2HbHeFe - Used to make the rods
    - Straws for casting the resin rods - amzn.to/3kqYuEH - Straws must be hollow and have a thin wall that can easily be cut and peeled off
    - Skulls - Cast or 3D Printed
    - Popsicle Sticks for holding onto resin rod - amzn.to/3ks3062
    - EPDM o rings to hold the popsicle sticks together - amzn.to/32DaCfG
    - The silicone (baking) mat that I use as a work surface is easy to clean: amzn.to/2PHSZnS - A video about that: • Non-Stick epoxy glue w...
    - I use silicone cups for extra adhesive or for temporarily storing any tools that come into contact with the adhesive: amzn.to/30Jqw7g The adhesive can either be reused or cured and then easily peeled off the silicone.
UV curing adhesives offer many advantages over traditional adhesives. I like to use them because of the control I have over the curing time, and the clarity.

does it get yellow over time? did you try the 4311 loctite glue?

I have not noticed the UV adhesive yellowing over time. I have noticed that the Alumilite resin does yellow over time and have therefore switched to a different resin.

    Heloooooo - Hola!!
    Please help!
I do have an “arch” type of Uv lamp. Uv adhesive don’t have but can order whatever you recommend. What I desperately need to find is a glue that can actually make a metal drawer knob hardware (base for the drawer knob) bond strong to an ornament that goes on top. I make these ornaments out of stone, glass, wood etc. I have tried anything available but too often when you pull trying to open a heavy drawer, the ornament will come off. Do you think this UV glue could do the trick? What brand would you recommend?
I thank you so very much in advance.
    Muchas gracias 😊 😊

I don't think UV adhesive will be any stronger than a good epoxy. Also, the UV adhesive will only cure where light can reach it. Try West Systems epoxy.

Does loca uv glue works better with 365nm or 395nm?

    • @engineerable
      @engineerable  ปีที่แล้ว +1

You need 365nm. It won't cure with 395nm, don't ask me how I know that 😂. Here's the spec sheet tds.henkel.com/tds5/Studio/ShowPDF/243%20NEW-EN?pid=AA%20349&format=MTR&subformat=REAC&language=EN&plant=WERCS

Does the glue show under uv light

    • @engineerable

Yes, there is a light glow under UV light, as you can see in this video: th-cam.com/video/gE9KcyEC_ug/w-d-xo.html

All the links of where to buy are in the description, but here they are again:
      - UV Curing Adhesive Loctite - amzn.to/2ZL9FjR - This adhesive is super clear, strong and retains some flexibility when cured. It blends in well with the resin as long as it is fully cured (cure the surface underwater)

If you are asking if it glows under UV once cured, yes it will glow the same after being cured. The UV light needs to be very strong for it to glow, like the flashlight used to cure.

@@engineerable Thank you! That’s what I was asking if under UV light will it still glow? My second question is if you rub your hand against it can you feel something is there or not?

FYI 365nm UV is safe to work without any glasses, shorter than that no.
Huh, curing underwater is a thing, the more you know.

Thanks, but rather not risk our eyesight. It is still a very intense LED and you can't see it.

@@engineerable 365nm is UVA, in essence black light, makes things glow.
Huh, just checked the standards, per IEC62471, power limits for 400-315nm are 10W per square meter for 1k seconds, or 1W/sqcm/1s, 3W UV LED will squeeze out roughly 400mW of light on a good day, in other words good for 2.5 seconds if applied directly to eyeball, when looked at from 30cm - doesn't matter. UVC on the other hand is 6mW/sqcm/1s, so very dangerous.
